Thank you for the clear instructions to make this lovely peony. Looks like a lot of work as there are so many petals to cut but I'm sure its worth it in the end.
Desiree Malan thank you very much! I’m so happy you liked the tutorial! Peony is indeed a very elaborate flower to make and takes a lot of time, but, to be honest, it’s the star of any cake! first of all thank you for showing it is very beautifully done. I still have a question is the material suitable for a tropical country 40 degrees. I'm afraid the flower will go limp the next day. advice please
Absolutely! Wafer paper is a hydrophobic material, but it's possible to find a way to use it for cake decoration. I would recommend to store wafer paper flowers in a tightly closed boxes. If you have too much moisture in the air, you can add a small silica bag to the box as well. Also, you may experiment with coloring liquid (by adding more or less water, vodka, or glycerin), try to color the petals with dry food coloring. You might like slightly different proportions working better for tropical climate. I recommend you to make a few simple flowers and leave some of them at room temperature, some - in the box), and check on them after a few weeks. It might be absolutely fine and no recipe adjustment needed. To be honest, I live in Seattle, and it's a very humid place in fall/winter season, but the flowers I made look absolutely fine, and can be stored for months! I haven't notice the temperature affecting the flowers or wafer paper.

Thank you so much for your kind comment! ❤️❤️❤️ It will make the edges of petals curled up that creates a natural look of the flower. The petal itself will remain flat if it dries on a flat surface. I recommend to use silicone sphere mold, plastic spoons, or apple trays to dry the petals.
Wire helps better adjust the petals around the center and make a desired shape. It is much easier to attach petals with wire. You can try to make the petals without the wire, but, most likely, you will need to cut more of larger petals to create a big open flower.

Hello! I’m so happy you decided to make the peony and the tutorial was useful! Both water and edible glue will work great - it’s just a matter of personal preference.
Hello! I'm so happy you liked the tutorial! I made a template on a letter size paper. If you print the template without margins, you will get the same petal parameters I used for this flower. Just in case, here are all the measurements for the petals (W x H): The first one (the biggest petal) - 5.5cm X 7cm The second one - 3.5cm X 5cm The third one - 3cm X 5.5cm The last one - 4cm X7 cm
I used thin 26 gauge wire for the petals; however, wire of gauge 24, or 28 will also work great! I added a few drops of glycerin to water. Glycerin will make wafer paper softer and more pliable, that will prevent it from cracking. If you’d like the flower to be brighter, you can also add a tiny amount of gel food coloring into the mixture.
