Part 2 will definitely be a little more darker, you’ll be surprised about what is going to happen with some of the side characters. My advise tho is try to avoid part 2 spoilers, part two is also(not a spoiler) kinda elphaba’s side of the story we’re told in the wizard of oz, not totally but kinda
Part 1 is just the first half of the musical. If you were to see this in a theatre, you would have a 15 min intermission then we get into Act 2. We have about 2 more hours at least of content for part 2.
Part 1 (Act 1 of the musical ) is Elphaba's origin story. It's how she becomes the wicked witch. Part 2 runs in tandem to the Wizard of Oz from her perspective. It will get dark.
Act 2 is way darker and more political. It starts before Dorothy shows up and leads to the witch's melting. No spoilers but oh boy, you're in for some surprises.
The "part one" thing is not a marketing strategy, they loudly proclaimed it on the media ( the director gave a public statement justifying the choice) when it was decided in 2022. Amongst the fans there was even a polemic about it. But by the time they were finally ready it was old news.
@NicEeEe843 You know it is already there for many many years just like FIFA Balon d'Or where journalist, captain and coaches around the world can vote who is the best player of the year.
@@joshuatitanreviewsI don't think you need to: the stage show departed quite a bit from the book, and the films seem to be more based on the stage show. I'd like to see your reaction to Wicked Part 2.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It's REALLY long, but I knew about that going in, and I think Jon Chu made the right decision in splitting it into two parts. The performances were great. I knew that Cynthia Erivo would knock it out of the park. After all, she does have her roots in musical theater. That said, what surprised me most of all was how good Ariana Grande is as Glinda. Not only can she handle the vocal demands of the role, but her acting, in particular her comic timing, is VERY good. I've seen the stage show several times, but was not lucky enough to see the original cast. However, I have seen videos , and Ariana Grande's Glinda is very much influenced by Kristin Chenoweth's take on the character. If I had to criticize one thing, I'd say that I'm not a fan of how they handled Defying Gravity. They took a three and a half minute song and dragged it on for almost 10 minutes. I know it's the climax of the film and they were building things up, but the way they had Elphaba sing, fall, sing again, fly, sing more, fly more, sing the final riff, then fly away, was a bit much. Also, the CGI in the flying scenes wasn't great. As I said in the beginning, I did enjoy it overall, and I think that fans of the stag show will be pleased with the adaptation. I'm excited for part two next year.
The funny thing is the flying wasn't CGI . It was green screen so was surprised that sometimes the cape coloring was off. But i loved the dragged out gravity
I don't think defying gravity was dragged out, it was perfect in my opinion. After all this is the film version. Also most of the flying wasn't CGI. There are featurettes here on UA-cam and a behind the scenes documentary coming out showing that.
I honestly see what you mean and I was going to talk about the length / pace in my review but I did want to watch it again outside of a big fan screening to see how I feel
Part 2 shows us how Boq becomes the tin Man, how fiyero becomes scarecrow, and how that little lion becomes the cowardly Lion. Part 2 shows how/why Nessarose becomes the witch of the East. Part 2 tells you how Madame morrible uses her powers to lure Elphaba back, p and how the wizard and Madame morrible are responsible for Dorothy's house falling on NASA Rose the Wicked witch of the East Part 2 tells you why the wicked witch wants those shoes so badly.
Please put a huge spoiler warning with a large gap in between the warning and the rest of your comment. The fates of these characters are huge spoilers for people who aren't familiar with the Broadway musical

I might have to see the Broadway show now!
Pretty sure the 2nd film will turn up the darker elements quite a bit.

that's what I was wondering because the beginning of this film kinda confused me
Jon M Chu had said there will be a couple new songs; I believe they are in the second part.
ahh good to know

Such a great musical. Ariana and Cynthia were two amazing leads . It was enjoyable to see them interact and they are so opposite

So good!!😊
In my personal POV,
This movie can win the hearts and mind of the critic choice awards.
Damn the standards are that low these days?
