He gave a master class in acting during his time on Outlander where he portrayed 2 interesting & complex characters.
I would liked to have seen that! His characters are so strikingly contrasted on that show! Outlander fan here!! 💜💛💚♥️
d miller and now I can’t look at him without thinking he is evil
He doesn’t get enough credit for this! He portrayed a super nice guy and the most evil, vile man at the same time!
@@tia323araceli you are so right about that!! 🙂🙃
He deserved to win an Oscar.
No one is saying it, but I never realized how good of an interviewer Seth Meyers is. He switches topics with ease, he draws out insight from the guest and he just seems so involved!
Nico Barrett he’s tremendously underrated
One of the best talkshow host interviewers, not that it's saying much..
Yes and he actively listens.
I say it. He and Conan are the best late night interviewers on now. Conan is just sillier.
@@greyerbaby3323 This is key.
Tobias Menzies interpretation is more realistic to the real man, than Matt Smith's. Smith's interpretation was interesting, But Menzies's voice and and mannerisms are a lot more like Prince Philip's. Very spot on, He's an amazing actor!
I think it's also got something to do with the fact that most of us were not around, when Prince Philip was in his 20s, so we are less familiar with young Philip. Maybe Matt was spot on, but we will never know, because in all the interviews and speeches we know of Philip, he is a lot older. Just guessing, though...
@@MsCorpora agree, he was wilder in his 20's and 30's
Cuitlam Molina
I agree, Tobias absolutely nailed Philip’s voice and mannerisms. I was super impressed.
Cuz you know all involved, right?
Ohhhh damnn good thought but person, I loved both, I think personally Matt Smith portrayed young Phillip really well tbh.
Edmure Tully, you finally got to talk.
I totally forgot his role in GOT, and remembered his role in Austin's Persuasion. 😂
Also brutus from rome
They could not resist him.
I just realized that was him.
I feel really dumb because I just now realized he was him!!
Yeah he's good in "the crown" but Menzies is freaking mindblowing in "Outlander"
Yeah in the Crown he doesn't have much to do, but in Outlander he really gets to show what he's made of, and kills it! This man will get an Oscar one day.
Thank you for saying that!
I miss him in Outlander : He made me fall in love with Frank Randall, feel sympathetic towards him to feeling absolutely sick to my stomach watching him as Black Jack Randall ! WOW
Also, He's really handsome !
He was amazing.. cause I hated him.. for what he did to Jaime.. urghhh
@@monmothma3358 have you seen the Crown? He has a significant supporting part and a couple of episodes from season 3 are ABOUT the character he plays, Prince Phillip. I'll have to watch Outlander. But I completely disagree with you on his role in the Crown.
@@irshgrl500 Fine, but I meant relatively speaking. He's very good in The Crown, and I'm a huge fan of his in general. I think you'll know what I mean when you see Outlander, though. For one, he plays two characters, who are very different, and gives them both nuances. Playing Prince Phillip could never represent that kind of challenge.
What a treat for the eyes and ears this man is. Such a brilliant actor.
ACS402010 agreed!! 😍
Yup. His voice is killing it.
Sarah Scho
The voice, the smile and agree brilliant actor. More roles coming hopefully. Can hardly wait for “Beth and Don” and “Manhunt”. Then a Green Lantern nemesis wow
Tobias talking about the corgi’s is so adorable omg
He's just a man talking about two dogs. Get a grip.
vee kay why you mad ? chill lmao
It was. Lol
So hot and approachable . Handsome and cannot figure out who he is dating .
@@jancameron-swalley3047 Maybe he's not dating anyone..is alone...sometimes is better to be alone...
He was so good as Prince Phillip!! Episode 8 was absolutely brilliant. Almost stole Olivia's thunder which for me is a huge compliment. I like how his performance is different from Matt's but in essence feels like the same character at a different point in life.
For me hes the best thing of the season..... That episode with the moon landings was utterly brilliant!
Maliha Intikhab Matt was the still rebel/carefree/full of wonder Prince Phillip, Tobias is the mature/adapted/secured version of him. Both great actors. Very happy that he got the role, been a fan from GOT/Outlander/Rome and now this.
