Had a crash this morning. 3D printed a part from MyMiniFactory and used these directions to repair my Phantom. www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-dji-phantom-3-camera-vibration-absorbing-board-54572 All went well. Antenna wires are difficult to reinstall with my fat fingers, but be patient and don't force it. Thanks for the help.
I have been looking everywhere for a instructions on how to reconnect the black wire. Your video is the first one to that has properly explained how to re-connect the antenna wire. thanks for making the video =D
well first thing thanks a lot. i was wondering for 3 days how to remove those little cables. yo are the man. also I feel better now because reading all the comments i just find out that i am not the only one who crash the phantom 3.
Thank you Todd. If I remember correctly the end of the wire is a U.fl connection and most wifi antenna wires are the same U.fl. you may be able to use a wire from an old router. Its been a few years since I messed with the P3 so I just can't recall.
+GTDrone I would have to say no. When I flew mine without the gimbal my display said No signal. It appears that even the GPS is integrated into the gimbal. Of course the GPS is located in the top of the phantom shell but it did not appear to work. I didn't try to make it RTH so I may be wrong. It may only save the records but not allow you to view in real time.
guardmy6 thanks for answering , what happen when you try RTH , i ask to other people and they told me that they don't get telemetry but the RTH works fine as long you get satellites , do you know if there is a way to get a cheap telemitry , i want to get one of those p3s that sells in eBay without gimbal just to fly with the quad for fun , but i want RTH and telemetry , because i don't want to risk my actual phantom with the gimbal on
At the time I messed with mine with the gimbal off I was to afraid of a fly away to fly it much without everything working. I was still new at flying the P3. Since I use mine for videography Im not sure what options are out there for flying without the camera system. I would like to know though. If I am able to get telemetry and attach my own rig to the phantom, I could do more stuff with it.
guardmy6 oo i understand , thanks for answering .. i just have a question why you have that black tape in your frame ,, you don't like the red stickers ?
+GTDrone I was going for a carbon fiber kind of look. Since the video I have painted both my P3S & P3P black with a light mist of grey. And I actually prefer the red stripes. ha
hi i have a question. recently had a crash and my gimbal stopped working, it says "gimbal gyroscope error" and when i turn my aircraft on the gimbal just doesnt work, it stays limp. By the way my camera works perfectly and i get a feed right to my app, so im thinking its not a wire problem. do you recommend i replace my gimbal and camera or is it a wire problem? thank you.
Well, that's a tough one. If the camera still works it is probably cheaper to fix it than replace it. I can't be sure without seeing it but it sounds like the gears inside the gimbal are stripped or broken completely. Do you hear any noise coming from the camera or gimbal? like a clicking or grinding sound
Guardmy6 I think i hear a faint grinding sound, its definitely making a noise. i just want to thank you for giving me some advice in advance, i havent been able to get help or an opinon from anyone. i need to fix this asap because i have some projects coming up. I was thinking of buying a new gimbal and camera or even a whole new drone body. :/
Thanks for this, great help! I have to replace the bottom bracket attached to the body and the black and grey wires had me concerned. Wish I'd watched this before cutting the plastic shock absorber pin, but oh well.
Dan Harrington I hear that. I had a similar experience installing a backup camera on my car. except I removed the whole bumper. lol. #lessonslearnedthehardway
Thanks for posting this video. A little of my vibration board cracked and could not find a video until now of how to take the camera off. I do have one question. Those RFL connectors they look pretty easy to come off and appear to snap off so do the connectors snap back on when going back together?
yes they do. The connectors are easier to get off then back on. Just make sure you have them lined up. if you feel like it won't snap back on then move it around a little and try again. I'm glad the video helped.
+Joseph Remele well, probably a finger. I know there isn't really room to fit in there but if you use any kind of a tool it tends to slip off and you need those connectors to be right on top of each other and snap straight down. don't worry it's easier then it sounds. it's not likely to break with just a finger.
+guardmy6 Appreciate the advice. I get the part on Tuesday of this week. So if I can install it myself it will save me a lot of money. The vibration board was only 9 bucks. I am going to share the hell out of this post.
Is it possible? Yes. But I'm telling you from experience. You take a huge risk of crashing again. or worse, a fly away. Sorry I wish I had better news.
