    1. Be Safe - But seriously though, don't risk hurting yourself here.
    2. Learn how to Carry a Box - Your back will get messed up if you don't.
    3. Get a healthy amount of sleep - Since there is strain on your muscles, maximizing recovery or rest periods are substantial.
    4. Learn the Sort Table - Stop miss sorting.
    - Watch out for hidden cities.
    5. Learn how to use equipment - It's there for a reason.
    6. Pay attention to Bulk - 70lbs and irregulars. Keep these in check.
    7. Face your work - Not facing the work causes the most injuries.
    8. Eat Enough calories - Your muscles need food to grow!
    9. Easy on the caffeine and sugar - The more caffeine you take in, the more water you'll need.
    10. Get Help when needed - Don't let your ego get in the way of you doing your job.
    11. Watch out for leakers - If a box is dripping, do not touch, leave the area, and notify a supervisor.
    12. Keep an eye on footing + surroundings - This is self explanatory.
    13. Dress appropriately - Clothing that you don't mind getting ruined is fine.
    14. Make friends with your coworkers - Time will go by faster this way.
    15. Bring music - Time will also go by faster this way.
    16. Get sturdy work boots - These are required.
    17. Report any injury - You will be reimbursed if you end up getting hospitalized.
    18. Ask supervisors/coworkers any and all questions needed - Communication is non-existent in these facilities. Make sure you ask all questions!
    19. Know the building layout - In the case of an emergency, you'll know where to go.
    20. Watch out for hub snakes - You'll trip on these.
    21. Keep track of the hours you've worked - Don't get scammed.
    22. Work at a reasonable pace - Why even push yourself for the same pay?
    23. When you need to go to the bathroom, just go
    24. Stay hydrated - H20 is the way to go.
    25. ??? I must've missed one.

    For a supervisor who used to work on blue belt. I would always get every single package in the building since we had a return belt and our belt went to two different areas. We would get our stuff, the stuff that goes to the other area, and the rest of the building with one person to sort through it all. Let's just say tip number 4 isn't my favorite 😂

    I work at UPS and in our center your #6 which you refer to as bulk is called e-regs and overweights. E-regs being anything longer or wider than your arms stretched out. Overweights is anything over 70 lbs and has the overweight tape on it.
    Bulk is multiple packages of the same thing going to the same package car and same shelf number (i.e., 1 of 20 of the same package).

    Bro I just started last week, later tonight will be my 4th day splitting and it kind of sucks, they have me doing it from 4-8 am, THEN go and pick all the blow bye up and put them on the orange carts, meaning I leave at 9 as a part time. Is there anyway to switch to like unloader because thats what I've done all summer. I'm kind of scared I won't lol because I've been getting some "wow youre one of the best splitters I've seen" I DONT WANT TO BE THE BEST I WANNA DO OTHER THINGS!!! I get like 250 a week but now they switched me to bulk loader, which means getting 250-450 boxes per truck, theres 3 trucks and me and another co worker do it. Considering the medical, vision, and dental benefits I think its worth it, plus peak seasons coming so it means more money. As a college freshman, I think this jobs pretty good, except I'm always sleepy lol

    what's it like working the pre-load shift?

    • @AkemiLife
      @AkemiLife  6 років тому +4

      Very hectic since all of the packages that are handled during this shift are delivered the day of. At the same time, people frequently call out during this shift so it's more work as opposed to the night shift. According to my coworkers and supervisors, the order of the shifts from easiest to hardest are night, day, preload, twilight.

    • @matthewcarie6911
      @matthewcarie6911 6 років тому +1

      what's the typical day of pre-load shift? Do you just put boxes on the ups delivering trucks? I have an interview at 5 am so I'm just trying to get a better understanding of everything. Thanks

    • @matthewcarie6911
      @matthewcarie6911 6 років тому +1

      And last question is worth working at UPS if you want to take advantage of the $25,000 towards college? Because I plan on attending a trade program at a local community college next year.

    • @AkemiLife
      @AkemiLife  6 років тому +3

      It depends on what they need you to do. You may be unloading trucks, scanning + sorting packages, in small sort, or loading trucks. There might be more or less positions depending on the size of your facility and they may also train you during the preload. I personally wasn't trained for my preload shift since the management didn't have the time to implement a system.

  • @MisterLazy218
    @MisterLazy218 6 років тому +19

    I started at UPS about a month ago and they had me as a loader on one of the hardest if not the hardest areas possible. Which really frustrates me because we don't have a lot of workers. A lot of people like to call out because they are in the union and that especially puts a lot more work on the rest of us, and it fucking sucks. They need to reword how the union works or whatever because we have guys who come in and do nothing and still get paid or they just call out for the night for like 2 nights a week. Sundays suck for midnight shift because we have to do twilight sort as well. After about 1 week in, I decided I was going to quit because I just wasn't ready for this amount of work. Luckily I was offered an easier position working in Data Acquisition and that's where I am to this day. DA is more pushing and pulling which is a lot easier for me, but we still get fucked over because people like to call out. One night I was the only one who showed up in DA and we had to get a few others from somewhere else to help out. I'm not even sure if we can handle peak season.

    • @michaelgagne5022

      kingsley sarfo pre load is brownies, the rest of the shifts load feeder trailers for longer destinations

    • @LilPhilAtl
      @LilPhilAtl 2 роки тому +3

      Yea i learned a trick for loading, throw all the small boxes in the back, don’t wait to use bags, use bags and small boxes to make a back wall. Then use big boxes to create your initial wall, it makes it ten times easier and faster. Put long heavy boxes/irregs on the side standing up. As long as you lock in your walls, you should be able to load to the top.
      p.s. drink lots water, before, during shift, and after shift, u won’t have to pee as much because you’re sweating all of it out. and make sure to eat FOOD, not snacks. And if a box is too heavy for you just drop it, slide it, flip it, etc. Choose your health over a box, most of the time it’s supposed to be a team lift anyways if a supervisor tells you to carry it tell them to carry that heavy a** box 😂
      ps. drink lots of water

And I know that cause I work in the worst work station in a 4 state area so I deal with the worst of it all. • @owlzmarket
      @owlzmarket 5 років тому

      Joseph almazan I just started working this shift in a smaller center, tonight is only my second shift and it was rough, we were down two people, but doable. It’s a lot easier than the morning shift I assume, it’s mostly just checking in packages and then sending them off to the hub, but that’s only if you’re working in one of the smaller warehouse I guess.

      Joseph almazan idk if you still work there but I’ve been working reload (night shift) for about 8 months and we never work for more then 3-3.5 hours a day and even peak season was pretty chill. It helps when you keep the strong and hardworking people in unloading and loading and keeping the weaker people in smalls.

      part time. I actually quit today. today was just so insane, I had towers of boxes falling all over, packages were blocking the aisle so drivers couldnt get to their trucks, and I had nowhere to put the huge heavy ass boxes coming off the belt. I seriously dont know how anyone can do this job, atleast on my belt at my facility. the speed you are expected to work at is just insane. some belts are so much easier but I got put on the hardest one even though I was only there for a week. I had 4 misloads, and my supervisor had a talk with me and it seemed like he was almost suggesting I should quit, so I did.
