Cross Kart gets 110HP Honda 919 Swap??

  • We begin swapping the tired old 1982 Honda CB750 engine out of our custom built cross kart, and replacing it with a 2003 Honda 919 engine. Engine removal was easy enough, and the new engine is smaller than the older engine (even though it's larger in displacement and makes more power!), however we run into one REALLY big problem!

This time around, you should try using a skid plate to protect the motor. It's way cheaper than a new motor.

I think they are just sceard of 2 stroke engines. It is a new platform for them. Must suck to bee one of the many guys that gave them all them engines and was hoping to see there gift on there channel. for 3-4 years ago when they tested a regular gokart with a snowmobile engine when they was on a swap meet. And they both was realy, REALY impresed with the speed and power, and both of them sat in there car and promesed everyone they where gone do a snowmobile engine build. I like the concept of CrossKart v2.0. I'm not a vehicle designer, but I'd approach it like this:
Design the driver cockpit first to house each of you comfortably, and safely. Plan where all controls will be located.
Second, design the powerplant and driveline compartment to house, and handle the engine and components you'll be using.
Third, design the suspension to handle the specific duties the vehicle will be used for.
This sequence makes sense to me, and I will concede there's a thousand steps in planning and implementing, but I believe you'll save time, money, and frustration with a thorough plan at the beginning of a major project like that. Adjust as circumstances dictate.
Best wishes, and thanks for the entertaining vids guys!

If the bike has a dyno jet on it then definitely try simply plugging the stock computer in to remedy the smoke. It won't smoke as drastically if the temp sensor is bad. Either way its always good to just change the temp sensor in a older fuel injected bike that wasn't correctly winterized.

New crosskart 2.0 is a good idea but you guys should just put a jackshaft and sprockets to move it over to match it up with the old rear sprocket and accel. Looks like you have plenty of space for it. If not it's small enough to put one of your snowmobile engine's you have in it and you won't have to shift. Either way you have the means and the know how. Good luck and keep on building

I wouldnt mind getting the rear shock off of that 919 for my Honda Hawk rebuild I am working on Edit: I could probably point them to about a half dozen or more CB900 and a couple dozen CB750s The motorcycle salvage yard I frequent for my project bikes is full of them.

My apologies that was supposed to say a jack shaft could be used to align the chain with the rear sprocket and the engine would be centered. With cars and cameras it has not always been about what was easier. I have been more impressed when you take something and keep at it and make it work. Thanks again for all the content I will continue watching

As someone who has owned a CB900C, you guys probably want a CB900F. The C models were shaft-drive and had a pretty complicated system that transfers the power output to the right (opposite) side of the engine. Basically Honda only had 1 shaft drive assembly at the time, but still wanted to use their 900CC engine, so to make it work they had to get the engine power to the other side. You could MAYBE unbolt some stuff and somehow get the the sprocket on the left side of the engine, but you'd be going down a rabbit hole at that point

didnt realize the 919 has a boxed frame like that. looks very crude compared to twin spar aluminum and tube frames you'd normally see on a bike

It almost looked like you could relocate the bearing to the inside. Swap the rear axle bearing with the sprocket and it would be close. Even if it was off just an inch or two at that point you could have a piece machined to adapt move the sprocket over the axle itself.
Maybe??? That cross cart needs that 919!!

  • @jaratt85

Building a new one that has all the protection you need for the engine as well as you (no turning into Parker from Cleetus and Cars by getting scalded!) would be a good idea. Then again maybe you should swap that thing to a built 670 and put the CB900 engine into the drag rail and get that thing REALLY going fast. Though if you do that I definitely suggest seatbelts and something to hold your arms in, netting or whatever.
Running a less restrictive exhaust will make the bike engine run leaner. I'd definitely suggest checking your plugs and having your injectors cleaned. You could have a dead cylinder dumping unburnt fuel or a stuck injector dumping WAY too much fuel. (nice part about carbs you can easily adjust them unlike computers)

my cross kart is very similar in size weight and design as this one and after a few different engines it’s currently using a 2012 fz1 yamaha 998cc inline 4 in stock form makes 150hp but with a few simple mods it’s now putting out 182 hp. it’s based on the previous generation R1 engine with different cams and tweaks to increase low and midrange torque at the cost of a little peak power and it suits the kart perfectly

    Idea!
If it won't fit because of the air box, cutom intake time.
If it will fit centred but the sprocket is off centre, idler shaft with 2 sprockets. 1 lining up with the engine output and the other lining up with the axle sprocket.... a little extra fabrication work but worth it for the HP!