Great! Unluckily my two antenna cables were broken, but I fixed it! But why are the antennas in the gimbal? The two cables are for the connection, right?
It has something to do with sending the video back to the controller. One antenna controls the aircraft and one is for telemetry. If I remember correctly. Its been a while since I messed with the P3S
Its dangerous to repair the wires. If they loose connection you could have a fly away. Its safer to replace. Which is a huge pain in the, you know what... There are videos out there to take the aircraft apart.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, and all the electronic parts stores in America (well, only about 5 national stores). "USL connector - what?" My wires pulled out, so I thought I would replace them. Not as easy as I thought since they've already been crimped, so I thought I would go with new ones.
Man that sucks. Last time I looked at B&H they also were out of stock. You may have to buy a crashed drone. You will probably have to replace the antenna inside the drone.
I have crashed mine today and the black and grey wires came out of their RFL connectors, is it impossible to put those back on? Would it be better if I bought new female RFL connectors? I feel like it would be hard because I noticed that the wire is like stereo, or it has a wire inside of a wire. Thank you I love your video!
+Kane Katubig If the connectors just came unconnected then I would leave your gimbal on and reconnect the two wires. If something else happened then you can send me a picture and I can take a look at it. guardmy6@gmail.com
+guardmy6 Same happened to me.. The wires pulled out of those tiny connectors. What would be the best way to re connect them? I popped the tiny connectors off but there so tiny I don't see how get the wire back connected to them.
+Ppr Rud Good question. If the controller is already minded then yes. If its not, I don't know but I would assume so. I did fly mine without the gimbal but just don't fly further than line of sight.
Thanks for the video. It helped me a lot. Now I need to replace the flat grey cable, but I couldn't find the link to the tutorial. Do you still have it?
Thanks for the video.. I had a crash and the camera mount broke and the whole thing ripped off..Ripped the wires right off the camera and I could not figure out where the black and grey wire went to.. Now I know but those tiny pins connectors you popped off for the black and grey are going to be hard to attach back to the wireing.. I wonder if I should just solder those back on. I think my camera is OK just those wires all ripped out.
+Randy H I have tried to crimp that type of connector before (UFL connector) you will only have problems if you don't just replace the whole wire. You need a female U.fl to U.fl cable. Sorry for the bad news
+guardmy6 Thank you for the response. Do you know where I can buy these type cables? I looked on Amazon and one end looked right but cant tell if its right size. Thanks for your help here is what I found www.amazon.com/U-FL-RP-SMA-Pigtail-Antenna-Cable/dp/B005UWD0EG
+Randy H definitely not that one. If I looked at some websites earlier and found them. I'll look it up again. in a couple of hours. I'll post a link when I find it.
+guardmy6 Ok thanks... Do you know how they connect inside the drone? I was trying to figure out what do they control. It looks like they head over towards the battery maybe looking for power for the camera? I hate to have to remove the main board if I dont need to. Thinking I might just do a splice or solder the wires back on the camera. Also do you know where to get the grey ribbon cable?
+Randy H I looked online last night but I can't remember if the other end is UFL also. I do remember it connects to the top of the main board (ESC) the ribbon you can get from DJI. I would even try to call and ask if they have the Grey and black wire. they should all be cheap
AS YOU SAID ... there's not much on this and your video covered everything i needed to know ... about the black and grey wire ....i had a disconnect and needed to to simply reconnect them
thank you for this tutorial. i was flying my drone and hit a tree and the camera came off. i was wondering on what the 2 single chords were for. now i may be able to install my camera back on. thank you. everything is in tacked and all i need to do is try to install my camera back on and see if everything works ok. again thank you.
+Strik3AMatch Well, yes and no. The wiring harness is different but the camera can be swapped out. It just may not be worth the hassle. Sorry for the delayed response. I just noticed your post.
the camera was getting hot so i took off the camera and had a look at the fan mine is broke and the wire is broken so im looking for a video on how to repair it myself
I just realized your comments were flagged because of the link you added. I just approved it. The content looks good and will hopefully help a lot of people fix their camera.
