I think growing up i heard about this game but i didnt have a pc then, now I'm super happy with the remastered version! such a fascinating world! I love it!
God bless you, Double Fine, and Sony. I will buy this the day it releases for the Vita. And when I finally get my PS4, I'll buy it again. I love this game THAT much. I still have my physical copy and the strategy guide that was released with all that fantastic artwork in the back. Never, ever, ever getting rid of them.
Please, please, PLEASE release the remake with the option to choose between the original dub and the old foreign languages dubs. I'm from Italy and though I believe the original dub is better, I'm also very attached to the italian dub. Wich was AWESOME, by the way.
I fear this will not be possible since the rights to the localizations are still most likely a property of the companies who published the game in other countries. But as an italian myself I would love to have them.
I'm so, so, sooooo happy that they got the rights. I can't even imagine how sad I would be seeing Grim fall into the hands of someone who didn't truly understand the game. Can't wait to go on an adventure with you again, Manuel Calavera, for old times sake.
This is quite literally a dream come true for me. I've been hoping for this to happen for about half my life and I never thought it actually would, especially after Disney closed down Lucas Arts. This is not only one of my favorite childhood games, but one of my favorite games of a time. Truly a work of art, Grim Fandango is what I think of when I hear the word "masterpiece."
Took me literally 20 years to beat this game. I started as a kid, but my PC barely run the game at the time... only now I was able to finish it on the PS4. So much memories... love this game so much!
Awesome! My definite favorite adventure game ever! Got it at release in 1998 and have played it multiple times. At the time I didn't even have a computer of my own so I had to bring it over to friends with computers to play it :P
Amazing game remember being 10 and my dad brought it home for me i got stuck soo many times and he helped me out, seemed to take a lifetime to complete but it was great, why grim fandango 2 was never confirmed is beyond me, hopefully this reboots the hype for it
I love you guys ;_; I love how much passion you have for your projects both past and present, and I'm as thrilled for you guys to be working on this as I am to finally be able to play it for myself!
Just found that remastered Grim Fandango is on it's way. This is absolutely stunning! I even got shivers down my spine. I was looking periodically for news like this and finally it's here! I'm dying to see it and of course i will support it and buy it.
I love this game. I treasure it. I play it at least once a year. I still listen the the score regularly. This is my favorite game of all time. Tim and Crew. Thank you. THANK YOU for making this game. I was damn near tears when I finished this video. Best news I have heard for a long, long time.
Same here. Of all the great things at E3 this year, this was the one thing that made me sequel like a little girl. It was literally a dream coming true right before my eyes.
Tim Schafer you are the MAN!!! Love all your games and look forward to seeing what you and your great group at DoubleFine have next. Look out for act 2 of Broken Age people and watch this man work, he is the godfather of Adventure Games.
Step back and look at Tim's approach to making a game, its the thing that makes these games memorable and interesting. Its also what is missing from many modern games... we need it back.
I cannot explain how happy I am that this is happening. I came across it when I was younger on a demo disk and managed to get it shortly after. There's a lot of good games out there from all eras, but that's probably my favorite. Loved the characters, locations, story, etc. Good luck to the team!! I'll wait however long is needed. :)
Necro tron Patient?! There's no way I could wait to play this game knowing it was out. Dammit, am I really going to have to buy a PS4 just for this game? ...Yea, I guess it's worth it. ;D
If I'm not mistaken, release for PC, Mac and Linux is also happening. At the same time. And by that, I mean ALL VERSIONS, including PS4, together at the same time.
it probably will, since tim said on his twitter that Sony were helping with the console release of grim fandango- i'm pretty sure it will come later than the PS4/Vita versions, but it will come eventually
I am so happy. Grim fandango is like a good book. I revisit it from time to time because it is such a wonderful story. This is my favourite game of all time.
I bought a PS4 for this game. It has been so long since I've played this game. I remember a scene where he becomes a club owner. I'd never seen anything like that in a game before. Gave me chills.
Got my copy in 2010 from an Entertainment Exchange in the UK, and I even managed to play it on my laptop! Quite happy it's coming, hoping for a PC release so I can play it again with, hopefully, a better control scheme ;) Glad you guys were able to talk things out with Disney.
Its so great to see the fans that put hard work into modding Grim Fandango will see their work brought over to DoubleFine's own new edition! That's a good way to treat the fans. In comparison, while Bethesda did take good pointers from popular mods for Oblivion in making Skyrim, they did not directly credit these mods the way you do (though it was a step in the right direction already). The modding community is a huge asset to any game and game developer and giving them credit and giving them support in modding pays dividents that, as Bethesda's games show, are incomparable. Good video!
