My favourite TMNT cartoon. Closer to the Mirage source material, but different enough to be its own thing. Seasons 3 and 4 were top-notch. It was what got me back into TMNT after forgetting about it through the nineties.
I had no idea that these were getting reissues, so when I walked into Target and saw them on the peg, I freaked out a bit. I grew up with these figures as the 2003 show/toys are the iteration of the turtles I grew up with. It's weird, but also nice to see some figures that cater to us late 90's-2000's kids for a change 😂
Exactly, the 2003 takes the turtles seriously and it's comic book accurate for the most part (up until season 5). The 1987 never made it for me, with the childish models and the basic and repetitive plot. Only the underrated "red sky seasons" showed some grit for a small bit, but again they weren't comic accurate.
I grew up with the 87 turtles but something about the 03 especially being a comic fan really hit home for me. 87 has a special place in my heart but 2003 really had an amazing story especially the first 2 season
I loved the TMNT toys as a kid from the 80s and 90s, but the cartoon was a bit too silly for me. I was in college when the 2003 show premiered and it instantly became my favorite version.

Later, that time i already graduated and found a job, these figures were all sold out and very expensive, so I gave up hunting them.... Then recently I managed to grab these figures, doesn't matter if is reissue, I finally got em....
The TMNT 90s film was my introduction to the series and this was my first TMNT cartoon and i loved every second of it! I also love it cus its more and more like the comic!
Man, I remember dragging my parents round the shops to hunt all these down as a kid! I remember specifically it took forever to find Michaelangelo. Major nostalgia!
Playmates quietly hitting out of the park and proving (along with Motu) that vintage toys can be re-issued and do well at market (Looking at you Hasbro and making excuses).
It's a bummer that Donnie is always depicted as having the "lamest" weapon, as the Bo is actually quite versatile. According to some accounts, the legendary samurai swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, won all of his duels, except for one. Guess which weapon his opponent was using... That's right! A Bo staff! The match ultimately ended in a draw, as neither warrior could overcome the other. Of course, a lot of Miyamoto's life has been exaggerated over the years, so it's hard to tell if this event actually happened. Still, it would be nice to see a Turtles series with both Donnie and his Bo getting some respect.
There's a fan theory that each of the turtles weapons are opposite of their personality in order to teach them balance.Donnie being a genius is given the most simple looking weapon to teach him humility so that he don't underestimate what his minds can do, Ralph a hothead is given sai which is a defensive weapon, Mikey the youngest and seemingly immature given the most complicated weapon and my main man Leo being the most studios and ethical given ninja ken, the weapon with highest destructive potential
I really wish these were available in the UK. A 4 pack of these turtles from Toys R Us were the first action figures I ever got as a kid so would love to own new versions of them but Playmates doesn't seem to want to release them on this side of the world. It's a shame

Maybe there timed releases ???. Cause it makes no sense for playmates to not mass release these like every other turtle cause these sold like hot cakes , playmates would be crazy to not have these in all stores and retailers like every other turtle figure . I picked up Michelangelo 2 weeks ago, but my local Walmarts haven’t restocked the shelves since then. I even drove 50 miles to my nearest Target and they had nothing.
Thank god there are fully paint .I want hose really bad but Canada did not have receine new TMNT rerelease since the Giant Turtle and the pizza launcher figure !!!
I have some of the original 2k3 figures MOC hanging on my wall and your video unlocked an interesting memory for me. I distinctly remember my Donnie came with two bo staffs but the MOC one behind me does not... Turns out they must have made a change back in the day as there are ones with him holding it in package (the one I have) and ones with the bo staffs off to the side like the other turtles. Might have to hunt down an first release Donnie now. 😅

