Hot food makes you sweat that's why a lot of places with warm climates have spicy food. Thailand also comes immedicately to mind, India. It' makes you sweat and actually cools you off. That's the theory anyway.

@@mysh3743 banana's specifically because unlike a lot of other fruits it releases a gas when bagged that increase the ripening rate. I work at a grocery store and we have to prevent this process specifically

    • @Acidfunkish
      @Acidfunkish 4 роки тому +28

All fruits that ripen with ethylene gas (climacteric) also produce it. They also stop producing ethylene gas once they've been cut or opened (no banana peel), which is why fruits that have been opened will stop ripening. These produce are generally the most common (in the northern hemisphere, anyway), inexpensive, and easy to ship, as they can ripen over time, during the shipping process. Still, the large majority of these will not increase in sweetness, even when left to ripen.
Most fruits stop ripening when they're picked (non-climacteric fruit), though, and don't produce or ripen with ethylene gas. They will continue to soften (decay, but in a good way), but not ripen or sweeten anymore. These are generally more expensive in places like Canada, the USA, and UK, because they must FINISH ripening before even starting the shipment process. If this were to take too long, these could decompose before they arrive.
So, before you do the paper bag trick, make sure that the fruit is climacteric.
Eg: APPLE, apricot, avocado, BANANA, KIWI, MANGO, nectarine, peach, PEAR, tomato. The ones in all capital letters will sweeten, over time, as well. The others will only ripen (soften - not decay), and enhance aroma.
If they're non-climacteric, you're potentially just hastening decomposition! Also, if they're non-climacteric and unripe, there's nothing you can do to increase sweetness. It is never going to get any better. Your farmer picked too early, and your grocer put it up for sale, anyway. 😭

It's debated, but it doesn't really matter. Some people argue that it is a Tex-Mex dish, others argue that it is a Cali-Mex dish. Regardless, the "Mex" is never disputed, so it is influenced or inherently Mexican. I encourage you to ignore those comments, because Mexican food definitely has "controversy" around it, and if you get caught in the middle of it, you will never win.

You did so good! You are right and now I'm gonna have to ask my mom to make me pozole. But if you really want the full experience, add some homemade salsa to your bowl. This is how you make it:
-Grab some of those spicy red peppers (I forgot what they're called but they are red (sometimes dark) and pretty skinny. and don't grab too many BCS they are VERY spicy)
    - Grab a lot of tomatillos (You can find them at any Mexican store. Just ask for (toe-mah-tee-yos))
-Boil them until the tomatillos are a bit yellow and really soft but don't boil them to the point where they're falling apart.
-Get a blender and put all or most of the tomatillos in there with a bit if the boiled water and just a couple of chiles(You can add more chiles if the ending result is not spicy enough. OR add some more tomatillos if too spicy)
-Add a good amount of salt and garlic(I use garlic powder but you can use regular garlic) Until it tastes good. If you think you've added enough spices and it still tastes bitter and not good, that means you didn't put enough.

So much respect for being so open minded and appreciative of other cultures and you also did great with all the dishes. Pozole is one of my fave dishes but prefer the green version most and always add extra hominy because can’t get enough.

I love that you sound Mexican when you say a Spanish word. There is nothing I. The world that compares to the delish flavors of Mexican food. And I mean real Mexican food. My mom died about 10 years ago. But I still remember every Saturday she would call us to come over because she made flour tortillas, meat in paprika gravy, fresh salsa, fresh pinto beans. Her food was amazing and I miss her and her love for cooking.i love you and how you speak Spanish and made pozole. You should try menudo my all time favorite soup. I make a great menudo. I don't go to eat in restaurant since it's never the same. You go my Mexican sister.

I’m Chicana. Seeing you making and enjoying Mexican food made me soul happy! These days I’ve been using gochujang to cook certain Mexican dishes & my family loves it! Making Mexican chile be so much work & sometimes I just can’t be bothered so I’ll add a spoon of gochujang. I mainly use it for caldos (soups). Sea food caldo with two spoons of gochujang is 👌. Caldo de rez, pozole, etc.

    • @gummybear302

Frida Kahlo you’ll never hear an American saying our food is greasy unless you can literally see grease coming off of it lol. You’ll never see an American eating an average American breakfast and then saying “wow I feel so heavy from all that greasy food”. We got iron stomachs apparently.

Oh, just so you know, when you have a lot of corn tortillas left over, for breakfast we have a meal called “Chilaquiles”, where you cut the tortillas into triangles and cook them in spicy tomato sauce with cheese. I like to put Mexican sour cream and queso fresco on it afterward, and it’s usually served with sunny side up or overeasy eggs. You can eat it with salsa if you want but it’s not necessary