Most unexpected and awesome news of E3 for me. Grim Fandango is so close to my heart. As a mexican, I always loved the amazing imagination they used to integrate the folklore in the story.
hope it makes a lot of money for disney so they can see the value in the lucasgames rights they own and maybe let tim work on more games , maybe another monkey island game. that would be awesome
So excited for this. I have fond memories playing it in my dorm in college, totally enveloped by the incredible atmosphere and story. Unfortunately, a nasty bug killed my save file about 3/4's of the way through. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to finally finish the game.
The reason why the game wasn't a "hit" was that adults appreciate it on a whole different level. I absolutely ADORED this game and now? I adore it ten times more, if possible. I'm just realizing how much I missed, from the concepts, as a teenager. I thought it was a masterpiece back then. Now I *UNDERSTAND* why it is masterpiece, as I'm looking back at every detail.
You guys are amazing, i loved the game and came here o hear more about your team. It's so great that you have mentioned the fanbase that "legally" speaking was "pirating" the game. You guys are real gamers, and have so much passion for it. Thanks for sharing this passion through Grim Fandango! All my love from BraziL!
Congrats DF! I bought Grim Fandango back in the day! But, a "friend" borrowed it, and never returned it - in fact claimed he never borrowed it from me. 8)
Weird, that's exactly what happened to my dad's copy that we played back in the day. He lent it to a guy and the guy moved away unexpectedly. I think there's a Lucas Arts bandit on the loose.
I'll be honest I freaked out when I heard Grim Fandango was being re-released. I cannot begin to say how much I'm looking forward to playing Grim again.
with the new Grim Fandango announcement it seems like every single game franchise has been revisited now in some form or another. the game industry has finally come full circle.
Just bought this game on PS4 and waiting for it to download. Never played it before, but heard of it way back. Telltales The Walking Dead has really got me into this kinda genre, so I look forward to playing it.
Yes, PC!!! Hope their overlords allow Double Fine to do Grim Fandango justice given how excellent DF has treated their previous games with re-releases, updates, GOG, etc.
I have no idea what Tim is saying, I bought my copy of Grim Fandango from the Lucasarts website in ~2006. That game was easily available for a looooooooooooooong time. I'll agree, it's not the case now and I'm really loving these retrospectives you've been doing and looking forward to a Grim re-release.
I'm guessing the people responsible for language dubbing were quite amazing from what I can read below. I personally have played both French and original versions, and stuck with french for the many many replays that ensued. Vioce acting was spot-on, along with hispanic accents and all. "un bijou" :)
Gotta admit this makes me slightly concerned regarding management of resources between this and Broken Age. Just how much can you put into both projects at once? It would be incredible to see this run at 1080p, with new HD textures, added lighting effects, bump mapping, improved shadows etc. but I guess that would mean porting it over to a new engine, which I assume would basically mean re-making the game other than the existing LUA scripts for behaviour stuff. The other really exciting thing is other future possibilities that come from this. I think Manny's story ran it's course to a wonderful ending but there may be other stories to tell from the Land of the Dead... Here's hoping.
The more work they have, the more people they can hire. That's how business works. The problem is not doing the work, it's getting it in the first place. Also, remember that only a small part of DF are working on Broken Age -- there's LOTS of other project being developed there: Spacebase DF-9, Massive Chalice, Costume Quest 2, Hack N' Slash, etc. Justin Bailey is rapidly becoming my hero. Well done for making this happen, sir!
Holy fucking shitsticks I'm excited. I grew up on your works, guys. And now there's going to be a grim re-release?! Oh man. I hope it'll be cross-platform for Linux/Mac as well :D
Literally dispelled all doubts I had about getting a PS4. A PC release would be all fine a dandy but GF is too great of a game to be missed out on twice. Played a bit of my friends copy but the rest I watched through playthroughs but god it was great. Just experiencing the game by whatever means is a good thing. So much beauty to admire(and skills to be jealous of). Cant wait to revisit the Eight Underworld. Maybe with some extra content? P.S Young Tim. God what a handsome fella. lol
I hope everyone who has a PS4 or a PSVita buys this game, because I won't. I just don't have that kind of money to spend on a new system. However, once/if it gets released on PC/Steam, I will buy it most assuredly, because I have wanted to play this game ever since I heard about it a long time ago and watched a whole playthrough on it. I can't wait!
GF is one of the best games I've ever played, defiantly the best game I played as a child. I'll be buying this game for the nostalgia value to be sure. I never got to play Day of the Tentacle or Full Throttle, could you do these as well please :)
It won a Game of the Year award in the same year Ocarina of Time, Half Life and Metal Gear Solid came out. It's that good.
