It seems in the time since filming this video, this brewer has managed to creep up another .1 starts… but what do you think?
The brewer (this link is not affiliate): a.co/d/fuPJSZI
I'm pretty sure the reason some people are complaining about the temperature is just that they're putting in cold water and expecting the machine to heat it for them (like the drip machines they're probably used to).
Those "six random character" companies are throwaways. Amazon requires a US legal company name, so these companies will bulk register a bunch of names so that once the review of their scam products catch up with them, they just ditch the company name, throw a new stencil on the box, and then resell the same garbage under a new name.
yep. i try to make sure to only buy from actual companies (with actual names), but sometimes they get a little more creative than gibberish and can sound pretty legit!
If you can't find the brand outside of Amazon, it's either a shit product or at best an aliexpress forwarder/dropshipper, which you can just get from the source for a fraction of the price yourself. Either way you shouldn't be buying that from amazon
James Hoffman finding a coffee scoop: "My old nemesis"
Morgan finding a coffee scoop: "Delightfully amusing"
When you first showed it I thought it was going to be a portable regular pod brewer to brew your K cups. I think that would be easier to accomplish than making fake espresso.
This device is a prime example of "why not just buy an aeropress"
A good alternative title, honestly
haha had the exact same thought
oooh, i just ordered their newly released larger version of it.. do i want to make a bigger cup of coffee via aeropress? yes i do!
Amazon reviews are always so fun I love stumbling on the really psychotic ones
I’ve certainly seen my fair share of questionable ones
I really love it when the thing I'm buying has one star reviews by people that clearly didn't understand what they were buying: 'why doesn't this tablet have colour' on a review for an e-reader will always make me laugh.
@@TheSylda to their defense.. some higher tiered e-readers do have color.. xD
@@CodeDonut the e-reader I was looking at was in the below 150 dollar range, colour e-ink screen are more expensive than that.
@@TheSylda that is why i said higher tiered..
Looking at those reviews on Amazon, it seems the main reason people thought the coffee was too cold was because they didn’t realise this doesn’t have a boiler in it. They put cold water in and got cold coffee out. Seems most people don’t mind the terrible underextracted element of the coffee produced.
I found you through your silent shorts, and this is the first longform video i've seen. I love it just as much!! Theres something so wholesome about your vibe, it really creates a nice little safe space on the internet. Thanks for bringing comfort to not only me, but many others ❤
I am just fascinated by the clock in the back changing time.
I am always mesmerized with the clock too. Love it
It's a bit distracting to me. I just stare at it to see if there are any long cuts.
Yes. I was mesmerized by the time display and animation of each digit. Anyone know where to get that clock? I think I need one.
EDIT: There is another comment below where Morgan says that it is one of the clock displays on a Google Nest Hub.
Morgan found more nice things to say about the MRE coffee than this. That's some impressive badness!
I really appreciate you saying you washed the machine this time! I'm sorry if I made you uncomfy or self conscious with my last comment. I over worry that people don't know that they should wash things before using/wearing them, and I was worried you might be one of those people. I mean my wife didn't know she should wash clothes from department stores or even Goodwill before wearing them. Suffice it to say, you're an internet person whose content I enjoy very much and I was worried for your safety, but I apologize if I overstepped in my last comment.
You’re all good! I rarely wash equipment on camera, even with unboxings, but it’s always done. I’ll try my best to mention it in future videos!
I think I only know one person that I’ve ever met who washes their clothes before they wear them 🫤
Please, I absolutely need to know - what is this clock called and where to get one? I love it!
It’s a clock face on a Google Nest Hub unfortunately, not a true clock
@@morgandrinkscoffee Oh, gotchya. Thanks for the reply and for making wonderful content in general!
@@morgandrinkscoffee So, you are telling me that I finally need to break down and get myself a nest hub (to go with all the other google pieces in my house) just so I can use that clock display. Noted. ;-)
Great video. It seems like it’s really designed for pods - that brew basket looks like an off-the-shelf reusable k-cup. Why anyone would want a device centered around pods that does none of the few things a pod machine actually does sort of right (keeping dose, water volume, and water temperature consistent) is beyond me though. It’s fast, I guess?
