Hi! If you'd like to visit a country in Europe with more "special" food I'd suggest the North of Sweden, where the Sami people live. There is Palt (it,s not Sami, it comes from Piteå, but I've never seen it anywhere else) and there is moose meat and reindeer heart and stuff like that. And people eat there as part of their normal life (I ate it too). If you go in wintertime you can catch some northern lights.
Sonny the „salad“ is called „Kresse“ in English it is called cress I think and it is meant to get cut off with the scissors they provided and you put it on your bread, most often on top of some creame cheese or scrambled eggs 😅 it’s not a salad, it’s more a topping for savory breakfast items 😂 I felt the need to clerafy that, cause it’s well known here in Germany where I am from 👍🏼
You are right, those are micro greens meant to have the person cut a few to put on their open faced sandwiches. I cringed when he took the whole thing and bit into it. For someone who's career is about food, he should have known better. Not only from experience but from common sense. SMH
@@HeLlO__J Why would anyone think that you would pick up the whole flat of herbs to eat? Clearly common sense is not common anymore. I don't know how most people survive on a daily basis with how stupid they are. And I am saying this as someone who has worked with the public for over 30 years. People are dumb!!
The beef you ate actually wasn't local. It wrote South America next to entrecote. Swizerland is just an expensive country, that doesn't mean what you get is always good quality or local, it just means that it's expensive to do business there.
We live in Scandinavia, which is pretty expensive, and we often travel to Italy by car. We can pass through either Switzerland or Austria. We always choose Austria because of the outrageous prices in Switzerland. It's so expensive it's not even funny! You should come to Denmark. Our food is delicious and it's cheaper than Switzerland. :)
I have been to Sweden, Denmark, and Norway before Covid! I found Norway to be most expensive of all. I have been to Switzerland 3 times before and I found the it to be as expensive as Norway! The reason I keep going back there is because it’s very beautiful! I don’t mind paying if it’s worth it. We usually order dinner from the hotel menu and the prices can be very expensive.
Danish food is so hearty, and your culture is so "hyglig". I love sitting in a Danish cafe with smørrebrød and bayers. Too bad your DKK is so expensive for us Norwegians, now it is already more expensive to eat out in Denmark, than in Norway. Groceries are still slightly cheaper in DK.
Sunny, First of all I wanna tell you how much i enjoy your videos. You and your team are amazing content creators, that can transform a moment into a culinary satisfaction for the eyes. I espacially enjoy your content in my pregnancy six months ago. You inspired me to open up my very own foodtruck with authentic brazilian snacks. To see you in my home country is acutally very funny - because of course you had to pick the most expensive hotel in all switzerland!😂 - i was also very surprised since you said that Europe doesn‘t really interests you, so i lost hope to see a video like this one. Hopefully you found time to go a bit deeper into the country to get the ultimate swiss experience! Have a wounderful trip and can‘t wait for some more food ! Love, Andrea
Sonny, I've been watching your videos for years and you've never missed. it's refreshing seeing a video about Switzerland for once. greetings from Switzerland! (Ps: I HATE Spargel lmfao)
Always a great show to watch and always waiting for the next episode. When you are in Switzerland again you must try the traditional Raclette if you love cheese and definitely make take a trip to the Zeudhauskeller in Zürich. Absolute treat and will fit in with your interaction zest
The moment he mentioned that the restaurant was on an island and they were going there by boat I looked through the comments to see if someone noticed. I am not disappointed.
The ferry and elevator to Bürgenstock are *one* option of getting there. A perfectly good road leads there as well, just doesn‘t make such a beefy opener😂
As someone who lives in Germany, it is pretty funny to hear someone who is trying to speak german, but I think you were pretty good with your pronunciation. See that as praise from a German. Well done
I've only just discovered your channel. Absolutely love your content, style, attitude and humour. Keep it up! Nice to see one of our British national treasures, Michael Rosen, pop up at 15.48.
I'm from Switzerland and I have to point out the Bürgenstock is absolutly expensive! I would love to be there one night because they have a wonderfull wellness place but no way I could afford that! Not everything is so expensive here!