Just crashed mines. Only thing that broke was the red accessory wing guards and that black cable popped out. Thanks for this video, now I'm back in business.
hey do you know exactly what does black and grey wires do? in my opinion and research flat grey one is gives power to the gimbal which makes it possible to move. other two is i just dont know
Hannah Banner Its been a long time since I have looked inside the P3S but I remember 2 ceramic antennas on the side of the battery compartment. Two wires go to there.
+Khade Muangkroot I did not send it off. I fixed it myself. I made this video showing how I fixed it and where I bought the lens. Hope this helps. ua-cam.com/video/p8khpF9tgc8/v-deo.html
+guardmy6 how to check if the software in the camera is working fine? I broke my yaw arm and the ribbon cable everything else look fine from the out side the drone still flying but cant connect to the GPS
+Khade Muangkroot the ribbon has to be fixed for the camera to work. As far as I can tell the camera has to be functioning to get information on your phone. in other words, broken ribbon means no GPS signal sent to your phone. If your phantom hovers in 1 place without moving then your GPS is still working but the phone shows it as no signal.
+guardmy6 just check the flying GPS system didn't show up on the phone but it still working fineso is that mean that I only have a problem with the yaw arm and the ribbon then?
Recently had a crash and my gimbal stopped working, it says "gimbal overloud” and when I turn my aircraft on the gimbal become crazy. By the way my camera works perfectly and I get a feed right to my app, and I can change the angel of the camera remotely, so I’m thinking it’s not a wire problem. I hear a grinding sound; it’s definitely making a noise and the gimbal parts become warm. Do you recommend I replace the gimbal or its other parts problem? Thank you.
I cant be sure but it sounds like the gear in the gimbal arm in broken. You might be able to replace the parts but im not sure if you can. You may not be able to get those parts.
Guardmy6 are those failsafe options still accessible through dji.go apps? I'm planning to remove gimbal & camera for temporary and keep them safe while i learn to fly atti mode accurately at low altitude on open area, prevent high loss in case of crash.
Yes, You can fly without the gimbal. YOu wont get telemetry sent back but the antenna is still working. I have not flone very far without the without the gimbal but definitely have flown without it. Fly 30 or 40 feet away then flip the RTH switch. It should still work.
hmmm, idk either. i have no plan to fly it til its fixed properly. after the crash i was able to power up and throttle up the motors but i was unable to set a home point and my go app doesnt find the craft by default, i have to scroll through the other drones like i did the 1st time. hopefully once all is repaired i can do a recal and maybe that will fix it?
+guardmy6 the coaxial wires came out of the female UFL connectors. I don't know how to reconnect the wires to the female plugs. It seems difficult to me.
+Kane Katubig Its not difficult at all. You have to make sure the covers are off so you can see the male connector. with you finger gently place the female connector directly on top of the male connection and press straight down It wont work if the connectors are at an angle. You will feel it snap back on. The hardest part is fitting you finger in there.
that is a good question. i cant say because I have never tried but i would think as long as the Uf.l connector fits and its the same frequency it should work. but i dont know enough about it. sorry
what are those wires for the 2 black and the grey one i brobke mine camera bought new one connected back but i dont get signal to my phone or camera view is gone but the little hrey cable is not conected cuz broke cuold not put it back so im wondering what is for ,, other than that the camere works it moves perfectely but i dont get camere view
+Carlos Sosa Sorry to hear about your accident. Can you email me pictures of the wires, gimbal and camera? Im not sure which ones you are talking about. I do not know about 2 black wires. You should only have one.
sure i can emailyou a pic by the way i contact dji phantom nd they told me to send the drone to them to check it but im alittle afraid of how much they charge ,,, so ho wow can i email you a pic of the wires i just the grey wire that goes to the gimbal well there are 3 the big one grey and two little one one black and one grey so i broke on eof the little one ,,,
GOOD ON UA MATE 👍 U PROVED ME RIGHT AND THE DJI WORKER WRONG I DIDN'T BREAK MY ANTENNA I SIMPLY REMOVED THE CORD JUST LIKE YOU DID , ITS HARD TO EXPLAIN BUT CHEERS MY BRO
Anger sometimes can motivate. Still angry at Helipal, figured the parts won't show up until the next Chinese New Year, so I broke out the soldering iron, spent an hour splicing, using magnifying glass, reassembling and fixed it. Took these pictures today: decsoftware.com/aerial_photos.htm
www.toptoyspace.com/2015/05/14/disassembling-the-dji-phantom-3-video-camera/ this for the pro to replace gimbal fan you can now see the whole camera open and where the wires go
thx that was so easy! however dji's slow and lazy repair team tried charging me 210 (total was 350! drone cost 400!) for a brand new gimbal when they could have just replaced the terminal on the wires! So I asked them to return it! they will scam you!