Good one, not much more to be said ;)
And Starcraft. We can just keep going.
Whoms "game of the year"?
Wow, looking back on it now, that was one damn good year for gaming.
AmirethDAB Gamespot's GOTY award.
Peter Chan is an absolute fucking genius god.
I think growing up i heard about this game but i didnt have a pc then, now I'm super happy with the remastered version! such a fascinating world! I love it!
Same here!

I still have my physical copy and the strategy guide that was released with all that fantastic artwork in the back. Never, ever, ever getting rid of them.
Don't forget to thank Disney - the project was greenlit after they acquired LucasArts after all. The world turns in mysterious ways.
You are 100% correct. Thank you Disney. People give you a lot of shit, but you're mostly good in my book!
Its now available on Vita!
Please, please, PLEASE release the remake with the option to choose between the original dub and the old foreign languages dubs. I'm from Italy and though I believe the original dub is better, I'm also very attached to the italian dub. Wich was AWESOME, by the way.
I agree
i agree too, i love the original dubbing
Totally agree. The Portuguese Brazilian dub is really good, also.
I would second that. There are not many german game dubs that are equal to the original but Grim Fandango is def one of those.
It was a privilege playing this game.. Thank you Wonder makers..
Love that Ryan Davis makes a cameo in the first minute.
I got goosebumps hearing his voice again.

Love the Ryan Davis pin/picture on Tim's desk.
RIP Ryan
I can't fully put into words how much I love this game and how much it means to me, but I can say that I am so beyond excited for this remake!
True. Whenever someone begins talking about classic videogames, the first game that always comes to my mind is Grim Fandango :D
Awesome! My definite favorite adventure game ever! Got it at release in 1998 and have played it multiple times. At the time I didn't even have a computer of my own so I had to bring it over to friends with computers to play it :P
Needless to say Grim Fandango is an amazing game - great gameplay, awesome story, unique atmosphere and fabulous visuals and sound.
Amazing game remember being 10 and my dad brought it home for me i got stuck soo many times and he helped me out, seemed to take a lifetime to complete but it was great, why grim fandango 2 was never confirmed is beyond me, hopefully this reboots the hype for it
That picture of Ryan Davis on his desk. Tim Schafer, you're alright with me.

I flipped out when they announced the remake XD
Same here. Of all the great things at E3 this year, this was the one thing that made me sequel like a little girl. It was literally a dream coming true right before my eyes.
I will buy this the day it comes out on PC.

So excited for Grim Fandango's revival!
Step back and look at Tim's approach to making a game, its the thing that makes these games memorable and interesting. Its also what is missing from many modern games... we need it back.
Congrats on getting the chance to re-release Grim Fandango Double Fine!!
Never got a chance to play this game. Can't wait to try it out!
One of my favourite games of all time! Amazing!
I've been wanting this for such a long time now. I'm overjoyed to know that it's finally happening.
Bought a PS4 just for this. One of my favourite adventure games from when I was a kid, can't wait to play the remaster!
Congratulations on the greenlight for Grim, guys! It's definitely one of my favourite games, so I wish you best of luck on the remastering.
Give us a PC version, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!!
It'll come. Their partnership with Sony is 99% going to be a timed exclusive. Be patient, Sony is helping fund it.
Necro tron Patient?! There's no way I could wait to play this game knowing it was out. Dammit, am I really going to have to buy a PS4 just for this game? ...Yea, I guess it's worth it. ;D
Necro tron Nope, got an email from doublefine today - PC, Mac, Linux will launch simultaneously along side PS4 & vita!
If I'm not mistaken, release for PC, Mac and Linux is also happening. At the same time. And by that, I mean ALL VERSIONS, including PS4, together at the same time.
Samuel Vardier
Any source on that information?
Is this the real life, is this reality~
I still own the original game from back in 2000.
Me too
I just played this again last year. It still holds up as one of Tim's finest games.
Please come to PC as well :)
it probably will, since tim said on his twitter that Sony were helping with the console release of grim fandango- i'm pretty sure it will come later than the PS4/Vita versions, but it will come eventually
*****
The original, yes. They've confirmed the remake for PC since i made that comment.
So excited about this! Especially hoping for in-game-commentary and added gameplay. +1 for a PC version if possible
This game means a lot to me. Tim and the gang (including the guys at Disney and Sony), thanks for making this happen.
Got my copy in 2010 from an Entertainment Exchange in the UK, and I even managed to play it on my laptop! Quite happy it's coming, hoping for a PC release so I can play it again with, hopefully, a better control scheme ;)
Glad you guys were able to talk things out with Disney.
