With the entire city rioting, setting fires and carrying "kill the rich" signs... Thomas Wayne: "Good time to go to a show. We'll just cut through the alley"
To me you neither seem pessimistic or negative. You appear grounded in reality and well aware and empathic of what can happen to people that are subjected to bad condition's. I even saw some "saltwater" in your eyes. Very mature and desirable capabilities to possess! Much love to you!
This is definitely an "Elseworlds" take on the Joker that doesn't stick too closely to his original character from the comics. They do pull a bit from his lore, like the idea of Joker being a failed stand-up comedian, but that’s about as far as it goes. The movie takes way more inspiration from films like Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy than anything from the source material. Joker (2019) does flip the usual origin story by hinting that Joker might actually be the reason Batman exists, with the Wayne's being killed by a masked clown, probably Joe Chill all thanks to the mayhem created by Joker. That’s a big twist on the usual lore, where Joker’s origin is tied to Batman, falling into a vat of chemicals because of him, which is often seen as one of Batman’s biggest failures. Making Thomas Wayne a bit of a jerk is also a major departure, he’s usually portrayed as one of Gotham’s few genuinely good people, which even Batman Begins highlighted really well. Another interesting change is how much older Joker is compared to Bruce Wayne in this version. In the comics, Joker is usually just a few years to maybe a decade older than Batman. The whole “maybe Thomas Wayne is his dad” is a creation of this film, Joker typically has no personal connection to Bruce beyond his rivalry with Batman. Overall, it’s hard to even call this a Joker film. Gotham in this film just feels like New York City, and you could easily make this film about some random character with no ties to the DC universe. But maybe that’s the point, Arthur Fleck isn’t THE Joker. He’s just Joker, someone who will probably never become the real Joker that Bruce faces when he becomes Batman in his mid 20s. That’s been my theory ever since I first watched the film, Arthur was never going to be the actual Joker. But honestly, I would’ve loved a proper Joker film that really dives into the Clown Prince of Crime, capturing everything that makes the character iconic in the comics while also showcasing an amazing Gotham City. The Penguin TV series is a great example of how to do justice to a character without stripping away their identity. We’ve got a Clayface show coming to the DCU, which will lean more into horror. We need more films and shows like these that fully embrace the characters, rather than taking their name and nothing else.
We always see through little bruce's eyes how he see's his father, of course like his hero but we don't see it from a grown witness wich was only the killer. Also when he places the mask on the trash, that's fore shadowing toxic chemicals and his face rising out of the toxic waste.
Hey Abby. Thank you so much for enduring the copyright issues and getting this out for us. I enjoyed your reaction, especially the parts when you were just silent and teary-eyed. That was exactly my reaction during many parts of this film when I saw it for the first time.
I'm sure someone has mentioned this, but the Heath Ledger thing was wildly overblown. Yes he had a journal, yes he did lock himself in while prepping for the role. On set though, all of the actors have said he was laughing and chatting with cast and crew, and he seemed to just be having so much fun.
He was also struggling with bipolar depression and severe insomnia that had absolutely nothing to do with the Joker, and those things probably contributed very strongly to his drug use and eventual death. People who say that playing the Joker killed him are wrong, pure and simple, and as somebody who also struggles with a chronic mental health disorder that often leads to really bad bouts of insomnia I feel like it’s kinda disrespectful to sensationalize his death like that while ignoring the very real struggles that ACTUALLY killed him. I appreciate your comment, because somebody had to say this 🙂
This is not the Heath Ledger Joker or based on his version. It’s completely separate. Heath also had no issues or problems whatsoever with the character or method. You’re teacher must have been ridiculously ill informed. He hardly ever stayed in character on set and would make jokes, skateboard around and show photos of his new daughter like a proud dad and greet everyone with huge bear hugs at the beginning and end of each day. He literally was in the middle of filming his next movie and was telling everyone how proud he was of the work he’d done. The only reason he died is because he always suffered from sleeping problems and he accidentally took a toxic combination of sleeping pills and other medications while going to bed. It was a tragedy, but it was totally accidental. Heath was perfectly fine and the Joker role didn’t affect him in the slightest.
It’s not the people who went to the cinema didn’t know that it was a musical. The information was leaked beforehand, and we all expressed our opinions about how the original ended in a way where it didn’t need a continuation plain and simple. It was great by itself, and if it did get a continuation, it should’ve followed the exact same tone and vibe that the first established. Not to hate on Lady Gaga or the second movie, but I’m a big consistency person so it was pretty obvious that I wasn’t gonna see the second.
@@RyansChannel0203 I haven’t watched the sequel yet and unfortunately cause it’s a musical I don’t think I’ll react to it, but I’ll add an update here and on Instagram about my thoughts
With how honest you are during your commentary it will be interesting to see your opinion on one of the biggest character asasinaton in cinema history with Joker 2. Her fondness for Gaga will be interesting to see how she acts towards the movie.
Gremlins ( 1984 ) is a Christmas movie and the main girl hates tf out of Christmas plus gremlins ruining Xmas but even you are powerless against gizmo the mogwai in a Santa hat
28:38 A lot of people didn't catch the idea of why he starts touching himself during that call. He does it to make sure he's not in the middle of a hallucination episode in the face of such an invitation Liked your reaction (not overreactead like a lot of people do). Joker 2 decimates this one, so I highly recommend not watching that nonsense
It's a shame that so many people didn't understand Joker 2. That is the price of taking great artistic risks in this day and age of lazy cinema audiences.

The sequel is pretty awful, and it has nothing to do with it being a musical (there are plenty of good musicals). It's simply boring - like watching paint dry.
very intresting when you said ... a lot of people struggle what makes you so special ... what doesnt ?? he is as much human as anyone else ??? why should it be a matter of how special you are or not ??? its not just about him aswell, i think he ( as so many else in our society that struggles especially with mental illness because of how our society looks) are aware of everyone around, he is a symbol not only for himself but for everyone, he is not selfish... quite the oppesite ... everyone can BECOME selfish ego etc. thats a diffrence ...
@@carl-filipquick5936 I don’t think he’s selfish, just sometimes people can develop a victim mindset and that’s why I meant I could see Murray’s point of view when he was talking to him

While not a good representation of the character from the source material, in some ways it does offer air a somewhat interesting view of someone who is brought to the edge. But make no mistake, this is a complete and total reimagining of the character of Joker, to the point where they might as well be different characters. It is not at all meant to be an adaptation of the character and really is Joker in name only, as has been stated by the director.
