Absolutely. But the sound especially in the slow motion scenes is exceptional as well. A lot of people overlook how much work it is to get the sound design right. And Rob is killing it here too 🙂
I've got a 2021 Decoy and it's an absolute beast. Best bike. I've ever owned. I've crashed it like 5 times pretty heavy and not a scratch on it. Couldn't be happier.
One of the best reviews out there you motivated me to get the 720, I have a decoy and just love it the bike is super fun and lets you send it deep into the gnarl 🤘
Agree with everything you've said here Rob about the way the bike handles. YT have done a great job of making a chassis which feels playful and responsive in the tight stuff, but somehow has the frame stiffness and geometry to inspire confidence on the big features and fast rough sections too. I hate flexy back ends on bikes, and thankfully the YT has plenty of frame stiffness which makes it feel amazing in the corners and on jumps. I does want to wheelie on the climbs though, but who cares.
I'm on the second generation YT Decoy and I'm still very happy with how this bike performs! ON the first Decoy of 2019, I had a problem related to the Shimano motor, but that was changed at a local Shimano dealer service, under warranty. Now I own the 2022 Decoy core 2 model bought at an extraordinary price of 4200 euros and paired with a 720wh battery. The people at YT are very good at the moment on the customer support side and I see that lately they are very open to customer requests! Congratulations Rob for the video - always the best!
Amazing how the Decoy is still handling its own without any updates to frame Geometry since the 2nd gen. I run my duck with a Push 11/6 coil shock and was lucky enough to land a 720Wh battery. All things considered, would put this up against just about any emtb out there. Excellent points Rob about attributes that make certain characteristics better can have a negative impact on other attributes. I choose to ride the Decoy when riding techy trails and all mountain/Enduro type rides. Even after settings up a Yeti 160e for more trail/ascending rides and customizing my Spesh Kenevo with an upgraded Boxxer kit and EXT E-STORIA coil shock, I find myself gravitating to the Decoy for its aforementioned riding traits! Currently eyeing the new 2023 Orbea Wild or Canyon Spectral:Onnn CFR to add to my stable. Can't wait to see how all the new innovations play out over the next few years! Happy Trails, and keep those vids coming Rob!
Another banger vid, Rob! Cracking camera work, great description of the pros and cons. Great that they now do the 720wh battery.. If they're in stock!! 👌🏻🙌🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Well done! Decoy frame update should be nice when they incorporate the bigger battery flush and fully integrated to frame profile! YT can engineer both low CG and aesthetics with the 720Wh. 🤙
Thanks for another great eBike review....It's interesting, being as tall as you are, that you still find benefit in the Mullet setup with the 27.5 in the rear! I really appreciate your takes on the bikes you review. Cheers!
I'm thinking about getting this as my first EMTB. I've considered a few others such as the Canyon Spectral On, Carbon Levo, Cannondale (can't find a lot of info on these) but I like the overall looks of the YT. Just want something that's playful and fun.
I had a gen 1 Decoy and ended up buying a spare battery. I have a Levo now but I have to say that the Duck was bomb proof for the most part. The only issues I had were with the original E8000 motor that had bearing issues after 5000 miles or so but YT warrantied the motor. Also the crank arm interface sucked and the cranks would come loose on occasion. The frame held up well and the bike was so much fun to ride.
I have the all 29’r but I threw an X2 on the back and bumped the fork up to 160. Ride it in the high position and this bike absolutely crushes. Finally bought the 720wh battery and have yet to test it but this bike rages. I don’t care about the EP8 rattle because I listen to music when I ride. The bike doesn’t handle DH like a Yeti but loves to go fast through light chunder and flow. A one up dropper and Saint quad pistons step the bike up dramatically. Cushcore… double downs… 2.3 rotors… the bike slays. If you’re on the fence, just do it already. Ride is sick.
I've been trying for months to get a couple 720 batteries. Hopefully, next month. I got a core 2, and I just bought an ultimate coil for it. Once our 8 feet of snow goes away, here we will see how it goes.
I have a 2019 Decoy (e8000) coming up to 4 years old and 15k kilometres all on top level Enduro tracks (Scottish Borders). It is a great bike to ride and I would have another but to be honest will probably go for a Bosch motor next time. The lack of rebuild capability on the Shimano is a bit crap. Since to opening of the UK support centre customer service has been great.
Wow, we live in a time where a Canyon Strive size M has almost the same reach (485mm) as a YT Decoy size XXL (489mm). Great job bike industry! (Yes I know that reach is only one factor when selecting a bike fit, but it still makes size allocations confusing)
Great video Rob ! I drive a Decoy 29er on Marzocchi Coil, Fox 38 and the 720 battery with Dowhnhill tires myself and am still thrilled by the performance at 25 kilos cool would be similar video on the same trail with the Orbea Wild 2023 non race motor as a comparison.
I have the core 2 and the rear end suspension is superb on the lower end build as well. Combined with a Smashpot on the Zeb Select the sus is really, really good.
That seattube hight is related to the xxl frame. I am 183cm and still I ride it in L and love it. That fork has not enough LS compression combined with very slow rebound or you had not enough airpressure... its crazy low in travel all the time in this video hence your need for a higher rise handlebar.
