    A couple years ago I spent about $450 on a new Benchmade Infidel. Loved the thing for about a month until I stabbed the tip into an old desk, without even that much pressure, and I broke the action. When I took it apart the piece that connects the blade to the rails had snapped. Contacted bench made and was told it would cost something like $250 to repair. Uh, excuse me? Yeah, they wouldn't even warranty it.
    Shortly after got my first Microtech Combat Troodon. Worried that it might fail like the bench made I really abused it. Stabbed it through an old fridge door many times, hammered it through a sheet of plywood, and a lot more. The thing is indestructible. So hands down go with the Microtech. For the same price you get a knife that is far superior in toughness and finish. IMHO, the Infidel is a piece of junk and Benchmade knows it.

    I just got the infidel and I love the fact that I’m not the only person that saw the nut sack on the knife. I made a joke about that today at work with a coworker. Microtech > Benchmade. It’s as easy as that. Add the DE with one side being fully serrated and that Dirac Delta will handle all cutting needs…

    Might be late, but thought I'd say something. If you have the feeling an OTF fires slow or different in one direction than the other there are 2 things I have see. The L shaped piece on either side of the spring can rub on the inside of the housing and brake the springs a bit. I have seen a rough surface on the upper side of the piece, after polishing it the knife fired much harder. Another thing that might lead the piece to rub is that it does not sit right in the spring holder. Had a knife, where the L bracket had a bit of a sharp corner that made it press against the housing on the outwrds stroke. After filing it off the piece sat much deeper in the holder and had less contact with the housing making this knife also fire much easier and faster.

    In terms of a weapon that might have to be used as intended, the Infidel is actually designed as a real world weapon, not a couch fidget tool. With that said, I'm a huge fan of the Microtech knives and absolutely love them. A latest review of the colored handle Infidels of the big knife seller websites show the Infidel going for $650 which is a ridiculous price.

    I’ll be honest, I much prefer the infidel handle. God forbid you ever do find yourself using it as it’s intended, the faceted design and overall shape of the handle will offer a rock solid grip.

    I'd go with the Microtech all day. They have survived some of the nastiest torture tests of any otf knives. The reliability and construction of the Microtech is second to none. The Benchmade is a fine otf knife, but the Delta has it beat in my opinion.

    Do you think that for $230 it would be a different story? Or is even $230 too high a price for the outdated infidel? I hear a lot of comparisons and criticisms about the blade steel and how outdated it is and overpriced it is compared to other knives the same price ($500) however rn it’s being sold on Benchmades site for $230. I don’t think I can justify $400+ for a knife it’s just not something in my budget, but $230 on the other hand is very affordable. Wdy think? Is even $230 “overpriced” for the infidel?

    I had both and used both extensively and I will tell you if your looking to use it for field work or any sort of real world application the infidel worked better for me. The texture of the material, the east of the blade mechanism it was was just simpler to use and extremely durable. BYW, the spring stiffness has nothing to do with operation or reliability of it just for your info. I will give the Microtech the more elegant look of your into that stuff but I the end of the day I prefer function over fashion. Just my opinion

    • @griff7749
      @griff7749 Рік тому

      That's not entirely true that spring stiffness has nothing to do with reliability. Sure design, blade mass, fit, tolerances, etc also are factors in reliability, but how much force is applied to the blade obviously is a factor in whether the blade locks out. And the switch strength is directly related to the main spring.

    Everything other than the possible deployment issues with the weaker spring is pretty much irrelevant, when it comes to a practical standpoint...that puppy will pierce right through a temple let alone a torso as intended as a combat blade. The reason to get the Infidel is if you plan on actually stabbing things... the handle on the Infidel is exponentially better for actually holding onto while stabbing into objects with decent resistance, and the locking mechanism is better. The Delta is much more likely for your hand to slide forward if you stab something. I do wish the Benchmade had a glass breaker, but I think you can get a modified pocket clip that has a glass breaker integrated into it.