Thrilled more people will be able to enjoy that beautifully macabre world.
So happy this is getting remade by you guys! :)
Its so great to see the fans that put hard work into modding Grim Fandango will see their work brought over to DoubleFine's own new edition! That's a good way to treat the fans.

I'm yet to have the pleasure of playing Grim Fandango, but I've been interested for a while now, and I'm quite excited about this.
THIS GAME WILL NEVER DIE!!!!
So glad Double Fine get to work on THEIR game again :)
Never played grim fandango, now i can't wait to play it!
Grim Fandango is the pinnacle of adventure games for me.
The 'look at' was clever, I remember thinking how neat that was back when this was first released.
Watching this video gives me warm feeling inside my stomach
Will definitely buy it again after all these years when you release the remastered version on PC.
I love Manny Calavera, I love this game, I'll wait for the remastered version for PC
I'll be honest I freaked out when I heard Grim Fandango was being re-released. I cannot begin to say how much I'm looking forward to playing Grim again.
I've been waiting so long for this! *-*
Weird how THIS is my most anticipated game; and I've already played it.
OMFG! This is the best year ever since 1998!
with the new Grim Fandango announcement it seems like every single game franchise has been revisited now in some form or another. the game industry has finally come full circle.
Best news out of E3 :D
What a fucking genius. I grew up with his games in the 90s. Beautiful!
Just bought this game on PS4 and waiting for it to download. Never played it before, but heard of it way back.
Telltales The Walking Dead has really got me into this kinda genre, so I look forward to playing it.
One of the greatest games ever! Can't wait to play it on PS4
That tilted camera, so edgy, so 90s.
Great news, can't wait to re play it !
That's very cool of you to have a picture of Ryan Davis right next to your computer, Tim
Wow, for guys who make such hilarious, silly games, they're really serious and sincere in front of a camera.
I still have the original box the game came in. The box was a thing of beauty.
We played this game and enjoyed it enormously. Viva la revolucion!
Yes, PC!!! Hope their overlords allow Double Fine to do Grim Fandango justice given how excellent DF has treated their previous games with re-releases, updates, GOG, etc.
yes so happy
It was and remains the greatest most influential game ever!
Yaaaaaaaaaay! So excited for this to reach a big audience again. Lucky next generation of gaming kids. :)
Thank you for making the Mac version :)
I'm guessing the people responsible for language dubbing were quite amazing from what I can read below. I personally have played both French and original versions, and stuck with french for the many many replays that ensued. Vioce acting was spot-on, along with hispanic accents and all. "un bijou" :)
What a great insight.
Yes! By far the best announcement this E3! I cannot wait to play Grim Again - My disk copies are almost worn out.
The Giant Bomb Ryan Button. That's super cool of Tim. RIP Ryan!
Great memories! Back in the golden age of Lucas Arts games and adventure games. Would love a downloadable PS4 version!
I hope they also make a physical release. I'll buy both, this game is very dear to me.
Wow, you guys look so young in the photo, I was just a little kid back then, playing your game with dictionary next to me.
Loving the Ryan Davis button.
I can't wait!
A truly unique game, I loved it.
Is it weird that during the E3 2014 Sony Conference, one of the things that made me more excited was Grim Fandango HD ?
Gotta admit this makes me slightly concerned regarding management of resources between this and Broken Age. Just how much can you put into both projects at once? It would be incredible to see this run at 1080p, with new HD textures, added lighting effects, bump mapping, improved shadows etc. but I guess that would mean porting it over to a new engine, which I assume would basically mean re-making the game other than the existing LUA scripts for behaviour stuff. Don't know if upscaling models and increasing their complexity is even really a thing. So, I'm assuming it will be a basic port with a little bit of added polish rather than the complete remake I'm dreaming about, but that's OK.
I have no doubt it'll still be great and I'm really excited about going back to one of the greatest games ever made (and I've probably forgotten some of the puzzle solutions, so I can play it again for real).
I hope the remake rocks and makes a lot of money so the guys will consider doing a sequel.
God what a handsome fella. lol
Awesome, thanks Tim. I hope that also means there's potential for new Monkey Island.
Amazing!!!what news! I love you guys yesssss!
Thank you.
You made the game, even if u somehow mess up the remake, i could never see anyone else remaster it.
So. Stoked.
GF is one of the best games I've ever played, defiantly the best game I played as a child. I'll be buying this game for the nostalgia value to be sure. I never got to play Day of the Tentacle or Full Throttle, could you do these as well please :)