"I don't know why I keep sipping as if something will change." How very James Hoffman of you. LOL
Just letting you know how much i love abd appreciate your content, thank you Morgan!
Appreciate you being here!
I keep being tempted to add more and more affordable coffee brewers to make up for not having an espresso machine but I just dont use anything other than my aeropress or my moka pot.
I do enjoy watching these sorts of reviews when i get the urge to get another toy though. Recently splurged on a Timemore C3 to replace the £5 Aldi hand grinder i was using before.
I have a baratza encore grinder and an aeropress. This setup gives me very satisfactory results for my daily brews, given that my palette is hardly so refined as to need much more from my coffee. And I don't have the money to afford talented taste receptors at this point in my life, lol. I do want to get a moka pot and maybe splurge on a nanofoamer
honestly a moka pot was the best replacement for an espresso machine I ever used. its very compact I carry it with me to travels where I know there would be a stove. also its easier to acquire than an aeropress for where I live.
I can't imagine why anyone would buy these goofy contraptions instead 😄
@lrizzard I recently went on a 45-mile bike ride along the river. The plan was to stop halfway, make a coffee, and do some watercolour painting, I forgot my paints, but had a delicious coffee anyway.
Moka pot for outdoors, aeropress for hotel stays. I just want the counter space do I can have a proper espresso machine with steam wand, then I swear I'll buy nothing but beans haha
"I am tickled by it's size" story of my life
Having to source the coffee of course but also hot water, I’m struggling to see what the use case is supposed to be for this brewer.
Airbnb.
@@somefreshbread True, that would fit, but even then I'd expect something at least a bit better than a semi-portable machine like this.
This is my first time watching their larger videos. I’ve always seen the shorts. They sound exactly how I expected and I love them 😭😭
Morgan: I apologize for the sound of the train...
Me: _... What train? All I hear is jazz._
Most excellent. I’m always worried the rumbling is going to reach my mic.
@@morgandrinkscoffee Well, the train couldn't out-play the bass, that's for certain.
Morgan and others make this Coffee journey a very Fun journey Thank You
I tried listening as best as I could but oh my gosh your clock is so cool that it distracted me a lot xD
Whenever the time would change I would get a shot of dopamine and I would smile so much haha
Really interested to see what your thoughts on the Flair NEO Espresso Maker!
I love your video and love that you don’t have a ton of cuts in your speaking like others do
I like to preheat my cups and brewing receptecal especially in winter with steam. Just let the boiling tea kettle steam in the upside down cup etc.
Would it be safe to say the chemical bitterness is from the center of the puck being overextracted and the sourness is from the outside being underextracted? Sounds like my espressos when I had a bad grinder... Tasted like pillwater and vinegar.
one interesting machine for espresso you can get is the DeLonghi Caffe Pronto (yes, that is the way that cafe is spelled on this machine), trying to find a date on it is hard and I have been unsuccessful in finding out when it was released, but some interesting attributes are that this espresso maker does not and cannot be tamped, because it has internal ridges on the chamber in which the coffee is held, and it somehow operates on only 2 bars of pressure.
Looks to me like this coffee maker is trying to be a Keurig and an Aeropress at the same time and fails miserably at being either one.
On a much larger scale, using a tiny scoop to press down a large round of coffee is what my dad did when he would brew his... 40 cup pot of coffee.
Looks like something you would add to a keurig machine.
Just put a pod in it! That will probably work much better with this short time of brewing. Kind of only diluting.
Looking forward to this!
My tip for everyone: I got an aeropress for makeshift espresso so I can make Starbucks drinks at home, and I am SATISFIED. It tastes like fine coffee to me. I did a bunch of research on espresso at home before I got it so I figured I’d share with everyone here
My tip: For filter get the Aeropress, for espresso get the EspressoGC, Picopresso or Neo FLEX.
All of these will get you better results than Starbucks (overpriced and below mediocre taste), which is why most of us brew at home in the first place.
