Can I just say that I wish EVERY dealership treated their customers and prospective customers this well. When we eventually buy a new RV, we are coming to Michigan from Utah!
This is the best UA-cam channel I’ve seen for getting and education on rv’s; options, what to look for, operations, things to avoid, etc. When I do finally purchase a rv, it will be because of these videos and what I learned from them. Also, Josh is a fantastic host with the knowledge I trust.
There are dealers with salespeople; and then there's Haylett RV, where you'll find someone like Josh. The difference? A dealer with salespeople will sell you an RV, while Haylett RV knows that customer satisfaction isn't just a good price on an RV sale. That's an excellent character trait; and it's rare to find in most salespeople.

Best alliteration ever.... "cold climate camping capabilities". Well played, sir!!! Always love your videos, humor, and presentation of the information!!!
Haylett is still the best sales experience I’ve ever had, period. Jesse spent hours with us and helped us fine tune the decision. We weren’t even planning to buy when we went in but the experience was incredible and we were sold that day. Thank you! You’ve created some amazing experiences for our family. They wouldn’t have been so memorable without the RV you sold us on.
Hi great video again . Been watching your channel. Another thing to consider is access to the refrigerator when slides are in . Also when you have slides outs on a travel trailer or a 5 th wheel they need to be maintained just in case something malfunctions and you have to manually bring them in yourself be prepared. Rear kitchen models really beat your appliances up my rule is no than 4 foot from the axels .who likes scramble eggs before your destination. Happy camping everyone and be safe!
All good points. You may notice we actually try to show our RVs with slides closed at least briefly for this very reason! Thanks for adding to the discussion :)
Josh, your videos are THE best! As you run low on inventory, how about more “perspective” videos like this one? Or, when you can squeeze in the time, how about taking us on a factory tour of the brands with best build quality? Explain (on the factory floor) their differentiators in terms of the manufacturing process. You have more street cred than the Manufacturer blowing their own horn. Also, show us examples of low quality that you don’t like to see and recommend avoiding (like your residential fridge rant). We value YOUR experience, perspective & opinions.
I would love to kick in the door of some places and record more factory tours. It's a difficult thing for me to accomplish as even though we're local my plate is FULL daily & the time required to get there and make it all happen is demanding
I agree on the whole 4 season thing. The big mistake I see and have done myself is thinking a 15,000 BTU air conditioner in florida is going to keep any trailer over 25 feet, even without slides, is going to keep it cool. A lot of dealers in florida will tell you it's all you need. Its not until its 95 and high humidity and sunny when you discover it's not. My trailer weighs 8600lbs dry, 960 tongue weight, dealer said it was 1/2 truck towable, I laughed and said only if you change the engine, transmission, brakes, tires, and suspension. Love your channel, keep up the great information!
Next biggest misnomer in RV is “Half Ton Towable” and the truck makers don’t help. A Chevy Custom with max tow and 6.2L or an F150 with max tow and heavy load package can tow your trailer. But both have heavier axles, heavier rear suspension, LT tires and in the case of the ford, 7 bolt wheels. These are special order half tons that blur the lines with 3/4 ton trucks. I shake my head at both parties.
So glad you pointed out 5th wheel hitch weight and putting horse before the cart. I have a large 5th wheel but I also have a dodge 3500 pulling it. I went with my buddy to help him pick out a camper. He has a half ton pickup. The sales guy immediately started pushing him toward the more expensive 5th wheels. I said you saw what he is driving why would you push these. He said “it’s no big deal, just throw some air bags on it.” We left right after that and went somewhere else.
Glad you appreciate it. We don't sell near the number of fifth wheels as a bunch of places as a result, but I also know we aren't putting people in danger either. Had a client send me a screen shot of a text chat with the "Internet Sales Manager" at a facility I won't name in which he expressed concerns regarding his truck's payload of 1,800lbs vs. the hitch weight of 2,420lbs on the FW they were being advised to purchase by the sales agent. The "Internet Sales Manager" suddenly advises "1,800lbs is just the cab payload. The bed has a payload of 4,280lbs on that truck." We're still not sure where he came up with that number. It's very concerning as thankfully our client was smart enough to know the difference, but many people would not know to be concerned with that response.
