You're totally right Jaby. Actually Lokesh Kanagaraj is that kind of person who wishes to see his movies in a very very grounded and Practical way like ( fight scenes, chasing, etc ). Maybe actual Movie may differ from this trailer and we may get a very great experience on the day of releasing. And there is also a high chance for Leo to get into the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) where Kaithi and Vikram were also a part of that...🔥🔥🔥

It is highly likely that this film is in LCU (Lokesh cinematic universe) connected to Vikram and Kaithi. A part of this story might be inspired from history of violence but not a complete adaptation.

For the first time in Sri Lanka, a theatre showed a trailer just like in India... Came back from it. The hype is unreal... Wish Loki said if it's LCU or not - the suspense is killing us.
Lokesh Kanagaraj's 1st movie took the grounded approach you guys want. It's called Maanagaram & it's his best film to date imho, extremely gripping but realistic narrative & a perfect cast. Kinda sad that he isn't trying to do a couple of more films in that approach but it is what it is & this movie still looks cool.
meaby he is doing what he likes the most, at this point this is more like his style. I like more "realistic" movies but I understand that this is a action comercial movie and not a drama. For him I starting loving comercial movies, I love Kaithi na dVikram, I think he is great doing this kind of mix of comercial action cinema but with hard violence and more "raw" charcaters, compared to typical Indian commercial action films.
On re-watch managaram definitely has some pacing issues but nevertheless a good movie (imo kaithi is still his best work)
This film is though and through a remake History of Violence as it appears in the trailer, the opening monologue is an introduction in the comics. I mean you can witness the linguistic barriers these people experience where they can't understand or grasp what's going. Just sit there and spout bile for views. Nothing has changed in this channel I'm watching their "takes" after 3-4 years and nothing has improved, There are audiences for grounded films but it's the wider market which matters for most directors. It's actually surprising how for years they've still made no grounds in understanding the film culture and preference of masses in India and the challenges of being a director and writer to cater to the audiences.
From the western perspective its easy to appreciate a Anurag Kashyap or Vishal Baradwaj film filled with noir but not Bala or Vetrimaran films whose films are more ethnic, grounded and realistic.

So u cant entirely blame them for half assing it and as u've mentioned the lang barrier is indeed a factor in these reactions. Jaby wanted a remake of nobody and to be frank i do think it could work if done right even in a grounded setting .

about jaby’s point about filmakers being boxed into making commercial films with big stars, that’s been the main issue that we have had in commercial tamil cinema for so long now. lokesh is one of the young directors who is trying to break through that and present these stars in new forms and hopefully other directors follow suit. Especially because Vijay seems open to collaborating with new fresh directors with new ideas and not always stuck to a certain star image. Audiences being open to seeing new shades of our stars is key and i believe that the audience is ready to accept it
Lokesh admitted that Master was 50% his film and 50% Vijays. Here he had enough time to make this 100% his film since he gained a certain image and reputation after Vikram.
It is good that Vijay is encouraging many new directors, but I always think he has some influence on the story and screenplay, which also affect the film's quality. His choice of directors is excellent, but he should give full freedom for the directors to execute their plan instead of adding some political dialogues and scenes unwantedly for his own good. At least after the success of Leo, Vijay would do this.

As with SRK, but the directors are afraid of disappointing their fans (both are the Indian actors with the most fans worldwide), that fear leads them to limit themselves.

Its similarity to 'A History of Violence' is the basic plot. A regular person (Vijay) with a family living a regular life is suddenly accused of being a criminal in the past by a mafia gang (Dutt). And they hound his family wanting him to confess/return. I'm guessing Lokesh Kanagaraj has added a lot more of his own content & style on top of this basic plot. Probably his own twists to the plot as well.
History of Violence is only motif for the story..more Surprising elements are in the movie...Please watch it on theaters on Oct-19...🎉🎉❤❤
It pretty much looks similar in terms of characters. The two serial killers at the beginning of HoViolence are Sandy n Myskkin, Vijay's son is probably bullied at boarding school and they are chasing him or the hyena is chasing him and thats why he has a spear. GVM plays the role of that family friend cop in HoV. But yeah Hov is a 90min film while Leo isnt, so there's wayy more stuff to be seen. The hyena could just be some sort of dream/ symbolism for the danger that is to come. I've become a film fan now after moving away from being a crazy vijay fan who would even call Sura a hit. @@ramrajlg I mentioned the same in another channel. Where the writers Rathnakumar and another guy said that "picture yourself" part was their idea which they had for kaithi n stuff. It was directly ripped off from the novel, that too the first freaking page. Not to bash these guys but they are total rip offs.
Diff between Beast and Leo is tat in beast no 1 can touch veeraraghavan but Thalapathy is more vulnerable in Leo to protect his family and tats very interesting to watch

Actually Jaby, Lokesh is the film maker in Kollywood who changed the perspective of action films. While you think that this could have been more grounded, most people here feels that his movies are much much much more grounded than other masala action films from the past. The transition is happening via Lokesh. Although ideally we all want action scenes as closer to reality as possible, I don't think we'll get it from Lokesh but I can say for sure that when that happens in Kollywood, Lokesh will definitely be seen as the pioneer whose intentions shifted the direction of film makers towards realistic action movies

I just watched the History of Violence movie before this trailer came out. The plot looks exactly the same but some people have said that this might be another partial adaptation of the novel and not the Hollywood movie's remake. Could be from Lokesh's perspective linking it to the LCU as well but not yet confirmed. The tone looks similar to Kaithi and Vikram though. Will have to wait and see on Oct 18 night if Lokesh tells all of us to rewatch Kaithi & Vikram lol

The townspeople will recognize Parthi as a hero for stopping the serial killers. This is the only part I feel is from History of Violence. The rest will be Lokesh’s film