This, compared to the price, low quality food, should be enough fraud to get someone to jail. There's much better food in every random big city in europe!
You could have gone to Graubünden and try out Capuns or Engadiner waltnut cake or barley soup. You could explore Ticino and Geneva with their italian and or french dishes in that region. I think you could've done better to represent swiss food. And Switzerland is a bit more expensive, but you don't need to pay these absurd amounts like Sonny did. Anyways, hope you stay safe!
@Fasty2107 just go. Most people don't care where your from as long as you aren't a rude jerk. Respect the local customs and be nice and you'll be fine
Very sad how he travels Indonesia and co. for like eternity and makes one swiss video about some overpriced tourist trap lol... no traditional restaurants or dishes at all.
Now some people will realize that Yes we have nice salaries in Switzerland that allow us to be pretty good when travelling to other countries ! But we also pay at least a kidney for a cheeseburger with fries the other time of the year 😂
Dear Sonny, I live in Lucerne and I went to the restaurant „Obermatt“ several times. The quality of the fish is so great there - and I get the snails as a starter every time 😄 the beef was from south america.. the bürgenstock resort is extremly expensive. You don‘t find many swiss people there.. I recommend you to visit Lucerne the next time, or just go to the smaller towns, there the food is less expensive. And contact me next time, we have a boat on the lake lucerne, you don‘t have to pay CHF 600 for it - it‘s free for you 😄 thanks so much for your videos, they are just great!!
Hi my name is not Sonny but would I be able to sleep in your backyard in a tent if I showed up? No way I could afford the accommodation Sonny had but I would pay a reasonable amount of money for the ability to have a place to sleep. I don't see myself heading to Lake Lucerne anytime soon but the boat offer sounds awesome if you would extend it to others, maybe if you get to dine as well. Be a great way to learn about one another. Best wishes!
Awww you were in Switzerland?! Would've loved to say hi :). I hope you enjoyed your stay and got to see more actual Swiss attractions and food (the Quatari Hotel is just a tourist trap for rich people ^^').
A huge menu means you can’t do any of it perfectly, in Europe the better establishments will have small menu’s but what is on it will be (or should be) really good! The room does seem a bit small though for that price hahah!
@MFateh2000 I mean theres many other luxurious visits other than Switzerland, I couldn't really think of any other reasons to vacation there unless you want to just immerse yourself in the landscape which is gorgeous btw
@@abilawaandamari8366 it is indeed magnificent but the prices seem a bit unregulated. How much do swiss people make? I'm a stranger anyways so my opinion may not be valid 😅.
@@MFateh2000 I don't have the exact number but I'm pretty sure they're paid well there's basically no poverty there and they also have a super strong passport
You should go to Les Lindarets it’s in France but close to the Swiss border. I always go ski in that area and the food is amazing. Much better than what we have seen here.
That was a fun day. I have been to Zermatt twice and both times used the grocery store and saved probably $500 or more by eating in my hotel room. Pretty much everyone else had the same plan as the grocery store was packed every time I went.
As a Swiss and yearlong subscriber to the main channel this video was barely watchable for me. In fact I didn't watch it completely so this comment will not do it justice. Anyhow: the hotel and food shown are so dummy expensive it hurts because it's portraying the luxury touristy side of our country. I don't like that side but I guess it's part of the system that a handful of rich people and companies get even richer by feeding into the narrative of that over the top exclusivity. There are fantastic hotels and restaurants in Switzerland with very good value, run by locals that are passionate and not motivated by high margins. Switzerland is expensive, yes. In general the cost of living is high which puts around 1/8 of Swiss people at risk to be poor (source: caritas). No way those people could or even want to afford eating at Bürgenstock once in their lifetime. Historically seen Switzerland used to be poor as a whole. Obviously it always had wealthy families but generally seen many Swiss people had to emigrate to other countries to escape poverty. What I'm trying to say is that I'd love a more authentic approach to Switzerland like we see in other videos. To be fair most of the other videos are over the top too, lol. But at least we see the local food culture and food niches. That would have been fun for me to watch as well. Switzerland has such fun traditions, and every little village has its quirks. You just need to explore them which is often surprisingly affordable.