Haylett RV that’s crazy, and to me it’s not even bad business. They are putting people at serious risk of getting themselves and others hurt. Glad ur one of the good guys. Great video 👍
This was a great video. I want to tell anyone who is new to RV-ing that what he said is the absolute 100% truth. Travel trailers and 5th wheels are all built the same. They’re all going to have things break--new OR used as they’re all rolling earthquakes. Only when you get to DRV’s or Luxe’s will you find differences (some in the build process but mostly in the types of wood used in the cabinetry and aesthetic things like that). Or small company RV’s like Oliver which are all fiberglass bodies. But you’ll pay MUCH more for those. Well done Josh. An honest sales person.
It's refreshing to know there is at least one dealership who cares more about the customers safety than the sales. One thing to note, not all bunk house models would be useless once the kids are gone. A midbunk can be converted to an office or workshop or just about anything, mancave, sheshed. That is my plan with the one I just got. Once the kids are done, I have a place to relax once I retire. Keep up the great videos. Does a bear s*** in the woods? No it wants to use your RV toilet! LOL
We bought a bunk house TT for the storage, place for the dogs and a spare bed for when I snore. The kids use it now but we decided on the bunkhouse before kids. If you don’t have a 5er, nothing has the storage or carrying capacity of a no slide bunk house around 27-28’. 7600 lb gross, 4800lb empty. That’s a lot of stuff and well within the tow rating of most half tons.
Josh I’ve been watching you for probably two years. Somehow I missed this video and watched it tonight. It’s easy to see why you have been so successful. I believe most people can tell when someone is being honest with them and that is the reason why. Thanks again for all the information!
If we could we would definitely buy our rv at this dealership. Maybe one day it will be possible. Great knowledge. Very entertaining and informative videos. We love, love, love watching them 👏👍. Best regards from Germany.
Just wish we weren't on the west coast. Already bought local, but I watch all of your videos. When my next purchase happens, we will be buying from you. Moving to the midwest soon. Keep up the good work Josh!
Another great video Josh. Every bullet point you hit was information I learned over the course of a year doing research into purchasing our first trailer, and you summarize it in 18 minutes. This should be a must watch for those beginning their own research. You are spot on about unscrupulous dealers. The very first one we went to claimed he could safely get 10k behind my half ton (rated at 7200). We did an immediate about face and left.
Sorry don't know what happened missing rest. So salesman just ordered what I wanted . 1 ton Ford Van custom interior of the times and special ordered rear differential and tires. I was a 25 yo female and was treated first time as if I didn't know what I was talking about . The van was wonderful what a way to travel barely knew the trailer was back there. I have retired now and will be seeing you when I sell my house. Take care and thanks again for all the videos
I absolutely agree with Edye's Kitchen. I'm in California but the warm fuzzy feeling I get from your very informative videos and your "safety first" statements along with your wealth of knowledge just gives a personal comfort which I find outstanding given the fact that I get this from a UA-cam Video. Great videos and thanks for your time.
Another great informative video. Another thing to think about is wardrobe space. I've seen many rv's that sleep several people but only have enough wardrobe space for 2.
Great points on tow vehicles. Everyone needs to learn what their payload capacity is (on a sticker on the drivers door jam usually) , the GVWR (same spot), their GCWR and max trailer. Keep them with In specs as Josh is stating. The 80% rule of thumb is pretty common.
TY. I really try to stress the idea of it being an "80% guide" as it can be scaled up/down as needed. I originally called it an "80% rule" and found a lot of folks got kind of hung up on the semantics of the word choices.
