  • As sellers, we are all looking for the answers - how to make many sales with as little effort as possible. Sometimes we are searching for that one thing that will take us over the top and sometimes we will believe what many on UA-cam tell us that may have worked for them but simply do not work for us. It can get frustrating however the answers are right in front of us and many continue to ignore it. Check out the video and comment down below...

My total selling expenses are around 25% which includes shipping labels, ebay fees, and sales taxes. This does not include shipping supplies, returns, warehouse rent. Sometimes I feel like I'm working my ass off for somebody else.

Sorry Jon i have to disagree on your take on the youtuber who increased sales by turning off promoted listings as being an invalid tactic. This is just as valid ( or useless) as any other strategy. Glad to hear you admit to being guilty of similar, as you have made the same claims by touting a host of other "magic bullets" such as turning off international shipping, selling similar, switching to same day shipping, and on and on. Bottom line there is no magic bullet and I for one am tired of getting jerked around by youtubers who claim they have stumbled on THE solution to increase sales only to have it sooner rather than later fall flat. Just my two cents. Don't worry, I still love your channel and content!

    • @FlippinAintEasy
      @FlippinAintEasy  Рік тому +9

Yet Val, I continue to make sales. I stopped using eBay International Shipping, I have a weekly end item/sell similar process (these items become new listings and get a new item boost in search), and switching to same day shipping vs a 3 day handling time (the algorithm prefers a listing using same day). None of these things are "magic bullets" but are components of doing what works within the system in place. I am not the UA-camr that will be dishonest about my sales numbers and I have no problem showing you guys my successes and my failures.
I am sorry you put me in the category of UA-camrs jerking you around without showing my numbers. I will put out a post showing the numbers and allow you to decide. 6 months of strong sales without anything falling flat and I can prove it. And I only mention these things to you because to me my integrity means more to me than this channel or any video I post.

I'm going to cherry pick two things. If you don't think that promoted listings doesn't work; you should consider selling something else or upping it to at most 5%. Also, not ending your listings 15 days in and selling similar is probably the worst mistake you can make besides selling crap items. Im not a reseller, im a business owner. Thats how I treat this, dont sell crap, promote your listings, list every day or every other day, end and sell similar.

I am not in any way implying that you were disingenuous or not correctly representing the results you achieved with the techniques you use. Just saying that while this may work for some resellers, it doesn't always work for others, or work to the same level of success. A whole lot of other factors come into play, as you say. As they say in advertising "Results may vary" is as good caveat to keep in mind. Cheers!

@@valjohn912 i think we can all agree that eBay is a constantly evolving platform. Can you make money selling smaller items at a lower ASP? Yes but it’s not as easy as it once was. The trend seems to be moving towards higher ASP items. Remember, I have another larger store where I am selling the very same low ASP items that I sold last year and the results are night and day different from my smaller main store.

I will say this, I tried something about 6 days ago because i noticed that my promoted traffic dropped one day 25% and consistantly stayed that way for about a week. What i tried is simply ended my promotions campaign, and made a new one, and wouldn't you know it my promoted impressions went back to normal and has stayed that way since. Now this could all be meaningless because my sales have been decent even with the decreased traffic, so it may even be that the traffic they show you is glitched.
I don't know about anyone else by my sales have been absolutely horrible today, actually wouldn't have even had a sale today if i didn't send out a bunch of offers. Only had one bite, but beats a blank i guess

I do notice a huge drop in item impressions since around July 16th. While we will never know the answer, it suspect that they "fixed" the impressions to reflect the actual number of impressions. I have heard many say how their impressions have fallen. Mine have and I continue to make sales.
As for resetting the promoted listings campaign, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing things like this because we know eBay has had and will continue to have technical issues. Being proactive is one way to navigate around these problems.

Just reopened my account after long period of time. Starting from scratch, but I'm actually happy about that. Clean slate as they say. Thinned out a lot of things from old inventory and I'm being very picky about what I'm restocking with. If items aren't in near new condition or a vintage item I know a lot about, I'm just not going to buy them. Listing same or next 48 hours, so that I won't have that death pile to deal with has become very important to me as space has become an issue as well. May God bless you all mightily.

On the International shipping front, when the new program started in earnest, my sales drop significantly. I opted out for several months and my sales seemed to level out. I opted back in two weeks ago and so far I have no opinion. My sales didn't do down, but I'm not selling a lot either. Before I used to sell International items at least a few a day before. We'll see. The other thing to know is that Cassini changes very often. Figuring out something that helps today, may not help next month. It's also good to know that the first full year after Cassini's introduction Ebay's profits dropped like a rock and hasn't recovered significantly since. Now that would lead me to remove or improve Cassini if I were in charge, but that's just me apparently! :P Item specifics is a rat hole that Ebay just will not back away from. More is not better. You only need a few specifics not hundreds.

I am constantly going back and looking at my listings to see if I need to make adjustments to something title, price etc. Pricing can change monthly on items and what started competitively can all of a sudden put you on page 30 next month due to market fluctuations. With promoted I only promote items there are tons of similar ones to mine. If I am selling something there are only 4 of on ebay I feel there is no need to promote. It is no different than a regular store, things must be done to maintain it and keep it fresh and up to date including clearing out the old stuff. But this summer ebay has had a lot of problems itself making it that much harder to figure out.

