A couple of things here: 1) Although yes the Ocarina of Winds sound is the same as SMB3 warp whistle; that's also the same tune that plays when you use the Whistle in the first LoZ game. 2) Yes, the Star Fragment treasures resemble the Star Bits from SMG 1 & SMG 2; however in both instances the developers have stated they based the design on a popular Japanese candy Konpeitō; so that's like saying one American game is referencing another American game when both publishers based their item in question off the Skittles brand.

Zelda ALttP: The Turtle Rock dungeon even has Pokeys, (i believe even Spineys but i am not that sure of it), spinning Fire Bars and moving platforms you create and warp pipes. This dungeon is actually my favourit one because it's Super Mario themed.

11:13 - Actually, the "Warp Whistle Tune" in Super Mario 3 was a reference to the first Legend of Zelda game, as Legend of Zelda predates Super Mario 3. In Legend of Zelda, the "Recorder" item played that tune and summoned a tornado to take Link to previously cleared Labyrinth levels. Of course it also had other uses like draining certain lakes and making the Digdogger boss vulnerable to attack. Super Mario 3 used the "Warp Whistles" to summon a tornado to take Mario or Luigi to the Warp Zone. So, actually, this Minish Cap reference is actually referencing the original Legend of Zelda.

I played Spirit Tracks and while I'll say it was a good sequel to Phantom Hourglass, the Spirit Flute mechanic was...odd. I never completed my playthrough because the second to last time you need to play the Flute to open the Spirit Tracks, the pattern required you to slide from one note on the far right to the left and the game can't "register" a note in between the two or you would fail. The other reason for failing was to not play on tempo. Playing too fast or to slow would cause a fail. I gave up after spending several days trying to play it right...I don't think I could play it correctly even now

I feel like The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past has an overall more expanded Mario series reference in Turtle Rock and it's not just the Chain Chomps. For one, you rescue Princess Zelda from a place called Turtle Rock which Bowser and the Koopas are highly inspired by turtles in terms of animal species and that could be a tie to Peach being rescued by Bowser at the end of Super Mario Bros with Turtle Rock being one of the last main dungeons in the game. There's also other subtle references to Mario in this dungeon that being a room filled with lava which is a common hazard in Bowser's Castle levels. There's also rooms having things you travel through that also behave very much like pipes. Another thing to consider is an enemy named Hokkubokku that very much reminds me of the Pokeys from Super Mario World with how you defeat them having multiple segments you attack to get rid of it with the head being the most vulnerable. So yeah, Turtle Rock in itself feels like the biggest Mario reference in the whole game, not just the portraits of Mario in houses.

The whistle sound was first introduced in the original LoZ, not SMB3.

The Ocarina in Minish Cap that sound like Mario Bros. 3. Is the same sound from the first Zelda game. So technically not a Mario reference. Great video as always Copycat. See ya on the internet dude.

I enjoyed this video from beginning to end. So I noticed there was no mention of skyward sword. I don't mind I actually didn't enjoy that Zelda game, but is there no mention of it because they're just isn't a single Mario reference in that game or is it possible there is one? Also in the original Zelda I always thought that one of the shopkeepers with the mustache kind of looked like Mario but who knows Maybe he wasn't supposed to

I am surprised that you didn't bring up the brooches of Talon and Malon in Ocarina of Time.
Don't tell me that is not Bowser's Face.

The video misses a lot of references while stretching things like Zelda 2 having side scrolling exploration a Mario reference.

    Love the video!
As for spirit tracks, I’ve been playing it since I was little. It’s very easy to follow (there are a few tough parts though) and very fun! People tend to complain about the main mode of travel being on the train, and not instant, but I find a lot of charm in it. You have little things, mini games almost, while driving the train. It has great concepts and puzzles. If you decide to play, make sure your microphone works. The story is well put together. The music is beautiful for being on the ds. Honestly one of my favorite games of all time, thought to be fair, a lot of that is nostalgia. It’s a great play, I’d highly recommend playing it at least once!

Mr White is the same character model as the mayor of Sim city right? Back in the day that game had bowser appear as a random natural disaster.
