      As bad as CA governance is at least we got prop 13, which limits how much property taxes can go up per year, without it majority of homeowners would be paying $12,000 plus a year in property taxes. Many of us couldn’t afford to sell our house and buy our neighbors house.

      Less people is just how we like it. It's funny, only big city people see the benefits of more people coming into the area. They cite more money coming into the state as being the "great reason" to invite all comers here. Truth is, it's taken more money out of the pockets of the people who have been here for decades. You transplants have raised our rent, raised our cost of living, raised crime and homelessness, raised the numbers on people with mental health issues, and reduced the amounts of already limited medical/community resources we have here in the state. Transplants are a drain on this state. There's a 100% justifiable reason for us not wanting people to move here. You reduce the quality of life for people who are already here and have been since before it became cool to "move to Idaho." If that hurts people's feelings......we don't care.

    • @Drifter20

      It’s not a big state. If you take away all the government and agricultural land which obviously is not for purchase it’s a small state.

    What is currently happening in the Boise valley is one of the saddest things I have ever seen. Greed like no other greed has gripped the area and wealthy developers are creating a hodgepodge of HOA neighborhoods, which to me reek of socialism. The prices for all homes have become unaffordable to the average Idahoan, and if you are planning on renting then let me fill you in on what has happened. Huge corporate property management companies have taken over the entire scene and are setting the bar for the price of rentals. Of coarse they are out of reach for the average person unless you want to live in a rat hole. Traffic you ask? lol, Don't even go there. All in all, I think unless you are super rich and just have to live here, I would go someplace else.

    • @JorgeGarcia-lw7vc
      @JorgeGarcia-lw7vc 6 місяців тому +1

      It's funny because I can't stand HOA's and have always seen them as products of ultra greedy, economically conservative initiatives able to circumvent the protections provided by the law and the state. To see them as socialist, when they are a very capitalist-corporatist creation is just bonkers. Btw, I can't stand communism, and I find it crazy how sometimes the restrictions created by that very messed up system can meet up and resemble by its ultra capitalist counterparts when left unchecked. Tell the folks in Boise to ban HOAs.

      To that note, the reason most people are moving back to their states is because of how greedy they got and went way over their means so when the company they're working for realize they now work in a right to work state and can lower their wages to the cost of living in Idaho and that $40/hr pillow cushion turns into a $18.50/hr cold metal bench, they realize they've been living hundreds of not thousands of dollars over what they should have intellectually budgeted.
      Sadly only 6 or 7 years ago $16/hr in the valley could support you a family and a home. You need twice that now for the same basic privilege

    Boise winter - extreme, ha. Growing up in the greater Boise area the winters, except for 2017, snowmagedon, have been minor. Move north to central idaho and deal with 5-6 months of winter, then you can say it is extreme in Idaho, but down there in the Treasure Valley, meh. One winter issue in the Treasure Valley though is when the inversions hit and you don't see the sun for weeks on end. That is when a drive up to Bogus Basin to ski and get above the inversion is a must!

    If home schooling is popular there, does that mean people can have Day Cares as business's in their backyards? Unfortunately, here in Vegas (even in an HOA where you arent supposed run a business out of your house), this happens. Ive read about Idaho and researched it, but this would probably be one of my biggest questions. Oh! also wondering about the property tax question that someone else in the replies asked. Is it common for them to frequencly raise property taxes? For a senior that could be a problem.Great video btw!

    • @EricaToffel
      @EricaToffel  2 місяці тому +1

      I am sure you find daycares in some neighborhoods but we don’t see a lot of it. Some families share in homeschooling responsibilities so children may move around to different homes depending on day or subject. But they also teach lessons out in the community, exploring farms, sites and more. If you are homeschooled, you are able to participate in zoned school’s extracurricular activities.

    • @EricaToffel
      @EricaToffel  2 місяці тому +1

      Property taxes can fluctuate, largest increase I’ve seen came after COVID. The taxing district develops a budget to fund vital services for that community. When the cost of those services go up, just as everything has recently, then unfortunately taxes can go up as well.
      But, I have seen property taxes, go down too so it’s not always up up up.

    Despite the size of the state, Idaho is sparsely populated. Idaho is indeed a big state, but it has a lack of big cities like other more populated states. Boise is the largest city in the state and it lacks the feel of a big city. the northern part of Idaho a.k.a. the panhandle is in the Pacific Time Zone while the rest of the state including Boise is in the Mountain Time Zone.

    If you are a new-comer, be sure try to avoid coming off as a know-it-all.
    One example is hunting. Listen to what people say on the topic and try to learn. If you are not a fan of hunting, after listening you likely won't become a hunter, but you'll have a more nuanced view of it and understand and appreciate why people hunt.
    Another thing to keep in mind is that what passes for conservative in rural areas does not necessarily overlap with what conservative is in suburban areas.
    Finally, if you do move to a rural area, or even a smaller city, don't be surprised that you lose your anonymity. Unlike suburbia around a big city, you will see the same people over and over again.
