If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
    How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
    Never quit,
    Alex
    FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

100% agree with your assessment Alex. I am a CPA small business owner looking to break into the six figure a month range and have read and shared much of your content with fellow business owners and clients. I’ve read and gifted both of your books, listen to “the game” on a regular basis and am eagerly waiting on “$100M Sales”, or whatever book 3 is called. You’ve got a brilliant mind on business and have developed a great skill of breaking complex subjects into understandable bite-sized pieces in plain English. I love your business stuff and devour it. I haven’t watched your videos in a while because I don’t care what you eat, drive, politics, hobbies, vlogs, clothing choices, gym equipment choices, etc. I admire and respect your business acumen and from a selfish standpoint am only interested in that. It’s fun when all those Alex personality bits are mixed into your educational content but the more the videos focused on non-business topics the less engaged I became. Stoked to see you return to the topic of business education. I also love business and helping owners succeed and use much of your material in my role as a fractional CFO for various clients. Thank you for tracking and responding to your viewer metrics. I am a fan and still have much to learn from you.

I needed this. My channel is not as big as Alex, but I shifted my content too. I had a big focus on views and I was basically putting a lot of time and effort into making like video art pieces. But the views keep tanking. I never want to diminish quality, but going forward, it'll be less about production quality and more about the right people. Which is my core audience, fans of boom bap hip-hop music.

A sub theory of mine is that business owners tend to be more focused in general and so the long form is much more appealing. I see lots of people who are prone toward distraction to engage with short form fast consume content. Of course that's a generalization, and my personal observation. So this new-old direction is absolutely banger value for the right people.

Love the new content style Alex. One thing I would say I loved most about your old content from a few years ago when I first found you was how intimate it was. Just you in your home office talking directly to me (the viewer) one on one. These presentation style videos feel cool and are valuable don't get me wrong but it feels more like I'm being preached at in a crowd of "business owners" at a convention instead of feeling like I'm having a personal one on one pow-wow with the GOAT Hormozi! I found Alex about 8 months ago. Read both his $100M books all the way through 4 time. Watched absolutely every one of his videos at least once. the greatest value I get from his videos is learning how he thinks, how he approaches problems, and how he finds potential pitfalls. We recently had a similar experience. We make music for content creators/filmmakers and at first, we were uploading everything (finding our baseline).
Didn't take long before it was obvious that creators LOVE suspenseful music.
That was our compass. Just so happened to be easier AND more fun than what we were doing before - with 2x the results.
Great stuff Alex, thus business stuff is fractal!

  • @PeterShev

I wonder if these results could've been confounded by the fact that your video output basically doubled. Just check: last 14 business-related videos you put out were during 1.5 months and the 14 videos before that were put out over 3 months. Maybe that is why engagement and some other stuff is higher..just a thought

Genuine question, what happened to being a niche of one ? Showcasing all your interests to be unique and not talking about only one topic ?
Really curious to know because I’ve been trying to create my own niche and now I feel like I should go hyper niche to grow more…

    • @vitorangonese
      @vitorangonese 4 місяці тому

Here's my take on it (as someone who helps people with content strategy): being a "niche of one" works in a lifestyle-content context, where you're documenting the stuff you're doing and not really worrying about converting the most amount of people possible (on Instagram Stories, for example) - this is still useful for creating a super engaged (yet more limited) fan base, while pushing away some other people who might not like/identify with you. From my understanding, Alex decided to pivot his content strategy because he was focusing too much on the whole "wide content" idea, bringing in too many people who were not really interested on his main thing (business), in the first place. Not only that, but he was implementing this approach on all platforms, which is not optimal, because on a medium like UA-cam Long-Form, you want to create higher value, more specific content for the specific audience you're trying to target - and for them only - because that ensures that, even if the video has way less reach, it'll be much more effective in converting the people watching into customers/applicants, etc..

    • @dna8269
      @dna8269 4 місяці тому

You can still mention or show things you like, but it has to all funnel back to the benefit of the viewer in the niche you've selected. Just randomly talking about a bunch of stuff and calling yourself the niche doesnt work for 99% of people

But we also love Alex's views on Business philosophy and his views and advices on working harder, over preparing, leaving nothing in the tank, etc. Turns out that we love all the things that he is actually passionate about.
Last thing, the green screen looks absurd. The closet look was better, or even that look where Alex was sitting in the darkness talking about his family and why he didn't go home for Christmas.