I am in love with my decoy mx4.. its very playfull in corners and jumps specialy when you put the switch in high, what would be great if you would be speak about the switch in this video. anyway is a dreamy bike and a great content u do in this video ;)
Ah Rob, speaking as a mountain biker of 40 years, (Keith Bontrager, Hans 'No Way'), I remember when down hillers were looking at 26 inch front, 24 inch rear to reduce the unsprung weight. Mind you, my first Rocshok Judy was an elasometer fork with 60mm of travel on an Orange P7, circa 1994, mostly turned to cheese now. Anyone got medium lasto stacks for my fork?.
Is this actually an updated model or just the model from 2021 with the larger battery? I don’t see any other modifications (including color) from the 2021 Core 4. Thanks!
The YT's are awesome bikes when they came out, but are getting slightly dated, the shimano ep8 is kind of a let down too for such a clean ride. you should put a nice white vinyl sticker on that battery, and clean up the lines of that white frame.
Can you ride some of the lightweights over the same gnar and show us the limitations. I have a 2019 COMMENCAL meta 27.5 with arc 40 rims and would like to see if lighter bikes can hold up on your terrain which seems close to what I find in NorCal and Sedona.
Spending your own cash would you pick the YT Decoy over the Focus Jam2 or Sam2? I have the old Jam and love it but thinking of a new bigger travel bike
I bought the YT Decoy Core 5 after watching this review! Also we're the same height so you're a good size reference. 😊 I've been loving how it feels on Squamish single black trails. Like you say, it's such a fun playful bike.
Hi Rob. I noticed that you put riser bars on this and the Canyon Strive on 2023. I can't quite get from the video all the benefits. As I'm stuck between sizes I thought of putting a riser bar on to raise the stack height if I size down but thought it might sorted the reach further. What are your thoughts?
I prefer riser bar to increase stack but maintain reach. A riser bar wont shorten the reach as much as rising the bars on the stem: enduro-mtb.com/en/the-right-mtb-handlebar-rise/
A good read thank you. Once my spinal cord fixes and I sort the 2 prolapsed discs in my neck after going over the handle bars on a warm up run, I'll be good to experiment 🤦
So I went from 30 to 38 and it made it so much better? I don't mess around with 8mm I go to 50mm and do the job properly. However I don't ride down crevasses so 67 deg head angles suit me
Actually the shape, upsweep and backsweep on the replacement bars also suits me preference too, so more than just the 8mm of rise, but yes a 50mm would also have been a good option. 👍 but from the factory the front end was far too low for me.
In the US, neither the Decoy nor the 720 battery is in stock. Also, the stated size of the bike would be more meaningful if you also stated your height.
One thing I hate about my decoy is the knock block headset. Any time I crash, it spins the lock block and allows the fork to smash into the frame. What's the point. Really no reason to design a frame that lacks fork clearance other than for aesthetics, in my opinion. This is really the only complaint I have and wish I had understood this before buying it
With a YT downhill is the fun, and then a Capra is still the better one at that. I love it. Only if it didn't need to go uphill... :) which is why a Decoy makes sense. But this year it doesn't offer anything the competition (Orbea, Canyon, etc) would not - except the looks and the value (at the expense of a sometimes problematic support).
Missing; Balanced and neuters big drops like a dream, Eats steeps and gnar with ease, Like all 50+ lb bikes 2-3 second pre-braking is needed to slow down in the steeps, Heavy a shit to flick into a turn(though I ride a 26er), Geometry allows you so get on it and schread everything without much thought, new battery means it is the best all around enduro out there for the price now. Otherwise great review and cinematography.
@@leedove7255 I would change the geometry so it becomes modern, slacker HA, steeper STA, longer reach, put the new Shimano EP801 in it, and make a new integration of the battery to make it look better, now it looks pretty bad with the big beer belly on the battery and the bulkiness around the motor.
@@Echoes-Pretty comprehensive answer! Fully agree. It doesn’t mean the old one is bad, just a bit dated. I still think it looks stunning with the 540 battery in green or white 👌🏼
@@Echoes- I think the geometry is modern enough. It works great and the push for never ending slacker HA and steeper STA are rapidly coming to the end of the diminishing returns curve. I am sure the next batch will have EP801 as that is what will be supplied from Shimano. I agree with the extra bulk with the battery but it at least makes functional sense to keep the extra weight low. I also do not look at the downtube when riding my bike :-)
Can we just take a minute to appreciate the bloody brilliant camera work in this video 👌
Top notch!
Plus, extra props for the RR rip skilzs...better than many other reviewers, yet still human enough to error and still show it.💪

Also looking at your combo at the moment... Did you sell the 540 batt? or you kept it and still makes sense for you to have it for certain rides? thx
Customer support has to be good these days as the bile industry is still suffering from post Covid fallout.

I am sure that when the 801 is available it will be on the next batch of bikes from YT.
Does the 801 fix the rattle?
So when the battery dies can the bike be used as an analog mtb or do you have to have a charge to use the bike
