  • I'm building a stable for a wooden Nativity set. This little project has been on my list for a while. I finally found the correct lumber to get the result I wanted. It turns out old wooden privacy fencing is a good material for a rustic stable.

I wish I had the artistic inspiration to make them, but they were acquired by my folks a few years ago. I built the barn to compliment them.

I built one of these for my Church and 8 more miniatures. I felt like I got more out of it than the people who bought them from our church ladies.

Cool, I get what you mean. I take a lot of pride in my projects, its not always about the end product but more the work it takes to get there.

I have built the three walls and assembled them but now have to build the roof. Please tell me how the ends of each roof section is installed so the other roof sections lay down without sliding off.

each side is in 3 pieces, the first piece has 2 planks with a gap between them large enough for the wall to extend up into the gap, this locks the lower part of the roof panels in place, the second and third one lay in place and rest on the lower ones. @ 2.51 you can see me trimming the wall, I measured it to extend through the first set of roof panels. the panels are tied together with small slates that will fit between the wall panels. " I hope this helps"

Do you think if I didn't have fencing.....but some pallets, can I split each pallete down each end to make 2 squares of "fencing" if turned so the boards are up and down?

Thanks for the video. I’m thinking of building a nativity scene for my church next year. Do you have a video of the characters being built? That’s what Going to be a bit difficult for me to construct. I wanna make this a project for me and my father-in-law. My three sons can help a little too but they’re pretty young I have a one-year-old two-year-old and three-year-old by this time next year they will be a year older.

My mother bought these from an artist who built them out of old lumber and sheet metal, they’re really neat. She asked if I could build her a stable, I had a friend who was tearing down their old privacy fence, so that’s what inspired this project.

Do you have a blueprint for this with cut sizes for the boards and such?

Unfortunately no, I was sorta winging it. I had basic dimensions I was shooting for, each panel was 5 feet x 5 I think. I Laid out a jig of sorts on the floor to make sure my frames were going to line up. I’m more of a build it in my head first and go for it kinda of guy😁