I really love watching your videos, but I have to say as a Swiss person, the hotel was a pretty bad representation of Swiss prices and even Swiss hotellerie. The second restaurant had some typical Swiss dishes, but I would love for you to maybe explore some more traditional ones, maybe during the hunting season in autumn where you can find a lot of amazing and unique Swiss dishes, or just visiting smaller/more local restaurants in different regions (as we have varying traditions in the cantons).
Been to Switzerland many times. It's the cleanest country in the world. Beautiful nature, friendly people. But very expensive. Only place I traveled to that was even more expensive is Monte Carlo (monaco), where I spend 1500 dollars per night on average and around 400 dollars per restaurant visit (me and my 2 kids).
what has be said is, swiss people cook for themself way more often than other countries that are accustomed to eat put for lunch and dinner all the time. Eating out in switzerland (healthy food) really gets into your pockets.
Switzerland is really one of the places I’d like to visit in my bucket list because of it’s scenic nature. I guess i’ll just keep it in the bucket after knowing the cost of living. 🤣🥺
nah you can make switzerland expensive if you want to. but you can visit and be cost effektiv. Nature is free and food and hotels are certainly not as cheap as other countries in europe but, the one in the video is certainly a super expensive one. Also public transport will take you almost everywhere for a good price.
If you got the money, absolutely go for it... I went to Italy for 2 weeks last year (By car) and went through Switzerland for a few days because me and my buddy wanted to go to the Jungfraujoch mountan pass, which is one of the highest spots in all of Europe... You have to buy a train ticket to go up there which costed us about 200 euro's each. The view up there was absolutely gorgeous and i had the best cup of goulash in my life up there, they also have shops up there that sell Swiss chocolate.. They even gave us free chocolate when we were about to go down again (No idea if they do that every time or that we got lucky)..
In Switzerland i would recommend Älplermagronen, Fondue, Raclett, Rösti, Zöri Gschnätzlets, Capuns, Bündner Nusstorte usw... There are several regions in Switzerland with diffrent meals. Check those out...
I wanted to go to Switzerland before watching this video but it seems out of control. Those prices are insane. I'll skip it and go somewhere else. Thanks for keeping me in the loop, Sonny!
FYI Bürgerstock is not a representative hotel. No normal swiss person ever goes there... 250 francs is normal for a hotel where everything is quite much the same except maybe the view.
Yeah, it is expensive but not that expensive either, similar to major US cities. Expect like $40-80 per person for a regular restuaruant dinner (tax and tip included), maybe $100-150 if it is fancy. Hotels are around $100-300 for a 3-4 star, and open ended beyond that, but this place is a scam for tourists, usually you would at least get luxury treatment with excellent food. As with other places in the world try not to follow the biggest toruist traps, those usually offer the lowest value for your money.
Yeah we have a bit of the same issue here in Denmark. Just because you pay a lot for the food it doesn't guarantee that it's good. In fact here in my city stuff like the best burger and best pizza - you get from one of the "cheaper" places. The whole fancy burger thing is HIGHLY overrated. I've tried maybe 2 or 3 burgers of the expensive kind here which were worth the price - but that was all because of some "special ingredient" - like a truffle burger which was perfectly balanced which has to be my number 1... but also cost around 100$ - so yeah - even here that's a "bit much" for a burger. LOL Next time - talk to a local and have them take you to the best places. Swiss food can be REALLY good - but they do have a tendency to focus more on the "fancy" than the "good", and a local would know what is actually worth it and what is not... and 70$ for a basic burger like that with a few hand fulls of fries is just unreasonable. Also that pasta should been 20 and not 43. That's insane!... and I'm not even gonna comment of the 3€ of asparagus being that expensive... Literally moronic.
