I say this on every video Gilbert is on, but that's because I REALLY mean it. It's not said in jest. Gilbert is a national treasure, and I'm blessed to live in a time when he can be so accessible to me. His humor has gotten me through the roughest parts of my life and taught me the extreme importance of irreverence in the face of challenge. Hes an unapologetic habitual line stepper, and I simply love him.
How the hell is Gilbert Gottfried not "notable" enough to be on Wikipedia's 1955 birth list and 2022 death list. He's significant within the comedy world! Add him to the lists! Rest in Peace.
I think his wife looked into the documentary because she knew about his health and his time may be coming and wanted this project done. RIL (rest in laughter), Gilbert. There's no peace around Gilbert. 🙏💖
@@JasonNation72 Well, he did make a mistake. He clearly didn't realize Aflac did a huge portion of their business in Japan. He put the company in a terrible position unnecessarily.
The Offended Olympics of today are the hypocritical posturing necessary to hide horrible deeds done in the shadows, while the extent of the objectionable about Gilbert is just words, whitin the evidence of a noble life.
Greatest Howard Stern Show guest of all time and it's what made me fall in love with this man.:D It's sad the way they just turned their backs on him over there.
Yeah his racist, sexist joke that he repeated over and over and over again sure is missed, I love gilbert and I have no problem with racist or sexist jokes, I'm just telling the truth.
I lost my husband in 2020 and our relationship “an odd couple” looked very similar and wonderful as Dara & Gilbert! My husband was full off colorful language for me! He coined the term GIFFY… stands for “go fuck yourself” I heard it often 😂 This interview was incredible! Thank you!
Great movie 🍿!!!! It was a heartwarming story about a comedy legend. Now I listen to Gilbert Gottfried’s amazing colossal podcast just to hear how funny and brilliant he is as a comic.
He just did a bit in Westport MA. Who the fuck goes there? Lololol. It was imcredible. He was so humble and we all loved him. A working class hero is something to be.
How old is Gilbert? He hasn't aged too well, but I still think he's a hoot!!! So glad he seems happy, finally. His wife is not only pretty, but seems to really adore him and looks after him. Too bad Stern couldn't get past his pettiness and been a part of this homage to his old friend.
Is that a two way glass where people outside can't see in, but people on the inside can see everybody on the outside going about their business? By the way, I love Gilbert!
Today is January 26, 2023 and Gilbert has been gone since last April. I don’t know why your death has had such a strong impact on me, but it has. Perhaps it’s because of the courage that you’ve demonstrated through life. Whether you like it or not, you were a role model for many of us. I will continue to listen to the amazing colossal podcast in spite of the void that you’re passing his left. I think you for the many years of entertainment that you provided us. And so I will quote the great Kurt Vonnegut, and say to you, my dearly departed friend, “go take a flying fuck at a rolling donut“ ;-) :-)! Peace.
Gilbert is a good role model. He doesnt have a big ego so he doesnt get offended easily. Everybody should try to be like Gilbert, especially those SJW snowflakes these days that get offended by everything and make a comedians life miserable.
How guys like Robin Williams,Jim Carrey and Gilbert turned it off and on--from private to public persona is amazing--and must have characteristics of schizophrenia. Not sure about how Sam Kinison was in private or I'd throw him in the group too.Johnny Carson and David Letterman as well.
His sister with the short hair used to liver where I worked in lower Manhattan when I was 18,19 and 20 and I was doing all the stand up clubs I could. I ran into him 1 night on the street. I swear he was completely not in character I wasn’t even 100% sure it was him but I had heard his sister lived there. He was wearing that same comics live jacket so I asked him if he had any advice for a young comic. He gave me a few things and I thanked him and went on my way. But he really was shy I gues
Having just watched the documentary, I thought it was complete bs how gilbert got his life turned upside down for a couple jokes he made on Twitter. Alot of people, myself included turn to humor as a way to cope with scary and sad situations, I'm sure that what he was doing too. Maybe if he would have waited a bit to tell the jokes it wouldn't have been so bad but he didn't deserve what he got.
I like how they just glossed over him saying something serious like how "Jim Carrey couldn't do it because he was on trial for killing his ex-girlfriend" and didn't even try to correct him. His ex-girlfriend died by suicide
This interviewer is a typical lap dog of the leftist establishment who wants to keep his job and therefore makes the requisite derogatory remarks about the president; very original! Gilbert, on the other hand, does not just talk the talk, but has walked (literally, since it's cheaper) the walk to the point of losing endorsement deals and other opportunities rather than bow to pressure. Gilbert has long been one of my favourites and will continue to be so.
Jesus, watch whenever Dara answers a question...she stares lovingly at Glibert as she answers. It is either very romantic or totally batshit crazy. She is obsessed with him. Is that love?
Which is a shame that she loves him more than he loves her b/c the other way around works best...ya know, since her man is out fondling breasts when he sees the opportunity. Go hear what Wendy Williams just said. He is forever banned from her show. Apparently he felt Oprah's breasts too, as he told Wendy.
You should realize that Gilbert was still partially in character during filming of the doc. His real voice slipped out now and again. He is extremely guarded.
Audiences love quirky so I'm sure that worked in Gilbert's favor. If he was some blue eye blond Adonis he'd have a less successful career or totally different.
I generally like Gilbert. But I've heard Gilbert rationalize cases of over indulging himself at others' hurt or offense and it still sounds to me like he's rationalizing his own attacks like any attacker does. He simply flips it and accuses people who point it out of the self-aggendizement. If consideration might be different with different people, if you could have a comic trying to be edgy with a secret sensitive philosophy, a flat outlook of inconsideration seems more likely meant to serve ones own career in pop. art and entertainment. Who's supposed to believe it as a flat out rule?
Truth is, though he rationalized that such a joke is meant to make people feel better, when he did the Empire State Bldg. joke, most didn't laugh, so he did the old standard Aristocrats joke to get them back. Such rationalizations seem just self-indulgent--not like normal consideration. I like him very much sometimes, but often for an infectious laugh or sound. Material isn't always his strongest thing. I don't buy that rationalization. It's not real.

I love how Dara genuinely thinks Gilbert is funny. True Love.
It is very sweet, but let's be honest, he is F'ing hilarious!!
How the hell is Gilbert Gottfried not "notable" enough to be on Wikipedia's 1955 birth list and 2022 death list. He's significant within the comedy world!

Of course he's notable. He'll be added to both lists in good time.
Really great film. Dara is amazing. The kids are precious, and their relationship with their dad tells us the truth behind the veneer.
I watched Gilbert religiously as a teenager on Up All Night and always listened to him on Howard Stern. Dracula Gottfried will always be my favorite.

Gilbert hits the nail on the head regarding the 'offended' people. They're narcissistic and want to put on a show of how holier than thou they are.

Gilbert should tour the UK; his humour is our humour. We can separate reality from offensiveness at the theatre entrance...bravo!
He passed away years ago
“Gilbert’s somewhere between Mark Twain and a birthday clown.”