I am so angry at Helipal. I ordered the parts a week ago, and they still haven't sent them. The morons keep asking me, "do you want this part, or do you want that part?" Meanwhile, another day goes by. I keep telling them, SHIP THE PARTS! I have a customer and a project and there my Phantom 3 sits, unable to fly. I'm going to look for a competitor. Know any?

no
Well, thank you for sharing the link. Ill pin it to the top so maybe more people can use the info too.

Don pollo for sure, i have crashed at least 6 or 7 times. 2 of them were devastating. glad that my video helped. happy flyin
if i find a video ill send you a link for sure no worries
Great job.... Easy to follow & you kept it short & sweet.
Thanks
Thank you, I'm glad you appreciate short and sweet.
Jim Gambacort yyyyyy
THANK YOU SIR!!!!!!!
Because of you, I got my Phantom 3 Standard working again after a crash ripped out the gimbal wires.
Hell ya, glad it helped. now go make some kick-a@# videos. lol
it's in the works my friend!
Thanks for uploading this. It saved me a lot of time.
I was able to use this video to repair my broken Phantom 3. The video shows different angles well so I know exactly how to put it back together.
thank you. that's great to know.
In a crash, the black and gray wires separated from the gimbal. Any thoughts on what to use to reattach them? btw, your video is very useful!
Thank you Todd. If I remember correctly the end of the wire is a U.fl connection and most wifi antenna wires are the same U.fl. you may be able to use a wire from an old router. Its been a few years since I messed with the P3 so I just can't recall.

Glad I could help. Thats the whole reason I made the video. At the time I could not find any help either.
Guardmy6 i decided to just replace the drone body, as the need for a drone right now is dire.
Good luck man. I was filming a sailing regatta and the battery lost all power at 30% and I lost the whole drone.
Thanks for this, great help! I have to replace the bottom bracket attached to the body and the black and grey wires had me concerned. Wish I'd watched this before cutting the plastic shock absorber pin, but oh well.

Excellent video. I'll be using some of these techniques. Very helpful. Thank you.
hey @Guardmy6 - if the grey and black wires have detached from the gold connectors - should be able to reattach without having to replace the wires?
Is it possible? Yes. But I'm telling you from experience. You take a huge risk of crashing again. or worse, a fly away. Sorry I wish I had better news.
why?
The wires are put in and crimpt with a tool. If not done right it could come loose. Thats when the bad stuff happens
Best Phantom Gimble Video ever!
Thank you, sir
Great! Unluckily my two antenna cables were broken, but I fixed it! But why are the antennas in the gimbal? The two cables are for the connection, right?

You mentioned during the video at about 4:50 USL connectors. Any idea where to get replacement USL connectors?
I did at one point but its been so long that I can't remember now. Have you tried Amazon?
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, and all the electronic parts stores in America (well, only about 5 national stores). "USL connector - what?"
My wires pulled out, so I thought I would replace them. Not as easy as I thought since they've already been crimped, so I thought I would go with new ones.
Man that sucks. Last time I looked at B&H they also were out of stock. You may have to buy a crashed drone. You will probably have to replace the antenna inside the drone.
Still looking for USL. Why would the antenna need replacement?
Aren't you talking about the grey and black wires that lead to the internal antennas on the drone?

Thanks for making this it helped with those screws.
Does it bind to the controller without the gimbal on? thanks great vid.
+Ppr Rud Good question. If the controller is already minded then yes. If its not, I don't know but I would assume so. I did fly mine without the gimbal but just don't fly further than line of sight.
+guardmy6 Why shouldn't i fly further than line of sight? Shouldn't the range stay the same.
+Ppr Rud theoretically yes. I just say that to be safe. I have not tested the RTH function with the gimbal off.
