    Bill Whitaker is correct on two points. 1.) It's not genetics. 2.) It is the food. Studies have shown that when Africans eat the standard American diet (SAD) which is high in salt, fat, sugar, and extremely processed, their triglycerides increase, blood pressure increases, risks of diabetes and colon cancer increase; the converse is also true. When black Americans were given a typical African diet which is high in fiber, fruits, veg, negative markers for disease and obesity dropped plus their gut health improved. The fast-food industry and junk food advertising insidiously target minority populations with a focus on the cheap but to the detriment of their health and the health of their communities. You cannot have a conversation on racism and health without first addressing the diet. That there is a grocery store in a food desert is positive and there needs to be many more, but unless and until people change their diets and eliminate the sodas and ultra-processed foods, until regulations are implemented that ban junk food marketing directed at kids (hijacking their brains and creating addiction), until everyone (re)learns how to cook and how to feed their bodies, there won't be meaningful long-term change on the health front.

      You're right about some points, and i AGREE. But it's numerical, black people are at a disadvantage and as much as it is taboo. It's racism. Racism is just a setup. Most black people have to work extra hours because of where they were put '' ghettos '' AND also from what they had to consume while they were in the ghetto , to catch up , trying to move on up. 99cent stores, corner store , McDonald's, Wendy's ' etc ... . because it's convenient and CHEAP. People in the ghetto's don't come with silver spoons, whatever's there is what they eat. It's food and they're lucky to even eat sometimes just because of how tight their situation is... Everything around the ghetto is not good for people in those predicaments except that pathway on towards the '' Brighter '' side but while they're in that predicament they have to consume what's around them. Organic food costs alot, and they have to pay bills. So , cheap food is what were eating kids. So, over time their nutritional profile get messed up , and in turn you see a bunch of kids that are unable to think, or even act like '' Normal kids '' hence , like the autistic kid in the video and many more who suffer from adhd, parkinson's etc , and yes, it is genetic because the kid is CLEARLY at a disadvantage. What the mother eats , the kids reap the effects of. It's a setup at the end of the day. It's clever but anyone whose honest and has intellect can see how America has set it up ... Ironic , the word setup .

    It's consolidation of wealth. White European decent Americans have had 300+ years to pass on wealth to their children. African Americans have only had 150+ since they were emancipated and 70+ since MLK. The two demographics did not have the same starting place. Less time = Less money = Less healthcare = More negative health outcomes.

    • @MsGrandunion
      @MsGrandunion 3 роки тому

      not really. Its all down to culture. How many African Americans vegetarians or vegans do you know? Not many, if any. The prevailing AA culture involved eating meat every day, and its all fried or processed. No vegetables except for ketchup! And that is a real expensive way to eat. One takeout meal of burger, fries, and soda costs the same amount as you can spend making veggie meals for a week. Fried and processed meat is the #1 cause of high blood pressure and obesity, and soda is linked to diabetes. But people don't care. In my hood there is no grocery store for miles, but we got maybe 20 burger or chicken places. People think that its a good thing, but thats not true.

    • @Xokken333
      @Xokken333 3 роки тому

      @@MsGrandunion There's multiple causes I don't think you can boil it down to one. I'm sure culture has a big impact as well but it's cheaper to eat processed food, processed food is bad for you, and you'll have more negative health consequences. In general if you have less money, your pantry is going to have more garbage in it.

    • @MsGrandunion
      @MsGrandunion 3 роки тому +1

      @@Xokken333 i think we are saying the same thing, but in opposite ways!
      So a portion of takeout fries costs roughly the same as a 5lb bag of potatoes, which can last all week. But the takeout culture stops many people from even thinking about cooking regular meals.
      Also the food desert situation is a huge problem. Why go to the store when its two or three buses each direction and it takes all day? There has been a reluctance from the big corporations to build stores in poor neighborhoods, and in effect, that keeps the community poor and unhealthy. It will be interesting to see how that project in Atlanta works out, as its challenging this problem by making healthy food accessible to a community that likely never had it before.

    WHITE SUPREMACY & TOKENISM IN THE AMERICAN MEDICAL & THERAPY LOCATIONS: Real experiences: My child is special needs, and we've faced years of Dept of Education ignoring us and 75% of the special needs therapists being racist (overt and covert) with us. In the feeding therapy, we were forced out of program days into a multi-month program due to racism and unprofessionalism. In the ER and regular hospital scenarios, we've had doctors and nurses lie to us, belittle us, walk away from us, not give us pain meds (prior to surgeries and before entering the surgery room), and gaslight us. Although there are some positive experiences, for the most part, we try not to go to a medical institution or therapy clinic. Not because we don't love ourselves and desire to live, but because often the medical and therapeutic experiences are just as traumatizing as the medical, etc. challenges we are experiencing prior to entering the "Medical and Therapy White Supremacist, classist hells"

Remember hearing somewhere that nurses and doctors, especially if they were of a different ethnicity, tended to play down their patience expression of pain and not believing their pain they was trying to communicate was as bad as the patient said. I would be careful to tribute this phenomenon solely to racism (as with most other issues), and in some way am willing to give nurses and doctors the benefit of the doubt. Because the study also went in to how the expression of pain actually differed between ethnic groups, and I can then see a component of their inability to judge the painlevel of patients with different ethnicity in some ways has its root in that it's harder to understand the unfamiliar, since its harder to put yourself in the patients shoes when you practically can't due to lack of understanding. But where the racist part comes in is when the health care staff are unable/unwilling to listen to the patient without the assumption that they are exaggerating their pain without any concrete evidence. And also the unwillingness to see this problem and learn from it is where in my mind becomes visibly racist.

