- How to fix an electric awning that doesn't fully retract. A step by step instructional video.
In this video I show you how to repair & adjust a carefree electric awning that will not fully retract. The only tools needed are a set Allen keys and a Phillip head screw driver.
To do this job, you will need to take off the front cover located at the drivers end of the awning. This will give you access to the two Allen key adjusting screws under the cover.
The top screw adjusts how far the awning will go out. The lower screw will adjust how far the awning will retract in.
This video follows my earlier video showing how to wind an electric awning in manually

This was the first video that popped up on my UA-cam search - and it was also the first and only video I watched! Your video solved our issue THANK YOU!
Thanks Caroline. Glad you liked my video and glad it helped you fix your awning. Safe travels. 😃👍
Same here the first search was your two vids.Saved me a lot of time I bet.Hey 10 minutes ago I was clueless hahaha
This video worked out great! I wish it were the first video that popped up-perhaps Carefree in the title. Very thankfull!
Glad it helped and thanks for the kind feedback. 😃👍
Fantastic! Thank you! We, too, had the exact same issue while on a long trip. I cranked it in as you did to about 99% and drove home without issue. I will do this fix asap.
Glad you were also able to wind your awning in manually and get home with any drama. Nice to know my video helped. Safe travels 😃👍
This video was such help we have one of the care free awnings on our awning and it before I found this video our awning would go out but sometimes would come back in but other times would not sometimes it would get stuck in the out position.
Glad my video helped you 😃👍Thanks for stopping by 😃
An another nice upload, just great presentation, very informative, thanks for sharing dear. All the best. Have a wonderful day, see you soon again. Many Greetings and Regards, take care of you.
Great job my friend, many thanks for sharing👌👌have a lovely weekend
Thank you. Hope all is well for you both. 😃👍
Thanks for your information. How did you think this got out of sync in the first place.
Hi Ron. Not sure what made it go out of sinc. Maybe I over extended it somehow. Good to know how to wind it in manually and readjust it as well. Been working good for a year now. 😃👍
Great job! Looks like you've successfully fixed it! Nice drone footage at the end!
Thanks bud Appreciate your constant support 😃👍
Thanks I have the same issue.Used 3/8 to get back in and extracted it out half way.Still out 8 inch.Glad you did this follow up vid on adjusting.
What makes them go out of adjustment I wonder?
Well that 5/32 Allen screw is loose as a goose.
Glad you got it sorted & that my video helped. Safe travels 😃👍
@@TropicalZooms I’d think that adjuster screw would have a tighter fit.Neeeds a set nut or something. Thanks
@@2hotscottpro Yeh. They’re flimsy little awnings. So glad I bought the antiflap bars for it. So much stronger with the antiflap kit too. 😃
@@TropicalZooms thanks I’m looking into those now!
Excellent information my friend ! Always enjoy your videos name the drone footage was a nice bonus . Hope you are doing well and you are getting a break from the flooding . Thanks for sharing
Thanks mate. The rain has finally eased over here although lots of our areas on the north coast have had towns that have been completely destroyed by the water. I really worry about the state of our world lately. 🥲
Handyman. Good and Lucky you manager to wind itby hand, otherwise it would be weird driving back home 😃
Thanks bud Yeh I was lucky to have the tools on me to fix it too. Thanks for your constant support 😃👍
that is a really informative video! Thanks for teaching us about the awning😀
Thanks so much for the kind feedback and thanks for watching 😃👍
Excellent video and have a similar issue. Thank you for taking the time to share your results and develop an excellent video to demonstrate the solution. Do you mind sharing where you found the instructions to adjust the extension and retraction as I have a slightly different model?
Hello mate. I googled it and UA-camd it searching for carefree & foams awning repairs. It lead me to a few different websites which all had similar instructions about the two screws within the awning. It was really trial and error for me to see which screw did what and if it would actually work for me. When I saw that my method was successful I thought it’d be good to share for others who may find themselves in the same situation. Thanks for stopping by and best of luck to you 😃👍
Thank you for this video, just wondering who is a carefree dealer in Australia
I had a bit of a search around and couldn’t find anyone. Ended up sorting out this problem myself. 😃
Wonderful Helpful Idea, SO EASY !
Yeh. It was great to be able to fix it myself. 😃👍
Excellent work keep doing this

Thanks so much. Really nice of you. 😃👍
Some great information my friend 👍
I have the same awning for my Jayco Terrrain 19Y camper van. When I try to extend the awning, the motor just keeps turning, what do you think I can do with those nuts on the end that will help it to move along?
Not sure about that one. I know that there are small plastic teeth in some of the gear wheels. I think I’d try to wind it out manually and see if it extends that way. (With the 5/8 ratchet connection)
.wao.. you have shared very well, this is a very cool automatic device, I really like it, I am vietnamese, very happy to make friends and exchange, hope you do not refuse, thanks, best wishes you succeed
Thanks so much. Really appreciate your support 😃👍

Thanks so much. Really appreciate your support 😃👍
about to go and adjust my awning. What size allen key?
Sorry mate. I can’t remember. I can only say it’s smallish.
@@TropicalZooms No worries. I took several and guessed the right one on the first try. Got it fixed, thank to your video. Saved me a trip to the shop. Have an amazing day!
@@sfahrens Great news mate. I usually guess the Allen key size and get it right on about my 10th go so your way ahead of me. Glad you got your awning sorted & great to know my video helped. Safe travels mate. 😃👍
I adjust mine and after using it a few times i have to readjust it again to make it sit flush.
I’ve been lucky with mine. Only had to do it the once. I think I over extended the first time causing it to get out of adjustment
5/32 Allen
