Her sword has no hand guard. It’s a ceremonial type of katana called shirasaya not usually used in combat. Either she was that confident in her swordplay or she used it solely for beheading insolent bosses

That's why O'Ren makes a big deal out of Beatrix claim of wielding one and the shock of seeing his emblem on her sword , why Ellie went out of her way out to kill Budd and retrieve Beatrix's Hanzo sword .

I love O'ren Ishii in this particular scene, elegant but brutal.. Tarantino knows how to pick the right actor/actress in all his movies 🎬

I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of O-Ren Ishii swiftly moving across the table in a kimono being delicate and unthreatening in approach right up until she decapitates Boss Tanaka by simply unsheathing her katana.

I remember many years ago watching the MTV awards and Lucy Liu won Best Villain for this performance and I was not so sure that she deserved it. But when I finally watched this movie and saw this scene my mind completely changed.

This is a great scene. She reacts without hesitation or reserve, but not by losing her shit. Quick, calm and lethal, nothing wasted. But her speech after works in many ways. One point she is making by defending her heritage, making it a topic forbidden for discussion, is that 'I don't give a damn where you came from or what is in your past. Any member of this organization, who serves this council first and foremost, is welcome and valued.' Eliminate the troublemakers, and that sort of attitude could earn a GREAT deal of loyalty.
I mean... yeah, actually, this is how some of the more successful mafias, yakuzas, and cartels ran.

The absolute most unbelievable part of these movies for me is not Pei Mei standing on a sword tip like he weighs nothing, or the amount of blood spewed from bodies when dismembered, or the heart burst technique, or anything like that. No, the most unbelievable thing for me is that Beatrix casually had her sword NEXT TO HER. ON A PLANE. I CAN'T EVEN HAVE A METAL FORK ON ME DURING A FLIGHT AND SHE CASUALLY SAT DOWN WITH A TOP-GRADE NINJA BLENDER AS HER CARRY-ON.

it is an action - fantasy movie...nothing is impossible. it is not based on true to life events that it has to be 100% accurate like in real life situations. so yes in this movie, you can bring along your hattori hanza - made katana anywhere, anytime.

It’s really hard to hate O-Ren , she was a very cool and sympathetic villain.
It was really nice of O-Ren to let the other board members know the rules before they get beheaded. Well, except for Tanaka ofcourse.
And her policy on the whole is pretty even-tempered. They can doubt and question her on just about everything minus one half of one topic, two if you count the heritages as separate. Most bosses aren't that open about policies or that open about being questioned and doubted.