Tobias was excellent as Philip! His speech style was so close to real Philip, I loved it. Olivia‘s performance was different, very much her own thing and less like the real queen. Margaret was...underwhelming. But I was AMAZED by Princess Anne and Prince Charles, wow! They looked and sounded exactly like them!
@@MsCorpora I completely agree. I feel like maybe it was my fault, I expected way too much from Helena's Margaret. We were also kind of led to believe that her character would be in the season more than it actually was. Anne and Charles could not be more perfect! Charles Dance was brilliant too as he always is.
@@TalkAsSoftAsChalk Agreed. Charles Dance was born to play prideful people of power like Tywin and Mountbatten.
This man is ridiculously hot
I agree
M Mlas totally
Agree
Watch Outlander and you'll never be able to look at him again hes so nasty and creepy
@@JesterquestYT What makes you think that people can't see his appeal after having seen him in Outlander? I saw it. Still think he, the actor, the HUMAN, is appealing. Guess I can discern the difference between character and real.
Jesus Christ, the man is gorgeous. And he seems to be very nice. I'd love to meet him one day.
Agreed 💯, he is one of those great actors who also take the time to read and like/reply to tweets ♥️💚💛💜
I had the chance to meet him in my village while they were filming the Aberfan episode he was fantastic and was happy to have photos taken with him between takes and chat he's so down to earth lovely man
@@carlgriffiths8482 Jealous of you :D
Bad luck, some people think he is gorgeous.
@Selma De Faria Maybe "gorgeous" is subjective, but he has that certain something about him. You would turn around for people like him if you saw them on the street. Men don't have to be that beautiful in the classic sense of this word.
I love how much British humor he had. Especially when he said Matt smith? Never heard of him and the audience didn’t quite get it but he followed it up by saying he was actually a big fan. I can’t talk though I’ve also been the American who didn’t get inconspicuous sarcasm right away
I think 'small r republican' was also a lost reference on the audience.
I think the things is we understand the sarcasm only if there is a cue to the audience that he is joking, like an exaggerated tone or smile at the end. When I heard it I was like oh he’s joking but on second thought is he? And when Seth joked along and brought it up again that’s how I knew for sure. Also, Americans don’t hold a straight face for too long when being sarcastic or else others may take us seriously. So when British people do it, it makes it hard to tell.
TBH it gets us into a lot of trouble because people just assume we're being assholes.
Bless the Americans struggling with subtle and underhand humour. This is why I find most Americans comedies SO unfunny - the jokes have to be completely TELEGRAPHED in, often very ham-fistedly
It probably helps because he's British. 😉
Very disappointed that Outlander wasn't mentioned. His 2 characters that he played on that show are very complicated men.
Can't mention everything, and seems Seth was talking about the work he has actually seen.
Mike Campbell Seth watched Game of Thrones and Tobias was in it.
These interviews on talk shows are not about the guests being interviewed, they are about the talk show host...
I got very upset that he didn´t mention Outlander.
He deserved an Emmy.
Actors like this will never stop working. He´s good at anything.
Tob
Rome, Outlander, Them thrones, The terror and other amazing but less famous projects. Always different, always fresh. The voice, the mannerism and the talent: what an Actor.
The night manager!
@@Sammy251525 I like his role in the Honourable woman, not his usual character.
And the night manager! Played a bad guy
Would you expect less from a RADA trained actor ?
Menzies is nominateeeed
I simply love this guy, such a qualified actor so versatile with a beautiful voice and exceptionally talented. I have to admit I noticed him for the first time in Outlander but since then I see him everywhere. It's such a pleasure watching him act, and he does it so well, In Outlander, acting on two opposite poles as almost the same person was such a pleasure to see, two people with such diverse characters. A very talented and exceptional actor, an incredibly dynamic actor.