The Aeropress will never achieve espresso - you can't achieve 9 bars of pressure so crema will be non-existant, for drinks like a cappucino the espresso won't combine the way it should with milk. Pushing on the press's piston hard to "mimic" pressure will also negatively affect taste, aside from being physically not able to even reach 3 bars. See James Hoffmann's videos for the Aeropress.
Espresso grinds will also clog up the paper so pushing the piston will end up in the fines pushing back at you and create channeling. Higher pressure and channeling will end up in bitter coffee with bad extraction.
TL;DR: The aeropress is amazing for filter. Espresso is by definition physically impossible to achieve with it and trying to do so will most likely end up in wasted beans.
What most people do when they say they make espresso with the aeropress is actually just a concentrated filter coffee.
@@eSheeep yes for me the aeropress has been great to brew really strong, small volumes of coffee that mimic an espresso. But it’s not really one, espresso is about the pressure
Love the mini scoop 😂
Im kinda curious what would happen if you could 1) find something to tamp with that fit the basket and 2) went with an even finer grind like Turkish coffee
But also I wouldn't be surprised if the brewer isn't made to handle actually generating pressure and I don't want to explode on someone
yeah I thought it was weird that she said the draw down was too fast but then proceeded to grind coarser for her next brew...
Since it’s just a metal mesh filter, you probably can’t go any finer without ALL the grounds ending up in the cup.
making it finer would probably make the channeling worse. Though i was wondering if the design intended for packing a very fine coffee very tightly, based on those water levels.
@@J_Peace it is probably to prevent the heavy channelling she mentioned, as that would cause the too fast extraction. Making it coarser will prevent heavy channels forming
I was concerned about how fast that coffee filled the cup 🤣
Hi Morgan, what is your favorite coffee? ❤
What do you do with the brewers that you don't keep or like? I've always wondered this.
Almost all of my brewers get donated or go to acquaintances who would get use out of them, I do my best to find uses for everything, even ones I don’t like
Oh God, I can't stop laughing. I swear I can't breath. Getting a bit dizzy here.🤣
this is off-topic but where did you get the neat-looking clock behind you?
Am I the only one who was more focused on the amazing clock in the background? 🤣
Do you think if you place a smaller amount of coffee and added a small round paper filter in the brew basket might help with the extraction?
Unfortunately it would be incredibly difficult to custom cut out any sort of paper filter to fit the pod
House plants always enjoy coffee regardless how bad it is
Hey i bet that scoop has a really good personality. It looks average to me
I was scared for your health when you drank the second cup😅😂
That's another fine mesh you've gotten us into, Morgan. 😂
"Regardless it does exist" high praise
Can we talk about that clock on your counter though
It does seem more like it’s meant for a kcup with the needle at the top of it. Interesting
I wanna know where you got your clock 😀
If the name is something incoherent like that, chances are it's been bought wholesale from Alibaba and the trademark was basically forged lol
Such a tiny little basket could be said to be… tamper resistant? Eh? Eh?
Hi Morgan
First of all, thank you for all the great UA-cam videos!
I have a request and hope you will take it. It's like this... I have just started my Espresso journey, but are lost. I had a small budget so I went out on the used market. Because I'm a noob I bought a De'Longhi Dedica EC 685 and for grinder I bought a KitchenAid Artisan 5KCG100 and a bottomless pf. Sometimes I think I have pulled a perfect shoot, because the dripping becomes as one in the center in the basket and its consistent, but also the Dedica makes less noise. But the taste of the espresso is really rough in my world, it's strong and bitter. Anyway I have stumbled on something that might be the flaw in this setup and it's the grinder. Some say in reviews that this grinder can't grind for unpressurized baskets. But when I read in the manual it tells me that it can grind as fine as 250 microns and on charts that I have looked at 250 microns is what a fine espresso grind should be. So I'm a bit lost here, so I wonder if you would review a similar KitchenAid Grinder?
Because I saw your project you did with the old kitchenAid Dual boiler espressomaschine. I believe also that KitchenAid produced this grinder for that Espresso machine.
Please help, I'm lost!
