Awesome review Guido! I missed watching your reviews! You made a lot of really great points about the Macan. I absolutely love it and it's my favorite SUV. Like you might have guessed from Beth's instagram comment, we'd love to own one of these whenever we need more room in the future. I was very impressed with even the regular Macan S when I did the ride along with a race driver this past summer. I think Porsche hit a homerun with this car and the huge sales figures definitely make sense. Looking forward to many more awesome reviews from you this year Guido! Stay warm! lol

Porsche can make any car they wish, as long as they still produce the 911 and have factory racing teams. Every car Porsche makes is extremely competitive and fun to drive anyway so it isn't that big of a deal.

Im driving a Base 991 at them moment. Now I get a lot of shit because I want to drive everywhere in it but i usually cant take everybody with me so we end up using 2 cars most of the time. What would you prefer as a real 4-5 seater alternative: The Macan Turbo or a Panamera GTS as a 911 replacement? The Cayenne is out of the question for beeing to dull.

I, like you, am not an SUV fan..in fact I've always hated them as a die hard hot hatch/sports car fan.
However, having to cover some roads every winter that flood & get muddy I felt pushed down the 4x4 route.
I was steering the wife to a Golf R...but she thought it would be too low for the flooded roads. I reluctantly took a test drive in a Macan S..Wow!..I was (and still am) shocked at how tied down but agile it felt. To cut a long wait/story short...it arrives tomorrow!
It's a real Swiss Army Knife of a car.
As someone who has driven Audi's most of his life, readers will be surprised to find my take. It is fair to say the Macan is by far the best luxury compact SUV in its segment. By comparison, the Audi Q5 3.0 (V6) offers 272 hp with an exterior and interior that dates back nearly six years (with some minor refinements). The Macan S has underneath its hood a V6 twin-turbo producing 340hp with a base price only slightly higher than the Q5 (49,900). The PDK (Porsche's double clutch transmission) is far superior to Audi's traditional 8-speed transmission. The gears transition quicker and smoother. One look at the vehicle's interior and you'll be reminded by the benchmark of sports cars (the 911). The combined effect of sport and luxury is magnificent. If you are in the market for a compact luxury SUV, the Macan is the optimal choice.The hurdle is getting one as they are (rightfully so) very difficult to come by currently at dealerships.

My comment..is why make small SUV's? SUV's are for carrying items that wouldn't fit in the trunk of a sedan. That's the point IMHO. As well as the ability to so real off roading. For that I would choose a Land Rover LR4 because of it's boxy back end. And for it's ability to go off-road if need be.
SUV's made only for road and with the slanted forward back end is pointless. IT's for people who want to say "I own a SUV...I follow trends".

Sehr Gut Review! You captured the essence of what the Macan is and its niche to appeal to non-SUV drivers like me. I have driven sportwagon Audis, BMWs etc until now-I test drove the Macan a few weeks ago here in Colorado where I live so I want the AWD bad weather capabilities with a Porsche that can take my bikes, dogs and still is a good commuter. The 911 is parked for the winter. This Macan is on order - I have to wait 4-5months for delivery, Love your reviews- I always look forward to seeing and listening to you!! Keep up the great work. Excellent review. You captured it perfectly: "The better you can drive, the better these cars become".
We went from the Audi Q5 TDI to the Macan S. The Audi did everything we needed, but it's not a driver's car. The Macan S feels entirely different, and gives you the sense that there is SO much more to get out of it. We've owned quite a few SUV's, and I don't care for the "vertical responsiveness" of them. They're like riding a horse. Not for a moment do I think SUV when in the Macan. It feels like a sports car with a better view.
We'll drive the Macan S another year and then get the Macan Turbo. It's just an amazing car to drive, and you can still carry passengers and load up with groceries. We thought seriously about a Targa--incredible car--but the Macan covers more of our needs and is still a thrill to drive. And most importantly, it feels 100% Porsche.