It's quite interesting to see your home country from the perspective of someone who doesn't live here or know how things rule 😂 Yea Switzerland is primarily expensive, of course it's even more expensive when you search for "high class stuff" Go eat, drink and party where the "normal" people are Greetings from Zürich
I wonder what the implant prices are like for that resort dentist? Might be cheaper to fly out there and spend $900 a night at the hotel rather than just getting the procedure done here in America where it would cost me $50,000+
why would you go to switzerland of all places to do that? anywhere in europe would be less expensive. you could even go do it in asia like korea and it would be less expensive
@@towera In my experience everything except gas and tobacco is almost double the prize compared to Germany, just a few km east. To make it comparable: the same margherita from pizza hut costs about 20€ in Luxemburg, and 10€ in Germany. I'd call that expensive. But Luxemburgians also earn way more and pay fewer taxes.
@@ciscam yeah It’s expensive if you compare it to Germany Belgium and France. But I was comparing this to Switzerland and I thought Luxembourg was a cheaper country after being to both.
@@towera The food also isn't that expensive where Sonny went. He cherrypicked overpriced hotel food then got excited when he was comped a champagne bottle worth less than 1/10th of what the hotel cost. That said - Moet&Chandon is delicious.
The most important thing to know about switzerland is that price does not always equal quality. Our salaries are high, but so is cost of living. Imagine earning over 6k per month while still struggling to pay your rent 😂 Eating out is even a luxury for us swiss (besides the common fast food places). Btw. you should look at the grocery store sushi prices here, i was shocked when i noticed how affordable suschi actually was in japan.

Totally agree with you on the Wagyu burger. It seems that it has became a thing to put Wagyu everywhere, but when the meat is minced, there's absolutey no interest at all. The marbling is what's interesting in Wagyu. But I guess consumers can be easily fooled by trendy expensive food.

Beautiful scenery. Also in Europe, there are monasteries and convents that operate guesthouses, and have done so since the Middle Ages that are way more reasonable in price.
I'm from Switzerland and I'm sorry that you were into that kind of rich hotel for tourist. They overprized everything for nothing, because of their enormous head. The dark cured meat that you had is called "viande des grisons" and it is the most delectable charcuterie I can think of. Europe has a lot of amazing charcuterie, but this one to me is the best of all. On a side note, macaroons and macarons are two very different pastries. The former is mostly made of coconut and simple egg white mix, while macarons is made of almond flour and egg white meringue (French, Italian, or Swiss). Both are also mind-blowingly delicious! On a negative note, European countries absolutely SUCK at making burgers. I've never had such bad burgers than when I've been there. They're underwhelming and simply just don't work. The bread, meat, condiments, etc. they just don't work.
Macaroons are made with raw potato, and icing sugar, no eggs. You mix it until everything is thoroughly blended (don't use a blender) and slightly wet. Then you can mould it by hand, and leave to set in the fridge. Once set, dip each one in melted choc and roll in coconut. My mother was a chef, and we learned to cook by watching her xx

I rarely comment on food tubes but you present everything so nicely!!! I enjoyed your videos very much, keep up the great work!

You just need to explore them which is often surprisingly affordable.
so happy i found sonny
It's so clean that even the water you can get in some places near the road is literally as fresh as it gets..
what has be said is, swiss people cook for themself way more often than other countries that are accustomed to eat put for lunch and dinner all the time. Eating out in switzerland (healthy food) really gets into your pockets.
Switzerland is really one of the places I’d like to visit in my bucket list because of it’s scenic nature. I guess i’ll just keep it in the bucket after knowing the cost of living. 🤣🥺
Just go to Colorado lol
nah you can make switzerland expensive if you want to. but you can visit and be cost effektiv.

@@Sinns1705 thank you for the information. Appreciate your insight
Just go if you got the money for it, you can get a lot cheaper food if you stay in a nice local area..
LOL
Next time - talk to a local and have them take you to the best places.
It's quite interesting to see your home country from the perspective of someone who doesn't live here or know how things rule 😂
Yea Switzerland is primarily expensive, of course it's even more expensive when you search for "high class stuff"

I've lived in Luxembourg before and the food is not expensive. Only rent/property is or if you want to buy a car etc
@@towera In my experience everything except gas and tobacco is almost double the prize compared to Germany, just a few km east. Wow, Europe is beautiful! My first trip should be there👀
The dark cured meat that you had is called "viande des grisons" and it is the most delectable charcuterie I can think of.