+Ppr Rud Thanks for replying by the way really appreciate it.(:
+Ppr Rud no prob.
Thanks for the video. It helped me a lot. Now I need to replace the flat grey cable, but I couldn't find the link to the tutorial. Do you still have it?
Do you mean this one? ua-cam.com/video/p8khpF9tgc8/v-deo.html
Do you happen to know the part #'s for the grey and black wires? I crashed and tore the connectors as well as the grey banded connector.
Here ya go. Those wires go to the internal antennas -amzn.to/2OYbUsd
Thanks for the video.. I had a crash and the camera mount broke and the whole thing ripped off..Ripped the wires right off the camera and I could not figure out where the black and grey wire went to.. awesome. glad your back up and running
I added a second to the arsenal so i can learn from one and in action times now i have more batteries and it ended up working out
Nice. I did the same thing. I have a standard and Pro. Of course you have to modify the P3S antenna. lol
hello please you buy your new camera gimbal on which site?
I bought my lens from rage cams but my camera was fine.
try this: ragecams.com/shop/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=dji&x=0&y=0
thank you for this tutorial. i was flying my drone and
hit a tree and the camera came off. i was wondering on what the 2 single chords were for. now i may be able to install my camera back on. thank you. everything is in tacked and all i need to do is try to install my camera back on and see if everything works ok. again thank you.
Sorry I just now saw your post. Did you get it fixed?
Yes I did thank you. It’s all working now. Thanks again
that was just what I needed thanks for sharing
+Robert Wray
your welcome
I've snapped the camera off the motor. The camera is fine. What would you recommend replace the hole gimbal or any other solutions
Did any thing else break? or was it just the arm the holds the camera?
just the arm
and a broke flex ribbon
Sorry for the delay, I didnt see your comment. you can probable fix the are and replace the ribbon with a new one
Exterior the 3d printers provide excellent replacement parts for the gimbal
Is it possible to replace the Phantom 3 standard's camera with one from the Phantom Advanced or Professional?
+Strik3AMatch
Well, yes and no. The wiring harness is different but the camera can be swapped out. It just may not be worth the hassle. Sorry for the delayed response. I just noticed your post.
do you have a video on how to replace gimbal fan on the professional
Martin Langan no but I wondered about that on my P3P. How do you know its out? Do you have to watch it till it feels hot?
the camera was getting hot so i took off the camera and had a look at the fan mine is broke and the wire is broken so im looking for a video on how to repair it myself
+Martin Langan ahhh. Thats one way to tell. Thanks. If you find a video, will you share the link?
www.toptoyspace.com/2015/05/14/disassembling-the-dji-phantom-3-video-camera/ hope this helps
I just realized your comments were flagged because of the link you added. I just approved it. The content looks good and will hopefully help a lot of people fix their camera.
How to open the small doors guarding the wifi black and grey cables ?
Thank you doing this video helped me a lot
Great video. Helped me a lot when i crashed and the camera fell off...First I thought the antenna-cables should be assembled in the connector :)
Thanks for the link bro!
AJ Robinson, thank you, im glad it helped.
Hi do you know how I can remove the lens off to the camera body? thanks
+Guillaume Madec - I made this video which you can fast forward to the parts you need. ua-cam.com/video/p8khpF9tgc8/v-deo.html
Just crashed mines. Only thing that broke was the red accessory wing guards and that black cable popped out. Thanks for this video, now I'm back in business.
Sweet. love to hear those stories. thanks for sharing
Can you put this camera on a Phantom 3 Advanced?
No, The connections are different.
hey do you know exactly what does black and grey wires do? in my opinion and research flat grey one is gives power to the gimbal which makes it possible to move. other two is i just dont know
Hannah Banner Its been a long time since I have looked inside the P3S but I remember 2 ceramic antennas on the side of the battery compartment. Two wires go to there.
Can I remove that camera permanently and connect it to my laptop to use it as my laptop camera
???
Lol. Thats one way to use the camera.
You probably can. If you can figure out the wires.
Well I was just trying to but every single wire I put did not work
Ya you will probably need to find a wiring diagram.
where did u sent your camera to for the fixing?