Your review is excellent ,I feel like we are brothers under the hood . love the way its shot ,loved your honesty about the Audi Q5 if you are going to to get the top trim level Q5 you might as well be called a Moron not to get the Mecan, When you are talking to us I feel like you are my best buddy telling me about your new car its great,You have a no B.S. style this car is a real winner. I just bought a 2014 VW Touareg TDI in Aug. I just have one regret not doing my homework on this little baby other wise very happy with the TDI . got a great deal on it. but now I am dying to test drive this baby.

If you must haul rugrats and have that type of burdened life where you can't enjoy life, this is a good option.

Your review of the Macan really hits the nail on the head! Absolutely correct when you said this car is for those who want to drive a Porsche as a daily driver during the week while leaving their 911 as a fun weekend car. I love my 911s and I would never trade it for anything else but the Macan gives me what I need during the week for a daily driver which handles rough urban roads, jaunts to the grocery store and extra cargo space my 911s was not designed for. I have the luxury of owning both cars which I highly recommend for those who would rather drive their sports car all the time but need something more practical around town that still drives like only a Porsche can.
For me, as soon as you say you're comparing it to a 911, I want to hear flat-six air cooled rawness and that V6 really sounds terrible... just sounds like everything else on the road. You close your eyes and really listen and it doesn't sound Porsche like at all. I'm sure it's absolutely awesome and wicked... but.... you haven't sold me.

I have a 991 911, & want to add a new car as a daily driver, I'm debating weather to wait for the new Cayenne deisel in 2017 or go for a Macan now. maybe a Turbo considering the price it seams great value. Have you driven the Macan diesel?
I have taken a quick look at the interior &I felt the Macan seamed a little low rent compared to the Cayenne, what did you think?

For me the Macan ticks all the right boxes, its the right Porsche for new customers. I think it will cannibalize the Cayenne a bit. The 911 is of course everybodys dream but this a much more real-world-Porsche. I even see the Diesel version driven around as company cars here in germany.

Thanks for another great review. That launch control is quite brutal for that class car, maybe porsche imago more there than for example audi SUV models. Sounds are awesome, love to have macan turbo for my dailydriver..

Great video effects. Great review. I like the look of the Macan..it looks even better in person. And I am a 911 owner ('11 c4s). I'd have one if I had room for it (already have a highlander for the family)
I love my Cayenne Turbo because of the V8 engine. The torque it delivers at low rpms is phenomenal...and the cavernous sound of the engine quite unique. But the Macan handling seems superior to the Cayenne. Does the V6 Turbo of the Macan create the same feeling as the V8?

+Lucien Fa I completely agree with TheGetawayer on the suspension. I test drove the Cayenne immediately after a Macan S (with the standard steel suspension), and the difference was incredible. The Cayenne feels like it's top heavy, while the Macan feels like a sports car. Additionally, the engine noise on either Macan is amazing. You won't miss the V8 sound at all, no matter which V6 you choose in the Macan. Like the video mentions, the engine sounds like the V6 version of the AMG V8 ( and that's true for either V6 ). The Macan engines both crackle and pop very similarly to the AMG 6.3L. It's really amazing.

Great review ! I agree that the styling is more aggressive and exciting than the Cayenne. Surprising that the Turbo model has the same fuel economy at the S version. Definitely considering it in addition to my Cayman GTS as a second vehicle.

I was left wondering the same thing after seeing the Cayenne video. Should I go for the sport seats or not. The Macan here has the 18-way adjustable sports seats, you can tell from the side to side stitching.
Great review! Video is very well done. My only feedback I got from my friends on the Macan is that the rear is too small and not so comfortable. That's one element to consider if we want to get it as a DD or family car. What do you think?