I had to chime in to this video. we've spoken before and living in California where there are a lot of hills and mountains in the west coast. Our little forest river wolf pup 16 fq is only 3200 lbs and towed by a 1/2 ton Nissan frontier rated at 6400 lbs towing. It really does struggle at times even though I'm only 50% of its rating. Not only the weight parameters are important but also the shape, aerodynamics and the gear ratio of your transmission are important. I've heard the newer 8 speed automatic transmission would have given me better performance than my current 5 speed transmission.
Great video Josh. So many great things, well explained, and helped clear some things up. I like and respect the fact that Haylett puts safety before a sale let alone all the other awesome things you all do because you truly care about the buyer and not the sale. I have been a viewer for a while now and truly appreciate the great videos you do. Great work, stay safe, and smile on Josh.
Gosh Josh! No matter how much I think I know about RVs from watching so many videos, you _always_ manage to add to the body of knowledge. Thanks so much for the excellent content as usual. You make it look easy but I know it is not easy to produce such consistently informative and engaging content!
WOW...Thank You, Thank You,.... again I learned from your video's!! Josh you and Haylett RV are the Bestest!! A true RV'ers Friend and Mentor to a Newbie 👍👏👏👏
You are very thorough. I live near Chicago, but Im seriously thinking of buying my next RV from your dealer. It is hard to find good dealers you can trust. I appreciate your hard work and dedication.
Figuring out how many beds, as I am granny now and 99.9 percent of the time its me traveling. But I know as soon as I pull up 'granny's here'! Will be the cry! Little guy max may be my answer, but still working on it. Thank you for sharing.
We found our perfect RV last year from Haylett RV, 2020 Geo Pro 19FD, (yes you did a video of our exact Geo Pro ), this thing has been awesome. I can`t believe how many less RV`s you have looking at that shot of your dealership lot compared to last year at about this time when we bought ours. Hopefully this crazy covid thing ends soon.
I've never seen our inventory like this. We are still selling dozens of RVs for every one that comes back into our inventory. By the time fall/winter roll through things will have largely equalized but man...
Thank you Josh. The RV "nerd" Thats extremely informative information you have given in this video. I must say that I wish your company was closer to the Canadian border. I live in Manitoba Canada and its not so much the long drive to Haylett Michigan that discourages my journey but more that myself and my wife have yet to get passports so crossing the border isn't an option just yet. I would so love to purchase my first travel trailer from you guys. The information and knowledge you have shows that Haylett really wants there customers business and feed back. Not to mention have as much as possible a pleasant experience buying a camper. Or learning about the different campers out there. And also to make sure the people buying them are safe while doing so along with other's out there camping. Honestly I'm not aware off hand of any RV dealer in Manitoba that has that same knowledge or commitment to there customers. Haylett Auto and RV sales, setting a standard for how customer service and support should be at all RV sales 👍.
I too have enjoyed all your videos for past 3 years. The at of camper and vehicle size ,differential etc is so important . A car salesman tried to tell me I didn't need what I wanted ,so I just got up and left and went to another dealer and that one just ordered what I wanted. I was a 25 yr old female in 1976 going to be towing my parents 1971 holiday rambler 25 foot. It pulled like a dream . I got a 1 ton Chevy decked out with fridge and chairs and back fold down sofa. What a way to travel at the time lol. Thxs so much for your informative videos. I have retired now and when the house is sold we be coming to see you.
Big big props for your advice about whether to get a bunkhouse or a couples camper. The couples campers are more comfortable and usually tend to have better windows as well. Great great video. I will be giving you guys a call from Portland Oregon.
Josh thanks for all your info it helped us to figure out our choices and how to pick up our rv we have done our first shake down trip and are getting ready to full time again thanks
Josh, I am addicted to your videos. My family camp in Pentwater every year. I will come to you for our next RV. wife and I definitely in 1st 2nd RV group
Another great feature of an outdoor kitchen is not heating up the interior or filling it with cooking smells! I have had my camper for three years and have yet to use the stove or oven inside
*WOW* !! *FAB to see such a GREAT GUIDE to buying an RV/travel trailer* !! *Thank you for your honesty* !! *Finding Haylett RV has been the ideal way for me to learn about RV's* !! #HaylettRV
Always a good thing watching your videos..I believe in a month or two I will be making the painful transition to a Rv camper..Painful only in that it;s time for the boat to find another home , and obtain a suitable camper and get on the road and see what's out there.. Thankyou for your sage advice.
