Fairly simple shootemup considered the sequel to Flying Shark I belive. It plays more or less the same but wth the addition of mega weapons which when powered up, the enemy gets no opportunity to shoot back ;)
The game was played on Hard and has 10 levels. It just loops after the end screen. The game makes use of 60 fps effects so ive blended the video to look reasonable on youtube and no miss anything. You can watch the full 60 fps video at longplays.org -

One of my favourite games on the Mega Drive. Me and my Dad used to spend hours playing this.
My dad would occasionally watch me play this game. I actually started listening to this video while working, just because I LOVE the music and sfx in the game.. though, I could do without the sound played while awarding extra points at the end of the level..
2024, it's unbelievable how creative and amazing the designers of this game were, despite all the limited hardware. The music, sound effects, and the graphics are all incredible!
This brings me back to when I was a child watching my father play this game and then a few years after that I played this game as well. It's a pretty good game.
Fun fact: The word Toaplan (the creators of this game) translates to "Toilet floor" in swedish.

As a fun fact, Batsugun is technically the direct sequel to Fire Shark - Schneider, one of the playable characters there, was retroactively made the pilot of the enhanced biplane in this.
not exactly. schneider is actually the pilot from flying shark / sky shark, fire shark's spiritual predesesor with an unrelated plot.
A great shooter by legendary Toaplan initially released as an arcade game and which was exclusively ported to the Mega Drive/Genesis @home. When played on real hardware (or good emulator) and with a proper sound system it's eargasmic (and almost hypnotic) with all these satisfying stuff to explode coming from everywhere + these superb, rockin' oldskool tunes!

My favorite of the Toaplan games, only Toaplan games close is Batsugun and Truxton 2 from the company (OK, OK I like Kyukyoku Tiger as well) that I would play consistently.
Absolutely love this game. Played the shit out of it on every difficulty. All 10 levels~ love the music of level 3 and 5
I remember how fucked you are if you die in stage 10 and lose your power ups
Just beat this game on hard legitimately without savestates on real hardware for the first time in my life. What a blast it was! Those later stages were hell though, especially stage 10, wasted more credits there than anywhere else in the game. Probably my favorite Toaplan port on the system barring Zero Wing.

Mit Abstand mein Lieblings-Shooter.Alles gut zu erkennen,kein ( ! ) Ruckeln,wenig Phantasie Gebilde,die Schwierigkeit steigt langsam und die Musik ist zu ertragen.Einzig den letzten Level schaffte ich nur mit mogeln.

The weapons in this game apparently go from "wide shot peashooter' to "green laser thingy" to "OMGREDLASEROFABSOLUTEPWNAGE!!!"
Seriously, why go for any other choice than red? :P
As a kid, I never went for any other. I think once in a while, for a challenge, I used one of the other guns just to make the game harder. But the fully powered red, you basically got to sit there and wreck everything

they're made by the same company: ToaPlan... tho Twin Cobra is a far superior product, IMO! they also made Truxton 1 & 2, Vimana, Grind Stormer, Hellfire, OutZone, FixEight, and their most "famous" product: ZeroWing, AKA= all your base are belong to us!

i think the green shoot was made by the enemy! is very confusing, has bad cover range, isn't useful at all! i died a lot using it!

Fun game, too bad the fire weapon was strictly superior to both blue and green, so there was no strategizing which weapon to take for each situation.
i did a test. actually the green has the highest damage, u can beat a boss less than 3 seconds with it. with blue around 5 seconds when closerange, with some bomb spammed. it takes more time with red. but yeah. . its obvious that red is the most effective n safety journey overall.

Raiden engine? Are you crazy, the formula you see here inspired Raiden, not the other way around, Raiden was created as an homage to Toaplan.