That's the launch control feature, Mark: You switch of the traction controll, put the car into Sport plus mode, hold the brake with your left food, floor the gas and the revs go up until you let of the brake and the car shots from 0-60 in 4,6 sec :)

Yep and I kept it for 150 miles then sold it for more than I bought it for. Lovely but certainly not a sports car. It defo felt like a big fat SUV
Hey Guido, do you know anything about almost all Porsche models changing over to turbo?
I heard the boxster and cayman will have a 2.0L or 2.5L turbo and the entry level Carrera will have the current Boxster 2.7 engine with a turbo.
Is there any truth to this or is it just rumors? And if it is true what do you think about Porsche moving to smaller turbo engines?
Schon eine Weile her, aber was ich mir kürzlich erst gedacht habe.. diese Fahrzeuge sind einfach viel zu breit. Ich würde den Macan sehr wohl Offroad nutzen - könnte ich aber teilweise nicht, weil gewisse Waldwege schlicht und einfach nicht breit genug sind. Auch bei meiner Garage daheim würde es knapp werden. Keine Ahnung was die sich denken, die Fahrzeuge immer und immer grösser zu bauen.
Just one point: i also testdrove the s and the turbo. I would say the turbo has a comparatively gard suspension to use as a daily car. I would rather recommend it as a fun car that can also transport more than two people. I am not sure i coild hold out the hard setting longer tham maybe two hours on the road.
The s was ok, similar to other non sportscars.

Great job Guido. I love your vids. I need a quick advice. I am ordering my new 2016 Macan Turbo and I am seriously thinking about adding the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus as an option. What's your opinion about PTV? Do you think this options is worth the expense? I am not sure if it will make a difference in the way the car handles.

MM Thanks for the kind words about the video ! Yes, PTV does improve the handling since its a torque-vectoring system. These work amazing in awd cars and do magic in SUVs trust me. If you enjoy a spirited drive from time to time, its a no-brainer for me. But even without it the Macan should still feel sportier than any compeditor. Greetings from germany, Guido

We took delivery of our Macan S last month (midnight blue) and I love the car. The only thing is that it is still fairly new and we had already a problem with the electronics of the car, which is surprising to me since I have had Porsches for the last 16 years and never had a problem with any of them. Needless to say she was pissed because the issue came up with only 40 miles on the odometer!
Last weekend we went for a trip up in Michigan (We live in Chicago about 6 hours away) where there was snow, ice and all between and the car performed flawlessly! Guido you hit it spot on the Macan behaves like a sports car and has the Porsche DNA for sure.
My wife on the other hand, although she likes Porsches, had another complain yesterday; "The car doesn't come with lighting in the vanity mirrors"?????? I explained to her that it was part of a package that we didn't choose and her response was "How come a luxury brand likePorsche doesn't have one of the-take-for-granted equipment options standard when you spend upwards 60K for "??, "I don't think I want another Porsche"! My world came down crushing!! lol
To her defense I have to say she has a point. I personally don't really care about these things little things, hence I have always liked the bare minimum on my Porsches because I care more about the driving experience and the extraction of excitement that feeds my soul when I plant my right foot to the ground, but for the target market that the Macan aims (people that want the daily driver with all the comforts and not necessarily the one that goes 0-60 in a blink of an eye), I think Porsche should have put some things into prospective simply because many of those potential customers do see the value on what they spend. Maybe I'm wrong but this is a first degree experience with Porsche and for my wife this is her first Porsche car she ever owned. Oh, I forgot to mention that her experience start on the wrong foot from the dealership that we ordered and picked up the car, horrible experience.
So, I love the car it drives and looks great but she has second thoughts about the Porsche brand in general, can you blame her for that? Great review, keep 'em coming!!

