These were more novel when they first came out. Imo there are better options for near or even less money atm. The chromatic aberration and soft focus make these are pass for me.
That says, have you seen the new Atlas Mercury lenses? A bit more pricy, but definite mojo.

The Atlas is $2400(42%) more than the Vazen I think most people would consider that to be more than a "bit". Vazen is 1.8x and Atlas only 1.5x so less of mojo here. The vazen fits the Red image circle while the Atlas circle is larger reducing the amount of light available. Some people prefer soft focus for a more cinematic look - however if you dont this can easily be changed in Post.

Yes the Atlas is more expensive but it will retain more value if sold. And while it has less squeeze… squeeze alone is not the only characteristic of anamorphic. The Vazens exhibit pincushion distortion whereas the Mercury lenses have the more desirable barrel distortion. The Mercury lenses also have better control of chromatic aberration. Also the full frame coverage of the Mercury lenses gives the flexibility to also accommodate s35 sensors.
I think for most the Mercury lenses are an easy pick vs Vazen. That said there are also options from Great Joy and Sirui to consider; as well as Viltrox and Laowa. Having owned the Vazen 50mm full frame… which cost $8k I can share that I was left unimpressed with the QC of that lens. I have some footage on my channel from that lens, on both the Sony FX6 and the Red Komodo 6K.

What are you talking about? This lens has barrel distortion, too. You also don't pay any mind to the portability of this lens vs the Atlas Mercury. I see this lens as more appropriate for smaller budget, run-and-gun shooting, or documentary filming. The Atlas is better suited for bigger productions, cinema or commercial shoots. Also, this lens was made for MFT sensors, specifically for 4/3 open gate shooting. Using it on the Komodo is going beyond its specifications.
