    Great review - really appreciate the real world knowledge. Only issue unfortunately is Nathan's audio quality - the clipping makes him (for me) almost impossible to follow and he clearly has great knowledge he's sharing. Would be great if you could work on improving this aspect for future videos.
    I bought the FSR just after launch and haven't regretted it for an instant - excellent aircraft.
    Oops - just expanded the heading and see you're aware.

    As you get higher and higher into the air your speed becomes faster.... yes in general, however some of the high altitude winds can present quite the problem, especially when dealing with a 100 kt headwind. Now a 100 kt tailwind would turn this thing into a VLJ.

    • @FlyFromHome
      @FlyFromHome  6 місяців тому +1

      Ahh yes the, nuances of flight planning 😅. I’d say MOST of the time higher = faster though!

    I really really love this plane, I’ve flown the piper meridian 500 in real life and it’s probably one of my favorite ga planes, the flight model in the sim isn’t the best but I love it anyways!

    Very sad they didn't implement the Garmin control panel down below the pedestal :( As a VR flyer that would have made things so much easier.

    Technical note, but every time you move your view around the video goes absolutely potato, Is that a YT thing or how it was recorded? I've set the video quality to max in YT but it still does it.

    • @FlyFromHome
      @FlyFromHome  Місяць тому

      Yeah it’s the joy of OBS I’m afraid. Every time it updates it resets your settings and the bitrate options are so esoteric you need a degree in advanced computer science just to get it to record. I sorted it out for the next video but then it decided to ruin my audio settings 🤣

    I’ve had this one for a few weeks now and it’s great; however, it does have the typical MSFS “twitchy pitch” for me. I use the TCA Boeing yoke, specifically because of its long-throw pitch and roll axis. This flight model is still switchy in pitch with that yoke.
    I don’t think it’s a MSFS issue, as the new Tecnam P2012 has a great flight model without the twitchy pitch. Same with the BS TBM850 and SWS PC12.
    Eliminating the twitch is clearly possible, with some knowledge and work.
    For me, all the fancy looks and features don’t overcome the pitch… for me.

    • @Karibanu
      @Karibanu 6 місяців тому

      It isn't specifically MSFS, you can make aircraft progressive without making them slow to respond - it's just you have to abandon both old habits & realistic numbers :p Ant's Airplanes products have a light feel without being twitchy.

    • @joshuaspop8865
      @joshuaspop8865 6 місяців тому

      @@Karibanu I’m perfectly fine with light handing, but twitch is a whole other thing and is completely unrealistic in any airplane I’ve ever been around.

    • @Karibanu
      @Karibanu 6 місяців тому

      You are 100% preaching to the choir, sir :D I'm fairly sure there's quite a few people sick of me banging on about handling in this sim. There's maybe 5 aircraft I've not modified to calm them down...

    • @joshuaspop8865
      @joshuaspop8865 6 місяців тому

      @@Karibanu it’s bad! I guess people overlook it because it has a nice EFB and you can feed your passengers.

      Yeah I found that putting a big sensitivity curve on the pitch axis made it bearable but it isn’t as good as the 414 or Comanche. It’s fine at low speed though so I figured that the airflow over the tailplane at high airspeed was increasing the sensitivity to the point where it feels twitchy. Of course in real life you have the controls getting progressively heavier to prevent you from over controlling so it’s not noticeable…

    Favorite rewiever and not part of the typical UA-cam MSFS advertisement crowd who get preview copies and mysteriously all praise the product… Would love you to review the TBM850. Which, IMHO, is significantly better than the FSR500.
    Model:
    The FSR cockpit model is wrong. Compare the model of the cockpit to real one. Especially around the landing gear lever. The dimensions are off. Also left an right reading lights are missing. Standby instruments are missing (the dev will bring them with low priority but will the might be unrealistic analogue one that are not available for the M500 at all). Window heat elements are missing. Cockpit night lighting (flood lights) leave some things to be desired. As your mentioned the de-icing boots are wrong.
    Avionics:
    Relying on the stock G1000 is great but it still misses a lot of features of the real unit (see the grey out items on the Menue). BARO STD selection not possible pressing the BARO knob (it is possible with the new SR22T), the big FPL page is missing, no aural warnings, no speeds on the PFD, no DME hold, no DME2, autopilot mode lights are missing, landing alt selection not realistic. It juts imports from the tablet but should be set using the TMR/REF button on the PFD and a lot of smaller things.
    The gimmick boarding features wear off really quickly.
    The ground handling with any sort of cross wind is abysmal and in no way real. You constantly have to counter steer even with light winds.
    Pros: Performance (very light on FPS), Tablet (very good integration), Flight model feels nice (a bit to nice maybe to be real?), Performance numbers are SPOT ON. They hit the POH precisely. Sound is very good.
    To me the TBM850 with the PMS50 or the TDS is the much more complete package. Also the more analogue nature of the TBM keeps you more engaged with the engine, bleed air management etc.
    Btw: Both FSR and Black Square are one man shows. ;)

    • @JohnVanderbeck
      @JohnVanderbeck Місяць тому

      The TBM 850 is 100% my most flown aircraft in the sim. It is such a perfect combination of nearly everything I want. Speed, range, ceiling, avionics, cockpit layout, autopilot. Pretty much everything. My only complaint is the view isn't as good as something like a PC-12 (or of course on overhead wing). I use it with the Garmin 750 and fly in VR. IT is so perfect. I could wish for a larger GPS, so it would be easier to view charts, but that's about it.