This is the best content. I remember watching your closet videos and thinking: How is this much value available for free? - These videos used to blow my mind. For example, the video from your top lessons from 2020 was packed with so much value that I couldn't believe it!!

Hey Alex! I really appreciate you and the content you have been putting out over the years.
Just wanted throw out the thought that maybe your viewership hypothesis isn’t binary.
Just as you have bulking and cutting phases in bodybuilding, perhaps the same is true of audience building.
You built big audience with wider content, then cut down with narrower content.
I imagine the process is cyclical and that there will be numerous phases of wide and narrow content periods throughout the lifecycle of your journey.
Again I appreciate you SO much and love the new content you have been putting out!

This is the 1 of 0 move! 9% business owners, maybe .001% are doing 200M+
How many of those people also:
    - Enjoy making content, and has 10 years' worth of experience there
    - Have a monetization method that is external to the content
    - Started from 0 so can speak to the whole journey
Probably only 1-2 people in the world!

I've only been watching about 10% of videos while it was high production. I watched almost all the early videos back in the days. I haven't checked out the new old style videos yet but im glad you're going back to that style. I will probably watch most of your videos again👍

This was basically a 25 min meeting briefing the audience on what has been done and the direction here after but also served as content. Fantastic but simple. The definition of genius IMO. The ability to simplify and formulate complex ideas

Maybe I’m the only one, but I loved the Mozi in a closet and Sam Ovens holding an iPhone and spitting game at me for an hour and a half type content. The lower effort, the better. Feels more raw.

Sorry, but I don't believe it will work well for small channels. This strategy is for Alex, not for beginners. UA-cam will not promote your stuff from the beginning if you're not going wider. Alex plays different game.

    Hi Alex and team,
I am 23 year old and have progressed into a role to help with ideas to grow the business. The guys in higher positions all have MBA's (Master in Business Administration) and told me that I should think about doing an MBA. After researching it I found that it basically covers every aspect of the business as a subject but to study it I would have to go into debt I don't want. I already started with your two books and will soon finish Leads, that has already transformed the way the lead team thinks and approach leads, which covers marketing and sales.
    The Question:
What recommendations do you have for courses, books, UA-cam channels or some other way of learning I can do to study the other aspects that an MBA will give me?

Out of curiosity, what was the experiment/outcome with the Hormozi Media channel? I’ve noticed less posting from there and my assumption is you are doubling down on your “personal brand” pages? As a business owner love the recommitment to this content, thank you!

    Love the current deeper content!
As you were going through the videos you've done talking about how they'd apply to different groups I thought it'd be class if you could categorise your videos based on who would benefit from them to make them more findable. Would be class to make custom tracks of videos (effectively packaging up your existing videos into free courses) for specific types of businesses that can walk them through the different challenges they'll face at each stage in detail.
Might also help identify gaps in content (do the videos for one type of business connect together? Could it get them from 0 to your buy box?), estimate audience size (averaging views for videos targetting one specific type of business), and nurture them through a funnel.
Thank you for what you do!

Hey Alex, I was thinking a few months ago man, it seems like he’s changed his content for a wider audience and it’s unfortunate.
I think people like myself somewhat fit the avatar you’re going after (I’m not there yet but close).
When you think about it, it makes sense to make content that your avatar wants, but on the other hand, you also want a bigger audience. What you are saying is 100% true-better to have less views, but have them all be your desired avatar.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I would prefer zero production if it meant you making more videos. Just you talking about business is all I want to hear!

YES!!!!!! I don’t want you to be a reality TV show star. I want you to be real and share your experiences. We have no peers. I know no one who is doing what we are doing the way we are doing it. We are building a family legacy, and are blindly (?) feeling our way through this. We need you to go deep, now shallow. We want to plant deep roots for future generations, and your most recent content has been most beneficial. In fact, we were just talking about that last week.
    Codie Sanchez… are you listening?

  •  4 місяці тому +1

Yep, now it feels like you are talking to me! This is what I expected - stuff for business owners. I started to think maybe that's not the case, but happy to see it was just a detour :D

Love this style of content! But a couple long form a month more wide/philosophy of life would be great. 80/20 kinda. These ones I cannot just listen and sometimes I just have to stack them for later.