I've been binge-watching your videos.... Love your down to earth way of explaining things. I wish you had a store down in Florida - I'd visit & buy from you in a hot second!
I’ve been watching you for years and have learned so much. This was the best information on how to choose an RV I’ve ever heard, makes so much sense. I always thought a rear kitchen was cool but we plan to travel a lot so may have to rethink that. Thank you Josh ❤️❤️❤️
I'd really like a Keystone 26rbpr for LTVA boondocking in AZ. It might be a bit much for my 2004 1/2 ton Suburban. It's just me, so a bunkhouse is a waste of rear space although I though removing the bunks and putting in shelves for extra storage/supplies. A big bathroom is important so the Forest River Heritage Glen Hyper-Lyte 25RBHL and Crossroads Sunset Trail seem nice. I don't wanna have to upgrade my Suburban. It's paid for and dependable. Lotsa choices! I'm a truck driver so living in tiny spaces isn't anything new, but I'm NOT living in the desert in a 14' anything. Geo-Pro's aren't gonna cut it.
Not only the time and effort to make these videos. How do you manage to read and reply to all the comments. I'm not sure dedicated really says enough. Thank you sir! I look forward to bringing my business up north. Big thanks from sunny southern Arizona!
I used to live in the USA but I came back to Peru and I am planning to buy a rv Trailer and Haylett is the option, excellent and very detailed info in each video. Best regards
This was a great information. I was always considering a bunk house because I have two teenagers of 17yrs old but didn’t think a couples trailer could be the solution. The tallest person in my family is 5’10”.
Can I just say that I wish EVERY dealership treated their customers and prospective customers this well. When we eventually buy a new RV, we are coming to Michigan from Utah!
Looking forward to meeting you!!
He's a one-of-a-kind for sure.

As always, a very informative video. Thank you for the personal touch, enthusiasm, and honesty you put into each video.
My pleasure!
You have the best information I think everyone should watch your videos before buying or to get great information on rv's. Thanks for what you do.
I appreciate that!
You are so informative. I love watching your channel. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
This video has been very helpful. Thank you for posting it.
The best video for the beginner RVer !!!!! Good job Josh!!!!
Wow, thanks!
Josh is the man.....
Thanks buddy :)
SOB with a PHD...love it!
Another great informative video in my library.
Thanks, and great job as always!
Glad you enjoyed it!! We have PLENTY more for you to review!
I love your videos. They are so informative. It has really helped me to figure out what I want and what to look for in my next camper.
We love our Haylett RV. Best experience!
Ty Martha!! If you haven’t done so, then would you mind sharing in a quick review at www.haylettautoandrv.com/review-us/
@@JoshtheRVNerd ✅ done!
TY Chris!
Josh thanks for all your info it helped us to figure out our choices and how to pick up our rv we have done our first shake down trip and are getting ready to full time again thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Josh, I am addicted to your videos. My family camp in Pentwater every year. I will come to you for our next RV. wife and I definitely in 1st 2nd RV group
The *best* kind of addiction lol
Another great feature of an outdoor kitchen is not heating up the interior or filling it with cooking smells! I have had my camper for three years and have yet to use the stove or oven inside
Great tip!
Always done so very well. We will at some point be going to Michigan from Massachusetts to buy a rv. Keep up the great work and Channel.
*WOW* !! *FAB to see such a GREAT GUIDE to buying an RV/travel trailer* !! *Thank you for your honesty* !! *Finding Haylett RV has been the ideal way for me to learn about RV's* !! #HaylettRV
Our pleasure!
