Low capacity is over criticized IMO. Outside of .gov door kickers who is going to keep coming after you unleash 5 rounds of 00? Having 5 in the gun and another 5-6 on the gun will solve 99.98 % of your problems.

You are assuming you make hits, and it’s you are only against one person. In SHTF I’d imagine it’ll be more than one person and they aren’t standing out in the open for you to get hits. You are coming at the assumption I’m just talking about one home intruder, but I’m talking SHTF/WROL. Unless you are normalcy Norman, then I understand you don’t want to see the writing on the walls

@@NavySoonerI’d say you’re both right. If rule of law stands. And 1, 2, 3 people your typical home invasion. Could be a single person or a few. But it’s not a full platoon assaulting your house. The shot gun might be a good option for 1, 2, 3 retards that picked the wrong house. Especially in my situation having a wife who shoots and a roommate that shoots so I could run a shot gun and it not matter. My house is also layed out in a way that my roommate coming from his room and me coming from mine converging on the front or back doors ends in an intersecting cone of fire. So home defense wise. Got kids? Roomates? House the house laid out? Rule of law or is that gone? Fighting in the street/shtf, rifle. If shtf home defense. Depends. Both are viable options. I don’t think any of us would argue having a rifle and shot gun is better than only one.

Great points in your video. It is a great "all-around" weapon if you're going to be staying home in SHTF for hunting, etc... Definitely not a primary weapon. We live way out in the country on acreage and have family all around us, so we are lucky in that capacity. It wouldn't be the best weapon for bug-out or carrying on foot, for sure. You never know where you will be when SHTF, so I have a couple of options in my truck to get me back home in case I am in town when it happens. A pistol and a 22 rifle. Honestly, the 22 is mostly in case I want to stop and shoot some ground squirrels on the way home, LOL! But it would due as back-up to get me home as well. My primary weapons at home are along the lines of AR's and AK's. I want to put a little talk about the 410 bore. I know it doesn't even compare to the 12 or 20 gauge, but it does have its place. My mother-in-law is 80 years old. The 12 is just too much for her any more. So I bought her a 410 and my wife a 410. To demonstrate how they actually are pretty good, I froze a bunch of gallon size milk jugs. We were at ten paces, the average length of a hallway or good sized living room. We started with the bird shot, then the pellets (one of them had three pellets and one had 9) and then the slugs. The damage was more devastating than I thought they would do.

Even AA skeet loads when shot at typical room or hallway distances will be devistating. Due to the short range, the #8 pellets will not seperate from the shot cup, resulting with the wad and pellets entering the "target" through a single entry wound.

Personally, I'm not big on shotguns. But unfortunately, I live in Illinois, a state with extremely restrictive gun laws. Semi auto long guns are heavily restricted here, with the most useful rifles like ARs and (my preference) AKs being outright banned. Manual operation weapons like bolt, lever and pump actions aren't restricted, so I went with a Mossberg Maverick 88.

For static home defense a Shotgun is great, but if a person planned on taking it away from home and might have to use it in a firefight then no the shotgun is not the best choice, The capacity and range isn't the issue in my opinion, its because the ammo is heavy and large that takes up a lot of space, carrying even 50 rounds is a burden, where a AR-15 or pistol caliber carbine carrying that same weight of rounds would equal 100 rounds or more

    • @NavySooner

I love my pistol caliber carbines! They are way fun to shoot and cheaper than AR and AK ammo. I still have powder, primers, and bullets from twenty years ago and reload my 9mm (and 38's and 357's) for pennies a round. The 9mm is fun to watch hitting a milk jug full of water at 100m ( I have S&W, Ruger, and Kel Tec PCC's). My Henry lever in 357 is a hoot!!

A year later I sold it and had a few bucks to add and bought a Marlin Camp Carbine from a friend. My family hated that rifle and begged me to get another hi-point. So I did. Then another year or so later, I thought I would sell it and buy a Kel Tec Sub 2K. They begged me to get the hi-point, again. Then my dad really wanted that one when he was hitting milk jugs at 100m. It had a red dot on it. So I sold that one to him, but I knew better and bought another hi-point. A friend of mine just had to have it because it was so much fun, accurate, and surprisingly reliable. Biggest issue is size of ammo, it's capacity and the learning curve relative to other systems. Everything else is a matter of deciding what's worth the risk. Anything out to 50 yards is an even fight. Slugs can make it even out to 80. For some they can take it to 100. Outside of that, good luck.

Most civil wars have poorly defined front lines. The U.S. civil war of the 1860’s manifested as a typical state Vs state conflict (bloody Kansas being the exception), typical of large separatist movements. Some people call the Ukraine war a Slavic civil war.

Let's talk about real world. I want to make this clear. I have been graced to have just about any kind of firearm you would need to fall back to if needed. AR, shotgun, pistols and long rifles. However, for a defend yourself firearm at the homestead I can think of no other than a short barrel shotgun. No other firearm will end a problem as quick as a 12 gauge shotgun. Even in SHTF you will spend 90% of your time around your home. Meaning that your shotgun would be your primary firearm. Even venturing out the shotgun would be my go to. Why? Because when it really comes unglued, that guy with the AR will get taken out. People don't, for some reason, fear a guy with a shotgun as much as they do the guy with the AR. If you see me at 100 yards with a shotgun you will probably pay me no mind. If I have an AR, you may think to hunt me down and do me harm. Why? Because of fear. When rule of law is gone, people will end the threats by other means. So I would plan on making sure I had various types of tools for when the world changes. I don't think things will be what we think it will when it all goes to hell.
Now let's talk about the guy at 500 yards. If someone has you at 500 yards, your already dead. So it is best to take him out early. See a guy in SHTF with a long rifle, and you think he will turn on you, take him out right away. Never give him the chance. You will find that those guys will be dealt with immediately. In SHTF it will not take long for people to connect long range rifles to out right murder. It will be dealt with. Make no mistake about it. Think about it.