When you do this process you get a new item boost for a short period of time which is a fact. If you don't believe me, try it on one of your items, then on another browser, do a search for your item on eBay. It will have a new listing tag. I only report what works for me to give sellers ideas they too can try for themselves.
By the way, where are you finding this data that somehow end item/sell similar is clogging up the servers and costing eBay extra money. And while you are at it, let me know where to find the data to show how much money as well. Please don't kid yourself, the increase in fees to the seller is mostly driven by a loss of sales on the site year over year and the ever increasing fees are made to make up for that. I have no defects .. my items sell on other platforms so I’m upset with eBay because of the subscriptions i pay .. we pay for a reason, to get seen !!

      I am in Orlando.
I have found the same geographic trend. Sales from East of the Mississippi and Texas are dominant.
Maybe once a week, I will get a few within a couple of hours from the West Coast. California and Washington used to be a big part of my sales.
Red state sales dominate over Blue states most days.
Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, etc.
One day a couple of weeks ago, I had 4 sales going to Arkansas. Arkansas??
They were all within 80 miles of each other. Now, that is odd.

Ebay algorithm is a trip man. I used to sell a legit item, kept raising the price higher n higher n higher, kept selling. Pretty soon it was so expensive, buyers were getting pissed off when it arrived because for some reason the started thinking it was a whole big item when it was only a sample. Thats all it ever was, samples of an item. Clearly titled, descripted, pictured. WHen the price was super high, they would automatically think it was a whole big item and since thousands had bought it when it was cheap, the item showed thousands bought it, so buyers would just buy it before reading. So many people started buying the item, it just took off like crazy with a bunch of non readers. Then I would also put 2 for the remaining quantity so then most buyers would buy the last 2. Then the buyer was really really pissed that they bought 2 when it arrived. LOL. Super wierd, I was breaking no rules, ebay usually would side with me. Algorithm loving it some how. It pushed my item to the top of ebays pages. I had 97% positive rating, that was the only item that was super crazy at my store.

So about a week ago, I went into my secondary account, the one with about 600 listings and opted back into eBay International Shipping, I also removed promoted listings from these listings as well. 4 days straight, not one sale. Turned promoted back on and opted out of EIS, and 4 sales in 2 days. It is difficult to know what the culprit is when you are adjusting two different things at once but for me, I am promoting most listings and opting out of EIS. International shipping only made a very small percentage of my sales anyway.

I have a question. I’ve done all the things I should be doing, I have 100% feedback as a buyer but haven’t sold anything yet so I don’t have any feedback as a seller yet. My listings have been up about 6 months. Optimized, etc. My items are mostly popular, name brand on trend ladies clothes, cosmetics & perfumes I got as presents but won’t use and some NFL & baseball hats my husband got as gifts but also won’t use. I’m wondering if it’s because I have 0 feedback as a seller?

    • @1955Chevy
      @1955Chevy 4 місяці тому +1

I don't think your 0% feedback rating is too much of a problem as most people will buy an item if they really want it. 6 months is a LONG time to not have made a single sale though.
How are your pricing? Are you pricing your items at fair market value in relation to other similar items currently being sold by other Sellers? Have you checked "Sold" items by other Sellers to get an idea of what buyers had paid for similar items to yours? For example... if a pair of designer blue jeans sold for $15, you dont want to be listing yours for $30 for obvious reasons.
How about views? On your Seller's portal you can see how many people have "viewed" your item(s), as well as how many "watchers" have bookmarked it for potential purchase. If you're not getting any viewers, then it could be something with your item Title not attracting buyer attention or maybe the item itself is not in demand. If no "watchers" then it's definitely an item not so much in current demand, or pricing is too high in relation to similar items by other Sellers.
The list goes on and on for reasons of low / slow sales. It's insanely frustrating at times, for sure.
The bottom line though is that "inventory and pricing" is key... you need good inventory items, lots of it, and competitively lower pricing to make consistant sales. Put yourself in a Buyer's frame of mind... thinking about what attracts your attention when you're browsing for stuff on eBay... think about how much you'd be willing to pay for it, what kind of pictures you'd like to see of a particular item in the listing etc.
I seriously wish you the best of luck... yes, it's frustrating, but keep doing your best! 👍

A couple of basic questions about sending offers...
I know 5 percent is the minimum you can do. I normally just do that on most offers. If an item has been listed longer, do you take a higher percentage off?
Also, do you have counter offers turned on or off?
Finally, do you include a personal message with your offer or not?
Thanks so much. I enjoy your channel.

    • @FlippinAintEasy
      @FlippinAintEasy  Рік тому +3

Great question Kevin. Yes, I start at 5% and while that doesnt seem like much of an offer, I know from experience that many times when I send any offer on an item shortly thereafter if it sells it is usually to someone else at full asking price (this tells me there is a boost in the algorithm for making offers). When an item has been up for sale for awhile and I have a chance to make an offer on an item, I will get much more aggressive. I will see what I am into the item for and make an offer with sometimes 20-25% discount to move the item. I have a message I created that I have saved in notepad on my computer and on my phone. When I send offers, I will copy paste that into the message field.