Hello, after 3 months of waiting, I picked up my Macan S on December 24, 2014. It was a great Christmas! Now 1800 miles later, I gotta say I am blown away. First let's back up a bit. Prior to ordering my Macan, I sold my 2012 Cayenne S Hybrid. I loved that car, In fact I loved all my Cayenne's. What a great car/suv. But the kids were off to college AND warranty was expiring and causing me concern. So a took a leap of faith and ordered a Macan S. Having owned a 2004, 2006 Platinum Edition and finally a 2012 Cayenne, I knew that Porsche would make another outstanding product. -Fast forward to today, all I can say is Wow. This think rocks.
In my younger days I raced SCCA Solo Autocross races to several wins and even a class championship with cars like the M3 and Nissan 300ZX. I know what a proper “sports car”. Should handle like when pushed to the limits. This Macan drives beautifully and when pushed to the limit, dances with the best of them.
I agree with Porsche, this is not an SUV -it's a Sports Car in a newly created segment.

As for the Macan...well, I'm not an SUV guy but I have to say the Macan is pretty good looking.
I enjoy looking at the Cayenne but I would never buy one, I can't say the same for the Macan. I see myself buying one if I had a weekend car, a sporty car like you said a 911 for example, a 997 preferably.
I would buy a Macan even if it was the Macan Diesel.
The sound of that V6 well...it sounds like any other V6 car and don't sound like a Porsche at all. I think if it was a turbo straight 6 you could tell that a Porsche is coming. If you close your eyes and try to guess which car is aproaching you wouldn't tell it's a Porsche, maybe your first choice would be A 45 AMG.
Did you experienced any brake fade during the test?
Oh...and that Steering wheel...my god, is that a beautiful steering or what?! I would pretend that I was driving a 918 Spyder. Haha!

Recently I have been deliberating getting a Macan S as a daily driver or a 997.2 cabriolet as a weekend car. Your video has made that decision even more difficult as I respect your opinion on all things Porsche.

Its a very nice and sporty SUV and it may extend the boundaries of what a SUV can do or what it can feel like, but it is not a sports car. The center of gravity is too high, the car weighs, too much, it is too big, etc. Appreciate the car for what it is, a very well executed sporty SUV, but no one, especially Porsche, should claim this car is a sports car.
Claude Dickson I hope the video gives you abit of a feel for what the car actually feels like. At least that's my intention. On the roads and in the bad weather where I drove the Macan Turbo, many true sportscars would've struggled to keep up with it. But the high seating postion is still the main reason for me, why it will never feel like a true sportscar...Still, I enjoyed driving it alot ! Great car, no doubt :)

I have my idea of what a new US car manufacturer would be able to make, given the new advances in battery and motor technology, but would like to hear what you a proper German guy actually say about the car as a car, not some advanced super golf kart for getting from A to B.

mybugatti100 Well, I'm a journalist and I get the cars directly from Porsche. Start your own channel, review your friends cars and work your way up. Once you have decent views and even a fanbase ( eventhough I personally would never call my viewers fans ), you might have a chance to do what I'm doing. But it takes time. I've done this since 2010 :)
Ever since the concept photos came out on the web, I was a fan. Talk about having your cake and eating it too...you get a great balance of both worlds. And with a kid on the way, man, a true family car that allows for some weekend canyon carving fun!

What do you think about Porsche Torque Vectoring for the Macan, is it a worthwhile option for everyday driving and specifically winter conditions
Calvin Chan It works really well in this bigger car, especially when you like to drive spirited. But I don't think you absolutly need it in the conditions you mentioned. It's really just for fast driving imo

Well, like I said later in the video first you get save understeer, but if you keep on pushing you will feel the back coming around slightly and that's huge fun :) I know you can actually drift the Macan, but I don't do that on public roads or show it in my videos. So yeah, no problem with understeer in the Macan. And I was in the Sport Mode most of the time :)
The styling is becoming less offensive with each years revision but the front end still looks like the caymans chubby sister
I agree and the fact that it's not as massive as the Cayenne helps too

Another excellent review but I think you could add a little info on the comms and entertainment systems etc to make it more rounded. But I always enjoy your reviews so well done and yes I would buy a Macan when I win the euro lotto.