I think I still prefer the color scheme of the actual ones which were released back in 2003, but I'm glad the 2003 series is getting some love. They're probably my favorite version of the turtles!
2003 show came out when I was 18 and it was so cool to see my childhood come back. That sent me on the road to adult collecting. I remember sticking the 03 turtles with the suction cups all over my car windows. I grew up on 87 show but 2003 was so much better, came out at the perfect time for teenagers who grew up on the old school goofy-childish show. 2003 was more mature and more like the mirage comics. Hands down the best tmnt animated series to date. Wish the 87 show stayed grittier like season 1. Can’t wait for super7 2003 ultimates. I need some highly articulated 03 figures.
Aside from the overdone linework on Mikey’s plastron, I’d say these reissues are an improvement on the original. It’s not something said often about Playmates reissues. It will be interesting to see if 2k3 nostalgia takes off. I know Super7 is planning on doing 2k3 turtles I think as soon as the next wave of TMNT Ultimates.
I grew up with the 2003 series/toys and maybe I just forgot because it's been so long, but I wonder if I ever even knew that those extra weapons were meant to be attachments for Donnie's staff lol
I’m seeing a ton of fellow 2003 TMNT fans in the comments here and that’s refreshing. I grew up with the live action movie and this very cartoon series. The 03 incarnation hit at the perfect time. The mix of awesome animation and toys that matched up. Somehow they still payed homages to the past two decades of source material and entertainment.
Great video! I was looking for the retro movie star figures I found Leonardo Raphael and Michelangelo so I had to track down Donatello and then the same thing happened with these 2003 figures and I’m still looking for Donatello.
Didn't see these at Target this morning (I think they look better with the matte finish), but I did find vintage reissue Mutatin' Rocksteady and Bebop there!

I completely missed this Ninja Turtles show, being so infatuated with Anime as i was at-the-time. In fact TMNT was verrrry distant far from my mind, as i was only just then starting to re-visit the earlier 80s staples like... T-frmrs, He-Man, M.A.S.K., Thndr Cats, Voltron, Galxy Rangrs, Sabr Ridr, etc. I guess the early 90s just burned-out TMNT so bad that it became absolute trash by Y2K. IN THE YEAR 2000... no turtles i see. 🤷♂️
I remember having Splinter from this 2003 line, such a great collection! It's great that Playmates has brought them back, they could have used those knee joints tho, but amazing figures still!
2003 TMNT was the peak of this franchise. That cartoon was perfect. Loved the toyline aswell. We need more 2003 TMNT figures from toy companies. To be honest i am getting tired of 1988 cartoon and 1990 movie turtles. We need 2k3 turtles!

I've been hunting for these, but so far... No luck. I am gonna keep the faith that I will find these. I missed out on these back in the day, since I wasn't into action figure collecting at the time, but I made my grand re-entry to that in early 2012, so months before the 2012 TMNT series came out. I did recently acquire a 2003 April in its original package at a toy show I went to last October & I'm thinking about keeping it packaged pending on whether or not 2003 April gets a re-release eventually. With the 2003 turtles re-released, I'm hoping this'll open the door for re-releases of at least the following... -Splinter -Casey Jones -April O'Neil -Hun -Foot Soldier -Shredder (basic or armored) I'm willing to bet that the Fast Forward turtles may come later on for re-release. I would also say 2007, but I heard those molds were destroyed. I'm also hoping that Playmates will do 6 inch 2003 Classic turtles & also NECA & The Loyal Subjects jump on the bandwagon.