17 years on eBay full time. Only income. About three weeks ago my sales died. Just zero. For the first time in 17 years I have no business and I’m quickly going bankrupt. Tried everything. Can’t compete against the Chinese offerings that are basically knockoffs of what I sell. They rule search and can ship to you for less from mainland China. Not sure what’s next. I woke up and realized I’m too old for a job. Scary. Yes, I’m old.

For me, eBay is dead. Not sure what’s next. Poshmark is cookie jar money. FB, I just don’t get it. Years in and I have a FB shop that no one ever, ever visits. Tried posting, boosting, ads and more. Nada. My product is half the price of Amazon . The only sales I make now are droppshippers selling my stuff on Amazon. They get me to ship it while offering their customers my Free Returns. Wish I never started this stuff. EBay lies about limiting returns from buyers who take advantage. Bald faced lie. I have one “buyer” who did about 25 returns in a couple months.

    Who are our prime customers?
The answer could shed some light on why our items are selling or not selling.
The answer is probably those who are not hurt too bad by our current economy.
I am in the "baby boomer" generation.
A lot of boomers are doing okay. We have retirement income, investments and probably a house or two with lots of equity. Add in a side hustle reselling and we have more than enough to be comfortable.
Before the pandemic most people worked hard and had some spendable income.
The pandemic years transitioned to stay home and receive government handouts.
So much money was given away it contributed to the inflation we have today.
People got lazy but out of necessity that is changing.
Remember, there were no evictions, so many stopped paying rent or mortgages.
Individual landlords lost a ton of money also with no rent.
    Credit card debt increased.
    Now, what did we expect?
Want items go to the back burner.
Things that we consume, break or wear out are on the front burner.

Joe was just letting people know about his experience with turning off promoted listings for a day. He wasn’t advising anyone to stop promoting. Myself I NEVER promote and I never look at impressions or page views. I could care less about any of that. I sell on ebay and Amazon and between the 2 I do about $17,000 every month. Stop sourcing crap and you won’t have to promote at all. Anyway I trust Joe more than most of the other “Resellers”, and I use that term loosely, here on UA-cam. At least he doesn’t have sponsors that he is beholden to.

That was from the 5:50 mark in the video you are referring to which goes against your statement. Now I made a point not to mention Joe or any channel specifically because I have nothing against Joe whatsoever as he is a straight shooter.
As for sponsorships, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a few sponsors to support a channel provided there is some benefit to the viewer. The ones we take on offer a discount to those who CHOOSE to use their services or products.
Bottom line TimberKing, if you don't appreciate the content that I put out, if it somehow offends you or if you don't see me or my content as genuine, maybe this isn't the right channel for you. I certainly wouldn't waste my time watching someone I do not trust.

I know what's causing me not to get positive feedback on items sold on eBay, (and I have 100% positive feedback and am a Top-rated Seller) is: I sell high-end jewelry and eBay has decided that any New jewelry over $500 should go to their eBay authentication station in California and Then On to the buyer, which takes at least 2 weeks on average (and this was before the Christmas season) and when it really comes down to it, the majority of buyers have no patience.. and they want their stuff yesterday.. and how soon they get their jewelry is more important to them than the item being authenticated. So, ever since eBay started this authentication process, I receive maybe 1 positive feedback out of 10, whereas I had no problem receiving positive feedbacks before. And, in regards to item specifics, the majority of item specifics are lame... over half what eBay requires for item specifics is ridiculous, like having to tell the buyer which part of the ear the earring is to go into... seriously?! I just don't bother with item specifics.. it's like eBay thinks we're dealing with children!

Best price, Best listing, accurate and neat, FREE Postage, FREE returns, give the buyer everything they ask for if they want FREE dinner with it then you give it to them lol (maybe not the free dinner but it does feel like that)

Ok so here's my far fetched theory..... We try so hard to understand things like SEO, the algorithm, how to best use the tags and descriptions and all the other bells and whistles. However, a human had to write those programs or thought about adding things to the existing programs. Humans are also jaded and flawed. If "I were a Human at eBay writing these programs" I would get pissy about sellers listing items and expecting "eBay" to sell those items for the seller. SO......I think that eBay wants you to participate in your own store. You need to list, ship, send offers, answer messages, update pricing and add item specifics etc. everyday. Those store interactions on the sellers part I feel are important. Of course having great items and great prices trumps all, but I think eBay wants seller to "fight for it" a little and work their stores without letting items just sit there.
I started doing international shipping a few months ago, I've had like 4 sales. Logic would dictate that if you open your store to international buyers you will have more views and more sales.

It’s easy to just sit here and say people are doing things right to sell and then crying about it, but that’s not always the case. I research everything before i list, price competitive and fill out all specifics. I go days with no views watchers or sales then all of a sudden start selling between 10-15 things a day and then it stops again as fast as it started. That’s not organic.
