Loco, yo siempre he pensado que las raíces del español chileno vienen del español de "huaso", todos los dichos son con animales, por lo mismo, son de campo, ademas si te fijas, el acento tipico de campo es subirle sutilmente el tono al final de las palabras, IGUAL que el ingles del norte de irlanda jajajaja :D
La pronunciación y terminaciones del español de Chile vienen de Andalucía, España...eso está comprobado, la mayor cantidad de inmigrantes españoles llegaron de esa región y están muy influenciados por la forma de hablar de los gitanos españoles; pero el acento, la tonalidad que tenemos es similar además al de las islas Canarias. El vocabulario de animales que mencionas tu es otra cosa, es simple jerga o slang de nuestro territorio, aunque posiblemente esté influenciado por los huasos.
@ Siempre he pensado lo mismo, pero me dí cuenta por la entonación. El acento "huaso", con esa pronunciación acentuada y subida de tono al final de las palabras y las frases, es idéntico al cacareo de una gallina ( como imita el americano en el minuto 12:25 ). ¿Sería una confirmación para nuestra teoría?. Yo pienso que a futuro el chileno no necesitara entre ellos utilizar palabras para entenderse , lo haran telepaticamente ya que solo ellos se entienden con poco vocabulario.
Chilean Spanish is so difficult to understand, for other people who speak Spanish, who are from other countries where Spanish is spoken, as it is so difficult to understand Scottish English, for other people who speak English from other English-speaking countries . But it is a challenge.
Echar la yegua doesn't mean throw the jaguar. It's lie down the horse (yegua is female horse). And COA it's really much much more incomprehensible that simply adding "i" at the end of the words. COA is how people speak in jail even for Chileans is difficult to understand.
In filipino culture theu use word "po" at end of every sentence too but its usually only when talking to an elder a was a sign of respect kinda like saying "sir" or "mam" i find it very interesting how Chileans do it and if their is any connection between Chile and Philippines both using it but differently?
Here in Chile the "po" es "pues" Example:person 1: vamos a comer algo po Person 2:sipo. Is not a sign of respect. We use it to give emphasis in a conversation, because the phrase enought the "po" sounds so cutted and 0 emotion. Sorry for my bad english hahahs:(xD
Chileans use "po" in an informal way of spanish, if you're want to speak in formal way you really do without "po" and use "pues". Peruvians use "pe" in an informal spanish too. That's the reason. Argentinians use "che" in the beginning of the sentence, in an informal way, I don't know where it comes. The aspiration of the final S is similar in other spanish speakers.
Apart from having a typical dialect, in Chile the speaking differences are strongly related to the social class that the individual comes from...for example, the ghetto people, the poorer people have a very recognizable way of speaking (Like Ebonics in the States), otherwise the people from the upper class have another , its very easy to determine your social class by the way you speak.
I get ur point, but the way you speak doesnt always have something to do with your social class, maybe some people just choose to speak that way. You could be Bill Gates filthy rich and use all the slang and the Ebonics from the urban dictionary.

For the record the “po” is a way to remark or make emphasis on what we say, also is more commonly used by kids and/or some specific geographic locations, here we usually change some words and/ or meanings depending on your geographic location for example in the south we don’t usually use the “po” or we call hotdogs “5 minutos” or “alemanas” (5 minutes/ Germans) instead in the north they call them “vienesas” or “salchichas” (a type of sausage/ straight up hotdog) the slang and word changing we use is ruled by the the cultural difference we have, in the south we had a lot of European influence because of emigration, and in the north they have a lot of influence of the natives, even thought there is some native influence in the south is on a very specific and small percentage of the population in the south, we as Chileans are able to easily recognize if someone is from the south or from the north

Creo que a estos misioneros los mandan a barrios bastante marginales, el lenguaje coa o flaite es propio de gente con bastante baja o sencillamente sin educación, pandilleros y gente salida de las carceles. Es cierto que hay muchísimos slangs y palabras diferentes como en todos los países, pero por la forma que dicen las cosas se nota que no se encontraban en muy buenos lugares de Chile. El castellano que se habla en Chile es igual que en otros países latinoamericanos solo con diferentes modismos o ritmo al hablar. Soy chilena, vivo en USA hace 17 años y nunca tuve problemas para que me entendieran gente de Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Españoles etc etc o cualquiera que hable el castellano acá y que uno se pueda encontrar.

well, you are talking about colloquial language, and above all the variant spoken by the poor in the cities, because formal spanish is not that different from other kinds of spanish, except for intonation, fast-speech, slang, cutting words and not pronouncing the end of words, specially if they end in s, d, or t... I agree it might be somehow difficult for outsiders, and surely variants like andean colombian spanish might be much easier... but, this is not any different as when you consider formal english against a deep rural Texas or Arkansas slang, or aussie dialects you find far away in the outback, etc, even within England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales we find marked differences in the way english is spoken. I am familiar with the many differences there are among german dialects and I think chilean slang is not as divergent as this case. And if we think about Italy, well, there the difference between formal standard italian and the provincial dialects is huge!

Since they are missioners I guess they got in contact with very marginal people, not all chilean use COA slang in their speaking, that is a slang used by vey marginal people, without education and in most of the cases, delincuents. Is true we speak a very different spanish but not coa.
The funny thing about chilean spanish is that most of the people can do the switch between proper spanish and chilean dialect. So if you really don´t want to be understood by a foreing spanish speaker you just speak in chilean. Most of the times, that depends on the situation too, therefore we will speak standard spanish in formal circumstances, but in our daily life, speaking with family and friends it is just so unnatural not to speak chilean. ajjsajsjasj