I had ZERO idea these were coming out until I went to Walmart today and my brain 404 error'd upon seeing these, had to remind myself what year it was. I have so much nostalgia remembering these all over Walmart and Dollar General store shelves when I was a kid, definitely gonna have to pick these up when i can get the money
Isn't Super7 doing Ultimates of the 2k3 series soon? I can't remember which interview I heard that in. That possibility has me really excited - but cautiously excited - because, you know - Super7. Fingers crossed. But for the money, these are awesome throwbacks that definitely scratch the nostalgia itch!!!
I'm kinda discovering the world of motu, since i'm not an 80's kid. But I really love it so far. I have a question. The masterverse line is really appealing to me. It's advertised for kids 6 and up. But are these figures really durable enough to withstand child's play?😅 (Say "mild bashing")?
I mean Super7 is doing TMNT 2003 figures for Ultimates! I kind of hope itll be toyline based even though my nostalgia lies more within the cartoon than the figure pics I saw and my own 03 Turtles, because Double Joints are a thing Id love to see on 03 figures based on the cartoon, and sadly Super7 hasnt done that with their Ultimates. My one Quality nitpick about Ultimates. I honestly think you're right about the lack of attention that 03 gets because its definitely an awesome era and an almost direct callback to many plot points and issues from Mirage, such as City At War, Return To New York, Sons Of The Silent Age, and many more. Its because of that series that not only am I super into Mirage comics but comic books in general! And im glad that its getting some attention. Even though I personally am not a fan of the reissues and wish Playmates would instead make a TMNT Origins line, it still makes me joyous to see these figures. Thanks for the review Dan! For some reason, these Turtles never appeal to me. Could it be due to of age? No, I dont think so, cause the 2012 figures really got my interest, esp with their kind of "worn" an scattered look. I know I grabbed some of them (2003 vers) at random flee markets, but I think I sold them off to a dude that has this kind of store where you can find all kind of nostalgic junk 😐 Swapped at least one of them for a vintage Rocksteady.
Still have the original 4 turtles, Shredder and Splinter from 2003, mint in card. I was able to get Casey and April but loose and missing some accessories
When I first saw these toys, I knew I had to have them. Though we didn't get much in the way of articulation, they can stand better than the old ones from 1988. While the turtles didn't look show accurate, the details on each figure were amazing, even today. And as if that wasn't enough, they went above and beyond by painting the weapons and giving us new amd fun accessories. I have already since given my originals to my cousin. I have noticed some slight differences with these new ones, like the size of Mikey's eyes and slightly different color tones. But for the most part, they pretty much look the same as those figures, over 20 years later. Wasn't going to buy these. But I couldn't resist. I already got Leo and just need the rest of the turtles. Feels like 2003 all over again.
OMG. So cool! I litterally just pulled out the playset for my son. Turtle Den and all! Knowing it is relaunched is great. I can replace lost pieces now!
I’ve seen people posting in the Facebook groups that they’ve found these. I personally haven’t seen them yet, and I’m not all that familiar with the various post-90s reboots that TMNT went through, but I do have to say these versions look pretty awesome! ~Damon
The 2003 reissues are still hard to find. I found mine at Walmart but if you try to look on the websites depending what part of the country you live in, you can’t even order them. I recently bought a 2003 boxed Raphael for 45 bucks. What a time we live in
I really wonder whats up with Playmates not being able to mimic Raphael's green. The older rereleases and these too have such an "off" look in regards to Raph's green.
These are my turtles, i watched the show i had some of the figures. I remember one Christmas i got the truck/van and the helicopter from this line. I would love to track these figures down.

This is the era of TMNT I grew up with. My first TMNT figure ever was '03 Donnie, and from then on he has been my favorite turtle.

T-frmrs, He-Man, M.A.S.K., Thndr Cats, Voltron, Galxy Rangrs, Sabr Ridr, etc. I guess the early 90s just burned-out TMNT so bad that it became absolute trash by Y2K. IN THE YEAR 2000... no turtles i see. 🤷♂️
I remember having Splinter from this 2003 line, such a great collection! It's great that Playmates has brought them back, they could have used those knee joints tho, but amazing figures still!
2003 TMNT was the peak of this franchise. That cartoon was perfect.
Loved the toyline aswell. We need more 2003 TMNT figures from toy companies. To be honest i am getting tired of 1988 cartoon and 1990 movie turtles. We need 2k3 turtles!

I missed out on these back in the day, since I wasn't into action figure collecting at the time, but I made my grand re-entry to that in early 2012, so months before the 2012 TMNT series came out.
I did recently acquire a 2003 April in its original package at a toy show I went to last October & I'm thinking about keeping it packaged pending on whether or not 2003 April gets a re-release eventually.
With the 2003 turtles re-released, I'm hoping this'll open the door for re-releases of at least the following...
-Splinter
-Casey Jones
-April O'Neil
-Hun
-Foot Soldier
-Shredder (basic or armored)
I'm willing to bet that the Fast Forward turtles may come later on for re-release.
I would also say 2007, but I heard those molds were destroyed.
I'm also hoping that Playmates will do 6 inch 2003 Classic turtles & also NECA & The Loyal Subjects jump on the bandwagon.