His scene in The Crown episode "Faith" when he's talking to the vicar is sublime and so touching. As soon as he said "Help, help me" I welled up crying. That scene won him his well-deserved Emmy award. Brilliant actor. He is right up there with Daniel Day-Lewis, IMHO.
omg that scene is my favorite! of all tv shows i’ve watched, possibly. it was so heart wrenching, raw, but yet beautiful for me. i didnt cry but i feel really emotional. up until this day, i still have a clip in my phone, just to rewatch it. somehow it makes me feel okay haha.
He’s as good as the late Alan Rickman, IMO. Love them both.
Never thought i’d see the day Edmure Tully become the nephew of Tywin Lannister.
He was amazing as Brutus on Rome. I’m glad he is getting more popular. He is a great actor
Tobias Menzies is such an awesome, charismatic and great actor, it hasn't been mentioned what a huge interpretation he has given in Outlander like Franck/Jack Randall!!🥰🥰🥰
He was AMAZING in Outlander..
Jack Black Randal he makes love evil!
@@lithiumeve Yep, black Jack Randal... what an incredibly complicated, well written character!
He was the best in Outlander.
I agree, Tobais Menzies was absolutely enthralling in Outlander. I have never been so disgusted as the character he portrayed as Officer Jack Randall whom I despise so much. I really fell for it hook, line, sinker --- I would be thinking about how the damn character just wouldn't die already. Had to look up Tobais ' filmography - I can't wait to watch other movies he has done - he is an A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. actor. If I ever meet him, I will be so honored to just shake his hand. I loved how he could with the tiniest detail of emotion flicker across his face: eyebrows, lips, tongue, hand gesture... it was purely epic. Watching Outland again for the 4th time now.
He looks like he could be Tom Holland's dad.
😱🤯 mind blown
Can’t unsee that resemblance now
They’ve gotta play dad + son in something now!
I want him to be my daddy
Tobias Menzies. One of the most talented actors out there. Looking forward to watching his work on The Crown.
ShanSee Herd He’s great!
One of my favourite actors! He'll always be Brutus to me.
Jon Dundas Me too, but I did enjoy 😊 The Terror.
Rome was one of the finest series HBO ever did. Everyone was superb in their roles and Tobias Menzies was my favorite portrayal. His Brutus was a tragic figure.
The "never heard of him" was very Philip, I don't think the audience got the joke 😂
Love him... outlander 😍😍😍😍
💜💛💚♥️👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Could we just have Tobias say, "Corgis" forever please
He is soooo goodlooking! I never realized this while watching Game of Thrones 😂
Magnificent actor. I love the fact that Seth also mentioned lesser known (at least in the US) shows like Catastrophe and This Way Up.
He’s awesome , thanks for having him on
This man is an amazing actor who needs to be in everything !
He is in everything.
Such a privilege to watch Tobias' superb performances in both Outlander and The Crown. I'd love to see him in more and more big roles.
It has to be said yet again that Seth Myers is a wonderful host: charming, witty, interested in what most of his guests have to say and.......he listens.
Absolutely love Tobias Menzies! He's underrated for a very long time
i liked him more as prince phillip than matt smith.. totally forgot about how i despised him as a character in outlander lol
Tobias was my first Hamlet at Northampton Royal and Derngate around 2005. Needless to say he was fantastic and the best I’ve seen yet.
That was the absolute most I have ever heard the word 'corgi' in a 30 second period....
And it was absolutely glorious 🙌🏽
Menzies was so good in Rome. He played Brutus extremely well
Finally! Yes! He was Brutus before GOT, The Crown, and Outlander! I'm watching it again now he looks soooo young
In Episode 10 of Season 4 he compares Thatcher’s downfall to Brutus and the Ides of March. Coincidence? I think not!
@@michaelpbuttigieg I know! I was like I see you lol only true fans probably know
@@armygirl85fuckhitler74 He's much more handsome now..he gets better with time.
His acting in one of his last scenes in The Terror was some of the best acting and dialogue in anything, ever
Agreed. I loved The Terror and he and Jared Harris were brilliant!
His small role in Catastrophe was comedy gold, I've always liked him!
I think he's a phenomenal actor and very charismatic...also undeniably attractive!
Thats a good interview. When you know the actors' work and the show hes in
And you ask good questions
He was great as Brutus in HBO's Rome.