You do a great job informing the consumer thank you very much
My pleasure. TY :)
Well done as always Josh! I enjoyed the Journey music at the end.
That's because you never stopped believin'
Always a good thing watching your videos..I believe in a month or two I will be making the painful transition to a Rv camper..Painful only in that it;s time for the boat to find another home , and obtain a suitable camper and get on the road and see what's out there.. Thankyou for your sage advice.
I love your videos very helpful your are great. Happy you exist, and are a kind helpful person out to really help. You have help me lots. 🎈
Great info as always. Thanks Josh.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thank you for your videos and sharing your knowledge!
Always a pleasure to educate in return for the fair opportunity to earn your business when you're ready!
Excellent. I’m sending this to my son and husband too. Thank you.
Love how informative your videos are. Keep up the awesome work!
Excellent video for those of us who are looking to "get into" camping.
TY! It was spur of the moment, so I wasn't sure how "coherent' it would be
Great job 👏 on the video Josh!!!
Always informative & appreciated by all of us!!!!
My pleasure!!
I've been binge-watching your videos.... Love your down to earth way of explaining things. I wish you had a store down in Florida - I'd visit & buy from you in a hot second!
We've considered the idea of expanding, but felt we had improvements to make running this store before branching out.
Thank you for this information there’s a few now that I will have to think about mike from Ottawa Ontario Canada
I’ve been watching you for years and have learned so much. This was the best information on how to choose an RV I’ve ever heard, makes so much sense. I always thought a rear kitchen was cool but we plan to travel a lot so may have to rethink that. Thank you Josh ❤️❤️❤️
If you do travel with an RK, then DO NOT get a residential fridge. It simply won't hold up well back there long term.
Thanks!
Something like these perhaps? www.haylettautoandrv.com/inventory/?keyword=25rb
@@JoshtheRVNerd Love it! I wasn't even considering Jayco. Thx so much for the recommendation!
Not only the time and effort to make these videos. How do you manage to read and reply to all the comments. I'm not sure dedicated really says enough. Thank you sir! I look forward to bringing my business up north. Big thanks from sunny southern Arizona!
TY for recognizing. It's an every day under taking. Just when you think you're "caught up" something else requires attention!
Thank you. Lots of good information.
Who knows when we're ready to buy again we may just make the trip!
We would love to meet you!!
I used to live in the USA but I came back to Peru and I am planning to buy a rv Trailer and Haylett is the option, excellent and very detailed info in each video. Best regards
TY!
We will be coming up to So. Michigan from So. Indiana when this Pandemic eases up. Hope to see you sooner than later.
I love your videos. I wish you were In my area
Wish you were in our area too!
Buying an RV is like having kids..
"I am never doing that again!" A few years later.... "Honey, what do you think about another one?"
We're on our 4th RV now. Every one of them costed us a pile of money, and yet, we just bought another one...
You are an excellent presenter in addition to being informative Class C and B are now popular I hope you can add them to your educational program.
These info are great questions. I never thought about these factors.
Awesome!! Thx for tuning in!
We just retired and live in Michigan.
And yes we follow the law and visit south Michigan 😆
Have a Jesus filled day
Greg in Michigan
See? I was kidding... but I *wasn't* too lol
Some great insights in this one! Thanks!
My pleasure!!
Excellent information! Very well done.
Thank you kindly!
This was a great information. I was always considering a bunk house because I have two teenagers of 17yrs old but didn’t think a couples trailer could be the solution. The tallest person in my family is 5’10”.
It all depends on your family and how you camp. What I've tried to share are ideas based upon my experiences after doing this for over a decade.
of all your videos I have watched before this one is the best. I'm shopping for a camper and this was so helpful
Always happy to educate in return for the fair opportunity to earn your business!!
Excellent education confirming what I thought! Thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Great job
Good video with relevant info.
Glad you think so!
One of your best
Glad you think so. I was interrupted constantly while filming and felt very distracted as a result. Trying some new camera work and styling.
