  • The two saddled cory catfish was once so rare, that no one had seen it alive. Today, you can find this "Holy Grail" of cory cats (corydoras weitzmani) if you search around a bit.
In this video Fincasters interviews Don Kinyon, who collected two saddled cory catfish in the wild and then bred them in the home aquarium. Learn how they find and capture these fish and hear how difficult it can be!
I bought a group from him at the Potomac Valley Aquarium Society All-Aquarium Catfish Convention and put them in the tannin tank, which as been featured on Fincasters many times now. The fish loved it!
    Don writes articles for CorydorasWorld.com.

    Hi John,
it might be useful to use acidic peat to decrease the pH of your tank water. At least this is how I do it. You can add it to your filter or when doing water changes let the tab water flow through a pipe filled with peat before adding it to your tank. I use peat from garden centers, it is way cheaper than in pet stores. Make sure that the peat is really acidic and without nitrate and phosphate additives. Peat decreases the alkalinity and adds acids, so it works from both relevant sides.
    Cheers from Germany,
    Matthias

Great fish, I do want to get some day those special corydoras from the Amazon area, your tank looks a lot more clear now try water softener from azoo and turba that should get your pH down, finally got Altums from river atabapo because finally reached a pH between 6 to 6.5, yes it varies throughout the day and weather conditions. Love your videos.

John, i too struggled with high ph in my blackwater tetra tank. I got it down from 8.4 to 6.4 consistently using r/o water, cattapa leaves, alder cones, and sera peat running in my hob filter that i switch out every 2 months or so. Also have a bunch of Malaysian Driftwood that has helped especially with staining the water . Anyways, tank is looking great john!

The pleco you got is actually about to become a lot harder to get due law changes and you got it for a fair price.

The Gymnogeophagus will need a "cold" winter for long term health and breeding.

@@fincasters Easiest thing i was told by Felipe while in Uruguay was just to not heat their tanks if they are in a basement or room that isnt climate controlled. Just nees to get to around 60 for a month or two.