He really was.
Paul Lynch Tobias seem really well like by HBO Rome/GOT and Netflix Outlander/The Queen.
He was so fun in Catastrophe! Played the straight face to perfection 😂😂
Tobías Menzi is an amazing actor 👏👏👏👏👏
He needs a lot of recognition as the brilliant actor he is. I love and miss Frank. Tobias is a genius and a amazing human being. ❤️
He’s so handsome and a fantastic actor.
He’s a beautiful human
fair fair
Finally, finally more people can acknowledge how good he is at acting. Knew him from Rome, never let me down ever since.
Btw, for people don't get the don't know Matt Smith joke. They toured UK playing The History Boys.
Vera Fang I’m not British and I got that he was sarcastic.
He's such a great actor-- it's been so neat seeing him in SO MANY shows the past 5 years or so!
the way he says corgi... is so freaking adorable
Tobias delivered amazing performance!
Don’t know what it is, but he is so attractive but in like a unique way. I’ve never seen anyone with eyes like his before. But dang, he is just 😍😍
He still gives me chills after outlander
He is an outstanding actor and kind of hot
Agree
Watching Season1: ugh, Phillip! So annoying.
Watching Season2: ugh, Phillip! So controlling.
Watching Season3: ugh, Phillip! So loving and adorable husband. ❤🥰
What a great actor he is
Finally, I've been waiting for some proper interviews with him, he just so lovely and cute as hell
What a fantastic actor, Saw him for the first time on outlander recently, this guy is underrated in my opinion.
He was Brutus is HBO’s Rome. Guess who his character murdered? Anyone here seen Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” ? He played Mr. Elliot, Anne’s suitor, and more importantly, cousin.
Thank you! I had to scroll too long to find comment about this!!
Which "Persuasion"? I'm only familiar with the Amanda Root/Ciaran Hinds version. Incidentally, the Mr. Elliot in that version, Samuel West, played Anthony Blunt in the Crown S3:E1. He and Tobias had a very tense scene at the end. Didn't realize it was two Mr. Elliots in one scene.
@@rachelarruda-decell7244 the 2007 itv version with Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones.
chen2xleon haven’t watch Persuasion but I will. Seen Tobias in Rome, Game of Thrones, Outlander and now The Queen.
@@rachelarruda-decell7244 It was epic. I wonder if the two actors realized it.
Who else came here to see all the Outlander fans like myself?!? Love ya 😘 Mr Frank Randall...♥️💚💛💜
There is a part of me that wants to see a reality TV show of Helena Bonham Carter and Tobias Menzie as roommates....but she's acting as Bellatrix Lestrange and he's Brutus and all the other British/Irish/Welsh/Scottish actors they meet are also in famous roles they've done.
Him as captain randall from outlander...
Housemates. Not roommates.
Don’t forget English 😉
His voice is sooo hmmmm makes you melted
Lol Tobias was so surprised when Seth mentioned he'd been a fan of his since Rome 4:30 he was like oh wow
He will forever be Brutus to me. Rome had so many great actors and performances.
" *WE NEED OUR MEN MORE THAN TYWIN LANNISTER NEEDS HIS* "
Thank you for that. I'm not sure I would have realised he played Edmure.
a great actor and such a sweet person 💖 so happy seth made him laugh! :D
Loved him as Marcus Junius Brutus in HBO's Rome.
ok i love the way he pronounces "corgi"
Tobias I love him. He's so amazing, brilliant actor. Please watch him you will be blown away
What an actor, what a man!
He was phenomenal in episode 7. I still can't get over it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤❤❤❤
He is very handsome☺️
He is such a great actor and so underrated, glad that hes been in a lot of stuff in the last few years, if anyone hasn't seen the Terror or Hbo's Rome please go watch them.
This guy is the best thing in season 3.
cbmtrx He’s wonderful but I also thought the actor playing Charles and Helena Bonham Carter were too.
Seth mentioned Catastrophe and This Way Up 😭❤️ That’s actually what I saw him in first, as well as The Terror.
