Cactus from Seed (Trying a New Way) | Spider Farmer sf-600 Grow Light

- I found a cactus seed pack in the supermarket! Let us see if I can grow them. One thing that I dislike when I sow cactus seeds is sterilizing the soil in a microwave. It is necessary but sometimes I am too lazy to go through the task. In this video, I am experimenting if I can try an easier way to sterilize my soil.

YAY! we are so happy you have sown the cactus seeds we gave you and we really hope that they germinate well for you, :-D its so exciting or I should say 'SOW' exciting haha to sow cactus seeds, and you have a wonderful selection of many different seeds, the cactus grow kits are wonderful, and all the seedlings from the seeds you gave us are doing so well, and I LOVE the Spider Farmer grow lights they really are AMAZING :-D and the new one looks really FANTASTIC, thanks so much for sharing Ana, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a wonderful new week XXXX
Lol on the SOW exciting. 😁 I pray that I can grow the seeds you sent me. I like the selection of your seeds as I don’t have them yet. I am excited how this SF light will work. I really like the other SF light that I have so I am hoping that this one would be as efficient. 🙂
I'm germinating cactus seeds for the first time, got a mixed bag for a dollar! I followed your microwaving and ziploc bag procedure and I've got sprouts in 4 days already :)) thank you
Congratulations! I wish you more cactus seedlings! 😃
I planted seeds I harvested from one of my cactuses in August. I followed your method of sterilizing the soil and placing them in a zip lock bag. Thanks Ana for your advice. I will keep you posted about how mine are doing.
Oh, I wish you the best. I hope they grow well for you. Do keep me posted. 👍🏼🙂
I'm trying out the cactus seeds from Walmart and Five below. I have some in zip bags and some under the terrariums dollar tree sales.Finger cross they will germinate.Happy growing and stay safe.
Oh did you find the seeds too from Walmart? They came out with a lot with very attractive packaging. I’m hoping mine would germinate. I don’t care if they are not all Ferocactus. I’m just happy that sowing cactus seeds are becoming more commercial. 😀
@@CactusCaffeine Yes I purchased some from Walmart and Five below. I'm like you I don't care what type they are just hope they germinate. So excited to see what I have.😁
Can't wait to see them grow 😃👏👏👏. I'm finally planting seeds after our last cold days pass in a few days and I will follow your instructions. Thank you Ana!💕🌵🌺☮️
I'm watching this as I'm sowing my new Ariocarpus kotchoubeyanus seeds. I'm glad you showed yours, now I know what to expect :)
Oh, good luck with your seeds. 👍🏼😃
Thanks Ana :)
I can't wait to see the update 😊! I'm hoping one day I will be brave and patient enough to try.
Great video, Ana. Looking forward to seeing the results of the seed sowing. That grow light by Spider Farmer looks pretty decent, so looking forward to finding out how that performs. Thank you for sharing with us as always, Ana. Have a wonderful day and week from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌺🌼🏜☕️
Super excited on this experiment. I just wish i could get SF300 here. That’ll be perfect for my space here. So curious on how these seeds will turn out. Keep us updated please. 🌼🌺🌸🌵❤️
The light is so far so good as how the other SF lights are. It is actually brighter than what is in my video as I had the light setting in my camera wrong. 🤦🏻♀️ I hope you get one as well. I turned down the grow tent, by the way. No room in our house.
Enjoyed this fun video... It's great seeing more plant people using Coco coir now, I felt like it was just me using it for ages, but I have seen Daz starting to use it and you are now incorporating it too... I stick to coco coir and various bark chips now for the basis of my potting Mixes 😄 I don't like soils or peat and the creepy things lurking in it 🤮
Good luck with all the seeds and WOW! I LOVE THAT LONGER STYLE OF GROW LIGHT... I NEED THAT! 😆
🌵👍🏻🌱😊
Interesting video, Ana. I have not tried seeds yet. You presented many options. Thanks for your time to pull this together.
I hate microwaving to sterilize the soil because I’m too lazy sometimes. 🥴 But I know sterilizing is important. If hydrogen peroxide works, this is a faster alternative. 😃🤞 Thanks Bill!
Maybe soon you will get into cactus seed sowing, too. 😉
Wow! What a great video. I really want to try coco coir, it's great that people are trying all these new ways to grow these plants from seed. I hope they grow well for you! Have a great rest of the week 🌵🌺☀️☕
Great video Ana!!! Very cool science project!!! I'm very curious to see if the seed in peroxide germinates better than the seed in water. I also use coconut quoir in my mix.
peat isn't good for ariocarpus" and a lot of Chihuahua desert cactus . i think you are spot on with the one seed in the mix being an opuntia! They just look different than most cactus seed. Big and light colored. I find in these seed mixes that they normally contain ferocactus wizlezenii, carnagia gigantea (saguaro) pachycereus pringlei and Echinocactus grusonii. Deb bought me a lot that also had Aloe ferox. 3 seeds , and all grew and are quite large now at only a year old! About 4 inches across! Can't wait to see your results!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas , have a great evening!!!! Peace,Love,Plants!!!!!✌💖🌵🌸🌿🌷🌳💐🌲🌹🌴🌻
It will be interesting to see the results of your experiment and the outcome of the seeds, and you are absolutely right to be skeptical of the seed packets from Walmart, I had one of those packets and got one Ferocactus wislizeni and two Ferocactus emoryi.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s ok if not all are the same Ferocactus. As long as I don’t start growing something with leaves 🍃 🥴
I bought the Walmart ones and some germinate! But the soil is bad. I know some seeds are aloe Vera. I also placed mine in a bag haha I need to try it again with my soil mix. .50 cents at my Walmart!
Oh, some are aloe seeds? Haha. As long as they don’t turn out to be a tomato or some kind of a tree. 😁 Thanks for sharing your experience. It gives me hope on mine.
Yes another vlog from my only idooool
Incredible, your method works, and you are good at cactus. 🤓
Nice video. After three or four months do you put them in your greenhouse or direct sun in their own pots?

Hi and welcome po! 🤗
Looking to seeing how this turns out. I just planted a bunch of seeds myself. I used seed starting mix and added perlite. I didn’t sterilize but I mixed in some cinnamon to prevent fungus. Hopefully we are both successful!
Oh, that’s a great idea to mix cinnamon in the mix. Let me know how it turns out. Honestly, I don’t like microwaving the soil although I know it is necessary. Not to mention it makes my kitchen stink. 🥴 I am just lazy sometimes so I’m trying to find easier ways. 😉
@@CactusCaffeine I hope it works. If not I can use peroxide on the plants to kill anything that grows. I don’t like microwaving it either. Or boiling water. It takes so long to cool off. When I’m wanting to plant I just want to do it. Not wait around for that stuff! Besides I inevitably won’t make enough sterilized soil
Hahaha. That’s so true!
You should try micrografting next time.
This year, my goal is to learn how to graft. 🙂 Fingers crossed. 😉
Has anyone tried to grow Lithops? I would really love to grow them.
Check out CactusCove channel in UA-cam. Tell her I sent you over. 😉
Hello great vid keep it up
Thank you 😊
@@CactusCaffeine your welcome
Nagkakalumot po ba kayo? Paano niyo po hinahandle? 1mon old pa lang po seedlings ko dami na pong lumot. 😭
Just scrape them off gently. Tapos a little less light. 🙂
Any update?
I will make one soon. But since you asked, I will give you a heads up. The ones propagated in Hydrogen Peroxide did not do well. 😔
