    As a tech product engineer specializing in DOD contracts I'm going to officially call out Sig's engineering team on one element of this optic. Why in the _hell_ did you use a Mini USB port on this? Not only did you choose an obsolete port, you also had to design a cap, thread, seal race, and captive strap when you could have just used a USB-C port, which requires no cover at all, and is IP67-8 rated? It would have saved you a not unsubstantial amount of components and cost, and everyone would have preferred it? It makes no sense to me.

    Just skip this optic. Spend a little more and get either a Pulsar Thermion 2 or Trijicon Reap-ir. I looked through one of these at the gun store and was extremely disappointed. I thought maybe Sig had made a breakthrough in technology cost but in no way does this compare to others. No need for all the color palettes, white hot and black hot are more than enough, as well as the other features like auto on and the leveling feature. Waste of money. Good review and thanks for being honest in your review.

      They don’t specify where it’s manufactured so I would guess it’s made in China by Holosun like all of SIGs reflex sights. Holosun hasn’t released theirs yet so I would imagine this is in its early stages and that Holosun will come out with one actually worth while in the near future

      @@AiSMRStories Good thing I have plenty of room to talk then huh? I have a Reap-IR 35mm. Saying that it’s “amazing” is bullshit. Yeah, compared to not having one it’s better. If it was $500 then it would be worth it.

    I have the 1-6 and the 2-12. I absolutely love them! They're phenomenal for hog and predator hunting. I hated looking down a tube at night and these took care of that and definitely helped with situational awareness. I took my 1-6 on my 6arc out to 300 and it was perfect. I was impressed. Excited to try the 2-12 at the 300 range.

    The Sig ECHO3 is not worth $3200 or on sale for $2200. Best at least is $1200. And, the ECHO made out of polymer.
    This should be made out of Aluminum and powder coated. Sig better go back and think why would anyone wants to pay that much.

There are way better Thermal Optics for the money and they are not made of plastic. lol

    Thanks for the detailed review! -- It's wild to me that they opted to use a polymer casing and not filling the gap / mold lining. Even more frustrating is choosing to use an old USB mini B connector (USB 1.1 / 2.0 speeds) on such a futuristic device, which is extremely old and slow, but still technically a standard. Very disappointing and I love Sig products. Even with this I'd still likely try this product out before other thermals.

    I had one of these once, the earlier model before this one. The refresh rate sucked. It would freeze up every few seconds. This one appears better tho I admit. The main thing that sucked tho is how it would vampire drain the batteries even when turned off. Really fast too. Just one night and they'd be dead. It drained fast when using it too. Then the TV style screen will glow in your face at night. So you'd have to make a hood of some sort to use this with any degree of stealth. One good feature about a screen like this tho is you can poke it around a corner and shoot while stating safe while looking at the screen. For the money tho there's better options. I returned mine and bought another gun instead

    Those optic loading screens took quite some time. Does that go away after first turning it on, or how does that work? What is the run time? I can’t imagine you could have it on for 24h with no charge, so you’d probably turn it on when needed? Or does it have shake awake? That screen load time could be a real problem, losing your target by the time the system is ready. Guess I’ll have to look it up I have so many questions 😂

  • @richardclark9609
    @richardclark9609 Рік тому +1

    This is JUNK!!!! Compare it to any other Thermal Optic on the market and this is by far the worst one Iv seen. 50 to 75 yards is a joke!!! You could buy one the cheapest ones made and have an 3 times better everything. The Thor LT 3x minimum to 6x maximum thermal rifle scope is $899. Its made for 100 yards and people who have them are able to see things out to 400 yards and have animal ID at 200 yards for an animal the size of a deer, and 150 yards for an animal the size of a racoon. The Thor LT can handle the recoil of a .308 rifle. They make much better ones and have a big list of them on Amazon. My advice is for anyone looking for a thermal optic to Not impulse buy... Do some research on them. Watch Thermal Predator Hunting videos. You see exactly what they see threw the Thermal scope. You can see the distances are way more than this Sig is. For $899 you get an Aluminum Scope with the Thor LT. You save $2000. If anyone was thinking of the Sig and spending $2200 for a sale price or $3200 normal is crazy. If you are going to spend those amounts to spend, look at the Thor LT at $899 and how much you would save to have a better thermal optic. Take the money you would save and buy a much better thermal optic for your money. Also the Thor LT and some of the other Optics are a 1 shot site in. You shoot at the target center. Hit set and move the dot in thermal optic to the bullet hole in the target and hit ok. It is now sited in as the optic will adjust itself.

    1) Potting the electronics (to make a device 'impervious' to recoil) is essentially pouring Build-50 or styrofoam saturated linseed oil over the board - it only costs a buck or so; 2) a quick release mount doesn't add more than a couple bucks of cost. You definitely don't want a fragile device on a rifle, but it doesn't cost much to accomplish. Size, weight, user interface (which you didn't like much), and detection range are what matter.