I had ZERO idea these were coming out until I went to Walmart today and my brain 404 error'd upon seeing these, had to remind myself what year it was. I have so much nostalgia remembering these all over Walmart and Dollar General store shelves when I was a kid, definitely gonna have to pick these up when i can get the money
Isn't Super7 doing Ultimates of the 2k3 series soon? I can't remember which interview I heard that in. That possibility has me really excited - but cautiously excited - because, you know - Super7. Fingers crossed. But for the money, these are awesome throwbacks that definitely scratch the nostalgia itch!!!
I'm kinda discovering the world of motu, since i'm not an 80's kid. But I really love it so far. I have a question. The masterverse line is really appealing to me. It's advertised for kids 6 and up. But are these figures really durable enough to withstand child's play?😅 (Say "mild bashing")?

I mean Super7 is doing TMNT 2003 figures for Ultimates! I kind of hope itll be toyline based even though my nostalgia lies more within the cartoon than the figure pics I saw and my own 03 Turtles, because Double Joints are a thing Id love to see on 03 figures based on the cartoon, and sadly Super7 hasnt done that with their Ultimates. My one Quality nitpick about Ultimates.
I honestly think you're right about the lack of attention that 03 gets because its definitely an awesome era and an almost direct callback to many plot points and issues from Mirage, such as City At War, Return To New York, Sons Of The Silent Age, and many more. Its because of that series that not only am I super into Mirage comics but comic books in general! And im glad that its getting some attention. Even though I personally am not a fan of the reissues and wish Playmates would instead make a TMNT Origins line, it still makes me joyous to see these figures. Thanks for the review Dan! This one especially brightened my day
For some reason, these Turtles never appeal to me.
Could it be due to of age? No, I dont think so, cause the 2012 figures really got my interest, esp with their kind of "worn" an scattered look.
I know I grabbed some of them (2003 vers) at random flee markets, but I think I sold them off to a dude that has this kind of store where you can find all kind of nostalgic junk 😐
Swapped at least one of them for a vintage Rocksteady.
Still have the original 4 turtles, Shredder and Splinter from 2003, mint in card. I was able to get Casey and April but loose and missing some accessories

When I first saw these toys, I knew I had to have them. Though we didn't get much in the way of articulation, they can stand better than the old ones from 1988. While the turtles didn't look show accurate, the details on each figure were amazing, even today. And as if that wasn't enough, they went above and beyond by painting the weapons and giving us new amd fun accessories. I have already since given my originals to my cousin.
I have noticed some slight differences with these new ones, like the size of Mikey's eyes and slightly different color tones. But for the most part, they pretty much look the same as those figures, over 20 years later. Wasn't going to buy these. But I couldn't resist. I already got Leo and just need the rest of the turtles. Feels like 2003 all over again.
they look great but way too expensive. I live in europe and they cost around 80 eur each which is crazy
OMG. So cool! I litterally just pulled out the playset for my son. Turtle Den and all! Knowing it is relaunched is great. I can replace lost pieces now!
I can remember thinking “Wow, these are like Marvel Legends quality” when they came out! Good times.
I’ve seen people posting in the Facebook groups that they’ve found these. I personally haven’t seen them yet, and I’m not all that familiar with the various post-90s reboots that TMNT went through, but I do have to say these versions look pretty awesome!

The 2003 reissues are still hard to find. I found mine at Walmart but if you try to look on the websites depending what part of the country you live in, you can’t even order them. I recently bought a 2003 boxed Raphael for 45 bucks. What a time we live in
Toys look nothing like the 2003 show designs... We needed new molds not reissues of crap.
I really wonder whats up with Playmates not being able to mimic Raphael's green. The older rereleases and these too have such an "off" look in regards to Raph's green.
These are my turtles, i watched the show i had some of the figures. I remember one Christmas i got the truck/van and the helicopter from this line. I would love to track these figures down.
These were the best figs and the best cartoon...may have to grab these. And Donnie can kill you with a stick, making him the coolest turtle by far!