      But to me these are more secondary health issues brought on by racism. Are you aware of any primary ones? What comes to my mind when speculating about these are that I would be surprised if there aren't some significant psycho-somatic long-term effects of experiencing racism, in a similar way that we today have quite a lot of scientific evidence pointing to that social exclusion and loneliness can reduce your life expectancy of about 10 years (I'm not 100% sure about that number though).

    What a ridiculous story. 60 Minutes should be ashamed. I was an RN for 40 years and I can tell you exactly why Blacks are more prone to health issues. It has nothing to do with racism and has nothing to do with genetics. It has to do with CHOICES. Many (not all) smoke, drink alcohol, eat spicy foods, diet is not well balanced, and get very little exercise. Sometimes, they seem to delay getting health issues addressed by professionals. This last one could be due to lack of monies and can't afford medical care. However, I believe every State has Medicaid. Meaning there really is no excuse not to be treated. Nobody in America lacks having choices for healthcare - regardless of what politicians tell you. Medicaid is NOT substandard care. Many black physicians don't return to the black community to serve the black population. That's unfortunate, because black physicians are just as good as any other physician of color. Many people use the ER physician as their primary care physician. Hospitals cannot turn away anyone that comes through their doors (that's the law). 60 Minutes need different people doing their research (without political biases) and leave out their personal "opinion" which is not based on FACT. It's said that if you repeat a lie enough times, people begin to believe it.

    • @MsGrandunion
      @MsGrandunion 3 роки тому

      I totally agree. I also see patients with terrible diets, because of local culture. You don't see the same health issues in the new immigrant communities as they continue to eat the healthy foods they had back home. Americans just swing by MacDonalds and tuck into a burger, fries and soda, without any thought at all for the vitamin or mineral content of what they eat.

But if a Doctor chooses to give me subpar care lying telling me my insurance won't cover certain tests or even going so far as to say oh there's no tests for that---What is one to do??? I shouldn't have to fight to receive proper medical care. The last PCP I had dropped me because I demanded to be tested for an issue my mom had. I have the same symptoms & I'm around the same age that my mom was diagnosed. That's insane & the bottomline is it's racism

  • @georgfriedrichhandel4390
    @georgfriedrichhandel4390 3 роки тому

    The one thing not mentioned in this video which I believe is a contributing factor to this phenomenon is that one of the main reasons why Black-Americans don't have access to quality health care is because they can't afford it. Since they are have on average a lower income than Whites and Asians, Blacks most likely can't afford health insurance. This of course is not a problem limited to Blacks; according to a Harvard Medical School study done a few years ago, every year in America 45,000 people die of treatable illnesses because they are not insured (and this was after the Affordable Care Act became law). According to this study, that number affects Blacks more than it does any other racial group in America.

    • @hebrews11vs5

      It's not quite so simple, because the guy before him was killed by the cops, so now he is raised in a culture of anti cop or anti white cop, and so the chain continues, now the blacks in that area are anti cop because the innocent black man was killed. The anti cop is a culture and it just leads to more running and more getting killed. I realize it's your responsibility to submit to the cops but if you are raised in the context of cops bad, you won't comply so easily. You'd think in time these cycles will break. Perhaps if they make more video games where killing cops is cool, that it will make people respect the cops more🤔 or maybe more grand theft auto would help? And these days, if you do well in school as a black person, are you ridiculed for acting 'white', not sure. But if so, that needs to be fixed. Black people would have to change the ' grades are bad' mentality, if that's a thing, like candace Owen's says it is. Some change is just going to need to happen from within.

    • @catherinedeason8800
      @catherinedeason8800 3 роки тому +1

      @@hebrews11vs5 the fact you take advice from candace owens and stick your narrative which is just stupid is very telling. cops have always been used to target black people and it happens time and time again. look at a 60 minutes piece by mike wallace in 1968 that was about cops. I urge you to watch the 13th on netflix. the whole anti white cop sentiment is just stupid. first, who actually likes cops? they are literally there to take away your rights (that’s literally their job). Second, cops have targeted low income and minority communities and time after time get away. They constantly act as if they are above the law. this goes entirely against their whole purpose which is to serve and protect. Again confirming why in no way should anyone like cops. i agree that there is a need for them but the current system that has been in place is entirely flawed. Thirdly, compliance is often not enough if you are black. About a week ago a twenty year old was shot because of a air freshener. Breonna taylor was shot in her home. these are not cherry picked incidents but occurrences that happen everyday. The actual prosecution rate of cops is 3% and the conviction rate is 1%. Derek chavin just got convicted today but the last time a cop has been convicted was in 2005. Over 16,000 police shootings with deadly force on unarmed victims has happened since 2005. (Mostly black and other minorities) for you to sit here and justify being murdered because they are stereotyped as “anti cop” is just stupid. please inform yourself.

      It isn't ignorance, it's psychological abuse from bullies - utterly pitiful, extremely insecure and jealous individuals who are in a lot of pain...severe self-inflicted mental anguish. No decent, mentally and emotionally intelligent human could watch the video (or visit America) and deny the racism towards and oppression of Black Americans.
      Sadly, the First Nation Australians receive the same vitriol, too.
      And I agree...the behavior of the hate-filled bullies is quite disgusting. It would be great if they could simply allow themselves to heal and evolve...on the hurry up.

      White people use reason, logic and science. This 60 minute episode contained none of that. Blaming racism is all non-whites can do to not take responsibility for their actions and lifestyle choices. White people don't blame others when we fail. We just do better next time. I know you won't listen, but you really need to learn from whites instead of blaming them for everything.
