@@CarExpertAus Can't tell you how good it is not to have to translate channels that talk in horsepower instead of kilowatts, like we're still in the 18th century or something :)
Love these proper detailed reviews Paul; just one thing i noticed over the last few reviews - almost every time you realise the auto gearbox is a normal, torque-converter type, you seem to be relieved that it's not a double-clutch type, any reason behind this?
Yes 😁 I’m not really a fan of dual clutch gearboxes unless they’re in a sporty car. The gearbox in the M8 is actually perfectly suited to the car. I can’t stand entry-level hatchbacks fitted with complex dual clutch gearboxes for fuel saving as opposed to performance.
Ok Mate, that’s a great review as always, but when are you reviewing the car on your hoodie? I have been waiting for that for ages now and have already booked one in auto.
Excellent review. The M850i sounds better though and with a stage 1 tune has similar performance. Hard to tell either apart on the road for those who want to save $70k
The M8 especially the comp version was a failed model- they should have done everything imaginable to reduce the weight, to get it closer to m4 weight to properly compete with Porsche. Not sure what they were thinking so totally agree the m850i is the right one to get.
Nice review Paul. And nice car. For competition, you list the Audi R8 V10+, Mercedes AMG GT, and Porsche 911. Also the Aston Martin DB11. I think BMW has a "problem" at this price point. Given the money, would someone buy this M8 over a DB11? Aston Martin vs BMW? Maybe the problem with this car is that it is kind of an M5 underneath (at about $100k less), whereas the options you listed (R8, AMG GT, etc.) are cars designed for this price point. Or would you choose a Carrera 4S and pocket the $50k? Is the M8 is one of the best looking cars in this segment? I think it looks better than the AMG GT, but is nowhere near as good looking as the R8 or the DB11.
The DB11 is a great car, but it’s let down by a lack of practicality and a two generation old Mercedes-Benz infotainment system. You can’t beat the design though, it’s bloody stunning!
Great review Paul. Interior colours still not winning. How about some used reviews? Not too old, but would like to see how a stinger has held up over 1-2 years, for example.
Amazing car, BMW definitely has its performance powertrain packaging and formula right. But for the price, you have to be a hardcore BMW fan to buy one over the more tempting Porsche. With the new BMW cars equipped with the ZF8HP gearbox, to properly launch the car, hold on to the brakes just a tad longer after the Launch Control is activated (maybe a second or two more max) and it will go even harder.
The problem is it won’t hold itself on the spot. You can actually see in one of the launches the rear wheels start spinning, which causes the timer to start. The unprepared surface at the drag strip is a little tricky to contend with!
Is the suspension in comfort mode that uncomfortable? of course it is not a 750Li air suspension, but cant the M8 competition, be used in comfort setting for the suspension as a daily driver car?
It's not uncomfortable, it's just a little too firm. The way I see it, if this was a sportier car that competed with the 911 directly it would make sense that it's firm. But it should be more of a GT. But at the end of the day, I think buyers that look for the Competition version will be willing to sacrifice some comfort for the level of sportiness on offer.
Thank you for the answer. I have no experience with 911, but I have some with 2018 Panamera and 2018 Audi RS4. RS4 was way too firm for my taste; RS4 is a small car, not very wide and not too long, compared with M8 competition and having the DRC on RS4 made that car feel very uncomfortable to be driven day by day. I think you have driven the RS4 2018 with DRC. Compared to that how is M8 competition? Thank you.
Stock car and some great times..How about a drag between the Trackhawk and the M8?? BTW, the Trackhawk carries another 400kgs..all for far less than half price.
Sorry, Eshan! You're stuck with me for a little while longer. Alborz is working on other parts of our business :-D you can follow him on Instagram if you'd like to keep up with his cars.
im pretty sure you can lower the steering wheel 26:40 . Otherwise great review. I loved how you did a drag race not in race mode with launch control, more real world test.
maaate, todaaay Ay really envy you, but in a good waaay 👍. this bmw maaate is hell of a machine, no matter whether only on a straaayght laaayn. but Ay wonder how many of those maaates who buy this car can actually handle 600+HP with all stability features off.
Who cares about 3.4 sec to 100 if the ride is not optimal, as you described. For this sort of money everything should be perfect, especially with so many driving options. Can't blame the 20 inch wheels.
@@CarExpertAus seemed like your eyes were too focused on making sure you took your foot off the gas just as you saw you hit the distance points on the instrument panel rather than just stomping it past the stop points
Even though he managed good numbers but it can do way better I saw a video for the M8 doing 0.100 km/h in 2.8 seconds You need to build some boost and then launch it that's how to get perfect launch
We tried variations of it, but it didn’t make much of a difference. An unprepped surface will make it harder to achieve times. The 2.8 seconds would have also been with one foot rollout, which we don’t count.

Ha ha, great way to put it!
Mate! Loved that review 🙂
Thanks, M8!
Awesome review Paul - looking forward to some more reviews. Love these AMG, M and RS car reviews 🙂🙂
Thanks! Got a fun video with this coming next week so keep an eye out!
The steering wheel is fully adjustable up, down in,out via a button on l/h steering column.
That’s right. But unfortunately when it goes down it sits against my legs and I can’t turn the wheel. I’m a freak!
It comes across strongly how much you enjoy what you do which is what I want from a viewer's perspective 👍
Thanks, Geoff. Really appreciate it.

just wondering on comfort mode is it good for a daily car?
Cheers
what a beast in one of the launches you can see the rear wheels spin before it moves off the line..

Have heard figures of between $8k-10k US to replace a single laser headlight unit ... and yet, I still rather adore this damn car!
🤯 wow! That’s crazy expensive.

Very nice car. Can you confirm with the laser lights, I read somewhere they don’t come on fully unless your doing 80km and over on the road.
Correct! And there needs to be nobody in front of you. They work incredibly well though - the visibility they offer is next level!
Paul great review totally awesome 1/4 mile time and speed.

something about this car I cant put my finger on.. am i crazy for saying I'd rather get a 992 porsche carrera?
Not at all! Very different cars, but the 992 is a heap of fun 😁

The M8 is basically a better m6 gran coupe in a lot of ways. That was my favourite bmw.
They are now releasing an M8 Gran Coupe too 😁
CarExpert yes I have seen it, it is a pretty special looking car.
I prefer it over the coupe!
@@CarExpertAus gran coupe vs panemera turbo S?
Great review for what is a great grand touring sport coupe
Thanks! I’m looking forward to having a drive of the M8 Gran Coupe.
Great looking car & great sound.
Amazing review again guys. Am I the only one who thinks that these engines sort of sound like v10’s that used to be in the e60 m5?
They do a bit! They don't sound anything like the AMG V8 engines. I quite like the unique sound they make.
Imho the most direct competition to this car is the AMG GT63S, I would love to see you comparing and drag racing this 2 cars
Not a bad idea 😁 are you talking the GT four door? Or the coupe?

Surprised the trap speed isn’t greater. My 2010 GT3 traps 122mph. But only 11.8
