I am less than a week into crotchet, and started this today as a gift to my sister. I had to frog the first 2 rows multiple times, but now I’m about a foot into it and getting the hang of it. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial.
Toni, I admire you! I fought with Homespun yarn for years when I first learned to crochet. The last project I made with it was about 15 years ago (a single crochet triangle scarf). I swore when I finished the project I’d never use it again. This project looks lovely and might be easier to manage the yarn, but I just can’t do it! My anxiety level climbs just thinking about it! 🤪🤣 Thanks for all your great videos. I truly enjoy them!

I am one of those people that actually loves Homespun yarn, and have made several different baby blankets out of it. The recipients always rave over the soft snuggly texture. Though, I am new to Tunisian crochet, this very well be the first thing I make. Thank you for the lovely pattern!
Same here... love it and hate it! I did my first project EVER with it, before I knew anything about yarn. I made a loom knit hat which I still have all these years later and I STILL wear, even if it’s not that pretty 😂😂😂 but I remember struggling with how much the yarn was splitting, probably due more to my I experience, but if I can make a scarf this beautiful I’d give it another shot!!

I’ve just discovered your channel, and love it! I think I can finally make a Tunisian stitch project with straight edges by following your directions. Thanks! As for Lion Brand homespun yarn, uh...no!! Years ago, I made an Afghan in 12” squares using Homespun, to sew my grandson’s Boy Scout badges to. It was a present for him earning his Eagle Scout award. I would have been fine if I hadn’t made a lot of mistakes, but that yarn is not forgiving, to be polite. Thank goodness my grandson loved it...years later, he still has it in his room to wrap up around him. Even now, I hear the word “Homespun” and shudder. It is wonderfully soft, and the colors I used were lovely. If you are a perfectionist and can’t stand any mistake at all and unravel projects a lot, my best advice is to use a simpler, sturdier yarn. I’m so glad you were able to do such a nice scarf using it!
I love how the Homestyle feels when it is done but have only been able to use it for knitting as it split too much for me in regular crochet. I will give this a try in Tunisian. Thanks!

Beautiful scarf and the fringe cutting tip is perfect! I have used homespun yarn before on a big gifted afghan. The yarn selection was the the recipient's choice and the colour way was to die for. Unfortunately, I have never cursed so much while crocheting so I have banned myself from using it or any similar yarn again.

Hi, I have been using lion brand for many years. I had the same homespun yarn when I first bought lion brand. It was yellow and a multi colored and I made a cowl scarf with it, so soft and warm, that was about 15 years ago, still use to this day. I must confess it took some getting use to working wit it.
I've had this yarn sitting in a bin since the time I decided I really wanted to learn to crochet! Yes, it was probably the most difficult yarn to work with as a beginner! Well, not only did you convince me but this was the perfect beginner Tunisian crochet project (another skill I've been just dying to try!) TAAADAAA! IT'S DONE and I'm so happy with it. I will post and tag it on my Insta account. THANK YOU TL YARN CRAFTS! (By the way I'm now working on two other shawl projects that you designed....loving them both!)
Funny you should mention that! I went in Michael's and they had homespun marked for 19¢ needless to say I brought it all. I have used it on the machine. But this is a great idea for it
This is gorgeous! I also love/hate this yarn but the finished product is so lovely...I have found using a regular yarn paired with , meaning crocheting both together as one stitch, makes the homespun easier to work with, especially in crochet...

I have made a hat and a cowl using homespun and I like using it but I did use a simple stitch which makes it easy to see each stitch. This looks like a cool stitch to try thank you so much for sharing !! 🐰🐰

I’m not making it with lion brand but I am making it with some Bernat kaleidoscope I think it’s called. It’s a super soft yarn and it’s my first time doing Tunisian crochet and holy smokes I’ve been missing out. I bought the stuff to learn a while ago but I was working on a mandala blanket that took up most of my time for weeks. I’m loving this crochet style.

Hahaha! My friend and fellow knitter and crocheter always warn each other about Homespun yarn when we are attracted to it. It is beautiful and we love to look at it, but we have both had trouble with it. Maybe this tutorial will convince us to use it.

I HATED that yarn until I used it in a weaving project. Right now I'm using it for "hair" in a crochet cap/wig. I tied knots in the ends to keep it from unraveling and am LOVING it. My husband just shakes his head wondering what is wrong with me for wanting a yarn wig in GREEN! LOL, but I really can't wait to get it finished! P.S. I found a throw online today in a pattern I just adore! If I can send you a picture, can you see if you are familiar with the pattern?
I have about 20 skeins of homespun that I got on an amazing sale way back before I knew any better. LOL. I have been looking for a pattern for a throw and I think this would translate VERY well! I'm excited to get started... wait... I have 30 other WIPS.... Oh well...what's 1 more?

Thanks Toni for this tutorial. I have been wondering about homespun.....now I think that tunisian simple stitch is all that is needed with the yarn. Might still make a blanket but maybe I will make it scarf like and then join strips together? Then I could make it as wide and long as I want. Who knows. It's a thought in progress at the moment. All I know is I want to make myself a rectangular blanket using tunisian crochet and I think I like homespun yarn....

I am having an issue with the last stitch. Is the last stitch the chain one from the previous row? I have had this yarn forever and never knew what to do with it. This is beautiful and my first project doing tunisian Crochet (I know ambitious 🤦🏽♀️😁) that vertical bar though! If I put a marker in the chain one space will that work?
Rolling is normal with Tunisian crochet. Steam it lightly once your done and it should go flat. If your hook is rolling, you may need to invest in swivel cords. Stationary cords tend to make the hook turn, since the hook rotates with the cord.