Would had been great to taste the coffee from this machine next to let’s say aeropress. Who knows is the “chemical” “artificial”like notes are from the coffee itself (some producers are doing questionable processes lately too). Cheers 🥃
Ultimately that spike that creates a mega channel is what does this in
SO many creators with their own coffees. Can we get a roundup/blind taste test?
Beautiful slide 9.5/10
I wonder if the spike is there to puncture the lid of a K cup pod
beautiful
grind your own coffee, heat your own water… so it’s a pour-over with added electric lights? 😂
I'm sorry but I was distracted by your clock in the background this whole video. Where did you get it?!
Lol don’t drink chemically coffee just to not waste it. Bless it! I wonder if you are suppose to run water through it a few times before actually using coffee. It is really sad when something doesn’t work out when you can tell they tried to design it well. (Is that sentence weird?!?! Lol ) thank you for being the guinea pig. I live all your videos. When you were watching it brew I had flashbacks to your shorts when you play the part of a kid. ❤️❤️❤️Too cute! Have a great day!
Youre so inspiring i love you videos morgan
I wonder if the commenters who thought the coffee wasn’t hot enough added room temp water in like a Keurig…
I appreicate your sacrifice.
I know why these things are always marketed as simulating espresso for cheap, but like... if they marketed and engineered around filter I wonder if they'd do better
"There goes my tongue."
What is the clock called??? I NEED IT
She answered in another comment saying its a Google nest hub clock face, not an actual clock
아삿추, newer drink combo I’m seeing in Korea. Iced tea with a shot of espresso
What exactly is the electronic part of this brewer supposed to be doing? I assumed it was to build pressure but that's clearly not the case because it can't make espresso.
At the very least it’s pulling the water down through the bed of coffee
YAYAYAYAYA NEW VIDEO^^
Will you be putting this up on your local buy nothing Facebook page? 😂
The clock originated in the office of Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly Walks.
Might be a Roman V which is also a U? So Frossut?
This is a potential
@@morgandrinkscoffee Probably not. There's a whole thing where making non-sense names for companies gets them reviewed quicker since there's no chance they are already claimed, hence the large number of weirdly named "brands" on Amazon.
I'm not even sure they're using a food safe plastic. I do wonder if the addition of a puck screen on top might help with extraction, if you could find something that would fit. I doubt this particular machine is worth the effort though.
Side note: Morgan “accidentally” spilt the coffee on the way to the office. 😅
The background music sounds similar to what unemployedwineguy uses when he tries to make cocktails with Malort, which is fitting given how bad the coffee turned out lol
Be interested what you think of the Outin brewer?
Hello there❤
The Dan Howell of beans ?
Wait, it brewed too quickly and was under-extracted so you ground the coffee more coarsely? I'm very confused.
Two different types of coffee were tried in this video. One that’s more espresso-like, fine grind and tight water:coffee ratio and one that’s more like a filter coffee, medium grind and larger water:coffee ratio. Unfortunately neither yielded anything drinkable
@@morgandrinkscoffee I totally missed that it was a different bean!!!
2:10 come on man, that's an average size!
you can freeze your boiling water. if you want boil water on the go.
I'm here just to hear you say that name haha
Listen, this is 5 stars for me.
Coffee👍
👍👍
Also sonepeople want lava, so i got to believe some people say cold when they mean not burning hot, which fair but a bit confusing for me since not what i call cold
Lungo🎉
Honestly, if it's a grab and go brewer that doesn't heat the water, that's a pass. I'm not going to want to find a source of nearly boiling water on the go. At that point, a pour over device would be just as easy.
Wow
im almost positive people left it to "brew" too long then came back and the coffee was cold bc there is no warmer.
Maybe it'd be better at some types of tea?
It's good at making: Brown.
SANTOOOOOOOOSSS GALOOOOOOOOOOOO
i would give it a solid 1 star just for the fact that it doesn't boil the water
I like you🥰..from Philippines
Looks like the [randomly generated sequence of letters] brand forgot to buy raving reviews.
At 40yo and after 25ish years of being a coffee drinker I'd rather straight up just not drink coffee than be given coffee that bad....(it literally looked like dirt water)...
Yeah but what's that clock in the background. A man needs a link.
Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike coffee- coffee maker.