+Khade Muangkroot I did not send it off. I fixed it myself.
I made this video showing how I fixed it and where I bought the lens. Hope this helps.

+guardmy6 how to check if the software in the camera is working fine? I broke my yaw arm and the ribbon cable everything else look fine from the out side the drone still flying but cant connect to the GPS
+Khade Muangkroot
the ribbon has to be fixed for the camera to work.
+Khade Muangkroot I can not say for sure. but it sounds like that may be the only problem. Good Luck my friend
You may not be able to get those parts.
could you send pic's of the gear in the gimbal arm please.thank u
Can you fly it without gimbal & cam?
yes you can, you just wont get the information on your device, like video, gps, distance. so just make sure you learn the different LED light signals.
Guardmy6 are those failsafe options still accessible through dji.go apps?
I'm planning to remove gimbal & camera for temporary and keep them safe while i learn to fly atti mode accurately at low altitude on open area, prevent high loss in case of crash.
+Singgih Arfianto that is an excellent idea. highly recommended too.
i just got the phantom 3 and crashed:( but this helped me big time !!! thank you
I have the phantom 3 standard the gimble works fine but I have no video feed can I take the gimble off and put a gopro 📷 on it?
Im sure its possible but the wiring harness would need to be changed.
are you saying you can your drone without the gimbal? the grey and black wires are for the wifi antennas so idk how it could fly without it?
Yes, You can fly without the gimbal. YOu wont get telemetry sent back but the antenna is still working. I have not flone very far without the without the gimbal but definitely have flown without it. Fly 30 or 40 feet away then flip the RTH switch. It should still work.
ok cool, i just had a bad crash and one of the antenna wires broke so I am waiting for the new one to arrive
Just fly with caution. 1 antenna is for the video. 1 antenna controls the drone. I forget which one does what.
hmmm, idk either. i have no plan to fly it til its fixed properly. after the crash i was able to power up and throttle up the motors but i was unable to set a home point and my go app doesnt find the craft by default, i have to scroll through the other drones like i did the 1st time. hopefully once all is repaired i can do a recal and maybe that will fix it?
Ya I see the problem. Ya better safe than sorry.
+guardmy6 I think i misunderstood what you were saying, but yes you will need a new wire if the connector came off the wire.
+guardmy6 ok thank you very much
Thanks for sharing, it was of great help!
you're welcome.
can i replace those antennas with 2 normal 2.4ghz antenas? for the gimbal signal? :D
that is a good question. i cant say because I have never tried but i would think as long as the Uf.l connector fits and its the same frequency it should work. but i dont know enough about it. sorry
+Guardmy6 I have 3 cables in pretty sure will fit! I will give it a try
+Edmundo Andres sweet. let me know. i took the cables from my wifi router and put in my controller. it worked fine.
what are those wires for the 2 black and the grey one i brobke mine camera bought new one connected back but i dont get signal to my phone or camera view is gone but the little hrey cable is not conected cuz broke cuold not put it back so im wondering what is for ,, other than that the camere works it moves perfectely but i dont get camere view
+Carlos Sosa

Anger sometimes can motivate. Still angry at Helipal, figured the parts won't show up until the next Chinese New Year, so I broke out the soldering iron, spent an hour splicing, using magnifying glass, reassembling and fixed it. Took these pictures today:

www.toptoyspace.com/2015/05/14/disassembling-the-dji-phantom-3-video-camera/ this for the pro to replace gimbal fan you can now see the whole camera open and where the wires go
Que cansino se hace oirte ... parece que has corrido una maratón antes de hacer la review
si usted piensa que puede hacer mejor y luego hacerlo. Tenía alergias .
thx that was so easy! however dji's slow and lazy repair team tried charging me 210 (total was 350! drone cost 400!) for a brand new gimbal when they could have just replaced the terminal on the wires! So I asked them to return it! they will scam you!
Ya you can't trust them. They are a very greedy company that does not care about the customer at all.
Know any?
Dan Clark wow, that sux, im sorry but good to know that have bad customer service. have you tried Amazon?
Dont forget to mark which connector is for black or gray cable....lol

can I ask you where you set your camera to get fixed?
I was able to find a guy that gave me a discount for making a video showing the lens replacement.