This way up was so good
Any clue if there'll be another season? It doesn't air in my country, so I just found to because I adore Aisling Bea, but I have no clue if there'll be more
Stephanie No idea 😭 but fingers crossed! 🤞🏻
@@stephjovi There will be more! It was renewed in November 2019 for a second season and will start filming on January 2021. I love this show, the writing was superb and very witty, the struggles by all the characters were very relatable and well acted. Incredibly raw and realistic portrayal of mental illness that steers away from cliches or stigmatization, which is extremely hard to do. Can't wait for season 2.
1:40
I always found it funny how he took over from Matt Smith because he was in an episode of Doctor who called Cold War
Wonderful interview! He's such an amazing (and attractive) human being and actor.
Love corgis!! And definitely love the way he says the word Corgi 🥰
Like Coggie! I love this)
They could be brothers! Definitely a resemblance! Tobias is so cute though and an outstanding and underrated actor. He oozes class as well 😍
Brilliant actor, great interviewer that Seth!
He was great in Rome and for his small part as Edmure. The scene with he and Nikolaj is fantastic.
Diane Upshaw the dialogue between them...talking about their sisters. I was hoping he was going to be use more in the finale season.
As was I. I was hoping to hear more about how Jaime and Lysa met when they were younger and Tywin and Hoster were discussing marrying the two. Jaime finds Lysa dull, but thinks Cat is interesting. Still, neither compare to Cersei in his mind. I thought that information would have put a little more clarity on Jaime's story as a whole and the kind of hold that Cersei had on him from a very young age and how that dictated most of his life decisions.
I love tobias Menzies . He played William Elliot in persuasion and I watch it at least twice a month.
What???!!! Not one word about Outlander and my favorite character Black Jack Randall???!!! He was superb in that role.
Am I the only one who thinks Tobias Menzies and Seth Meyers look alike?
Jose Escobedo He’s Hugh Grant and Menzies’ love child
They really do. 😂
I want more of his interview!
And the actor who played Prince Charles, too!
Oh yes! Josh was amazing as Prince Charles! Love him❤
Watching 1/4/21 as I’m catching up with The Crown..Sorry never heard of him until crown ...🤦🏼♀️ Love this interview it just flows.Great interview! Easy to watch.Seths good even better with a great guest!
Tobias Menzies: discussing Netflix and chilling.
Me: If its on a kitchen table in a dilapidated Scottish castle he already has my password.
Moondust... what a performance.
I love Tobias! He was SO GOOD in Rome (the HBO version) as Brutus.
Seth Meyers: The Crown, some other shows.
Comment Section: GAME OF THRONES, OUTLANDER!
Oh man, Black Jack Randall......he was a horrible character and he played the hell out of him
Rome.
Me literally. I was screaming Game of fukkin Thrones!!!
Buenomars ROOOOOOOOME!!!!!! (And the terror)
He's brilliant in all characters Outlander, Rome, Game of Thrones, Terror. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The joke about Matt Smith is that Doctor Who is one of the biggest programs in British history, and more niche Sci Fi in the US.
He's kinda mix of Ryan Reynolds and Daniel Jones of Savage Garden.😍Such a great man.
so underrateda!Elegant,Charming and talented Tobias 💋❤
You know he’s a good actor when he seems totally different than the character he played.
He was also in Outlander and Game of Thrones. Seth seems to forget those big shows.
E Phelps I disagree. Meyers said he’d been a fan for a long time so presumably he’s seen Menzies in those shows. The actor was there to promote The Crown so that’s what they talked about.
Maybe because they're big enough, they don't need the publicity and maybe he felt like slightly more unknown gems like The Terror and Catastrophe deserved to be mentionned?!
I LOVE his smile!
This was def 1 One of Seth's favourite interviews ! 😂
The most beautiful and talented rectangle in the world 💜💜💜
He looks like an older Tom Holland (or Tom Holland looks like a younger him).
Luthor Bratt I love both of them but I don’t see it. Not trying to be contrary. Genuinely curious how they resemble each other?
My fave actor these days!
Learn about him through The Terror, now I'm set on binge watching all his shows