You get the Bose stereo standard in the Macan Turbo, which I like alot, almost as much as the optional Burmester, which is very expensive though :)

Ein kleiner Fehler bei 9:18 "reducing the fuel econmy" wäre ja verbrauchserhöhend ;-)
Wäre außerdem interessant, was die Autos so konsumieren, wenn Du sie artgerecht bewegst.

Wieder tolles Review vom Macan Turbo - super gemacht. Mich fasziniert vor allem bei 0.34 wie radikal die Launch Control im Macan arbeitet, eben typisch Porsche.

HcF31 Dankeschön ! Ich spar mir diese Spielerei sonst immer, aber bei Porsche ist die Launch Control wirklich extrem robust angelegt und man muss kein allzu schlechtes Gewissen haben. Bei der Presseveranstaltung zum 991 Turbo gab es sogar eine gesonderte Fläche, wo man sie ausprobieren konnte. Hab ich mir damals für mein Video gespart, aber wenn Du mal auf UA-cam suchst findest Du viele Videos. Ich glaube sogar eins wo ein amerikanisches Magazin 50 Starts infolge gemacht hat, ohne Pause :) Grüsse

I got to "test drive" the Macan S here in Vancouver, but it wasn't much of a drive at all, as the car is very rare here and I was only allowed to drive up and down 4 blocks...
I was disappointed from the sound (did not had the $3,500 sports exhaust option) and not too impressed with the acceleration, but in all fairness, couldn't do a real try out.
I test drove before the Audi SQ5 (North America version with the V6 Kompressor) and that engine is so much fun, plus great exhaust note!!
I have a couple of questions:
Did you had a chance to testdrive the Macan S and would you say there was a big difference in acceleration/ is the difference worth to pay more money for the Turbo?
Not sure if the Turbo already comes with the sport exhaust system. Did you had the chance to hear it on the Macan S? What is your opinion?

Haven't had the chance to drive the S and my Turbo here had no sports exhaust...I heard great things about the S, eventhough I personally would either go flatout and get the Turbo, or buy the Diesel which has all the torque you need and is more economical. TheGetawayer Hi Guido, thanks for your reply. I hear you! Unfortunately the price difference here in Canada between the two base versions is $28,000 Cdn plus 12% tax :( They are not offering the diesel version for the Macan in North America :(, nor the SQ5 Diesel with 3.0L 313 PS :(
I saw some video review somewhere, where the guy tested the S and the Turbo and even thought the S did a little better :-0 which is weird, but I guess the S is lighter having 3.0 not 3.6 liter.
The SQ5 here in North America has the S4 engine in it with 3.0l 354PS, 346 torque
Macan S 3.0l 340PS, 339 torque
I love the SQ5 Kompressor engine, but the Macan updated inside and outside looks...
Hey Guido, fantastic video awareness and great car review. BUT as an SUV shouldn't you also be checking basic Macan's offroad capabilities? How do we know how it does with some mud, for example?
Emidio Copeto Gomes I know...The problem is that you can't just drive into a forrest here in germany and try it. That's illegal. Plus I'm not very experienced when it comes to driving off-road. I'd say it wasn't Porsches goal to make the best SUV when it comes to off-roading, but I have footage of the new Cayenne going off-road here on the channel, that looks very impressive :) Thanks for checking out the video ! Happy new year Guido! Good to see you finally got a Macan to test! I've been eyeing this car for awhile but can't justify the huge jump in price for the Turbo. We also have the "S" available but I'm waiting for the diesel S to compare the two before I make a decision. Just curious, but does the Turbo come with the air suspension Pasm set up as standard?

I'd rather buy a S4 avant or RS4 avant to replace my aging 3.2L Audi avant, which has a manual transmission but our American neighbours hate wagons and manual transmissions. Canada just follows. Another vehicle you should keep on your radar is the new Golf R wagon.
