I am thankful for the 2016 Cubs team but the 2003 Cubs were my favorite too. For some reason, seeing them win in 2003 would've meant more to me then as opposed to 2016. In three decades watching Cubs baseball I have never seen another ball hit near that spot. Never.

I just want to put in to perspective how much of a damn shame Sammy isn't honored by the Cubs. Bryant's MVP season last year: .292 BA, 39 Home Runs, and 102 RBIs. Rizzo's season this year: ..273 BA, 32 Home Runs, and 109 RBIs (Writers saying Rizzo should be considered for MVP). Sammy's "down year" in 2003: .279 BA, 40 Home Runs, and 103 RBIs. Sammy's numbers in 2001: .328 BA, 64 Home Runs, and an astronomical 160 RBI. Yes, I get it, steroids and all, but many, many players were juicing back then, it was part of baseball, probably more so than we know. I could give Jason Heyward a truckload of steroids and he's still going to suck. Sammy did so much for the Cubs organization and the fans for many years.
Cardinals fan in STL here. Man, I was terrified of Sammy Sosa for about 4 or 5 years. He was one of the best hitters of the steroid era, and it really is bullshit how baseball has shunned these guys, but then let the Astros get away with legitimately cheating and ruining the integrity of competition. Steroids never told you which pitch was gonna be thrown. It might add 15-20 feet to a fly ball, but they still had to use pitch recognition. I hope someday the juicers get the respect they deserve. They made baseball in the 90’s a lot of fun.
Milo Tucker you’re 100% right. Like I said in my other comment, steroids might put a few feet on a fly ball, but they don’t work right unless you put the work in. These guys still had to train and learn how to hit off speed pitches, and learn how to use pitch recognition, learn the mechanics of the game and so on. What the Astros did is 100x worse as far as I’m concerned, but they weren’t even slightly punished.

A friend had tickets up 25 rows even with the right fielder. Sosa was unable to shift 10 15 feet for a batter. They cut a 3x3 square of new sod cause he wore out the spot. Look up him playing center when injuries took both CFs. High fly to straight center. Except it was 20 feet to left and 30 feet behind him just in front of warning track.

Now that Chicago area is so gross. They hate the American flag in that area now. I live 1 hour west of Chicago and it’s like a whole different world going that way. Cardinals fan in STL here. Man, I was terrified of Sammy Sosa for about 4 or 5 years. He was one of the best hitters of the steroid era, and it really is bullshit how baseball has shunned these guys, but then let the Astros get away with legitimately cheating and ruining the integrity of competition. Steroids never told you which pitch was gonna be thrown. It might add 15-20 feet to a fly ball, but they still had to use pitch recognition.
I hope someday the juicers get the respect they deserve. They made baseball in the 90’s a lot of fun.

Milo Tucker you’re 100% right. Like I said in my other comment, steroids might put a few feet on a fly ball, but they don’t work right unless you put the work in. These guys still had to train and learn how to hit off speed pitches, and learn how to use pitch recognition, learn the mechanics of the game and so on.
What the Astros did is 100x worse as far as I’m concerned, but they weren’t even slightly punished.

You can have an amazing meal but if the last bite tastes like absolute shit, you’re never eating that again. Sammy was such a great part of our 2003 postseason run but when he walked out on the team in 2004, that erased everything he did. The guys announcing the games used to be fans of the respective teams (or at least they pretended to be), so they'd get excited about stuff. Now they're all just network employees and announcing the game is just another gig.

Overrated. Had the talent to be a great defensive player but was as bad as Bonds was with the Homer's chase. Like Reggie Jackson just ended up being concerned about his numbers. A friend had tickets up 25 rows even with the right fielder. Sosa was unable to shift 10 15 feet for a batter. They cut a 3x3 square of new sod cause he wore out the spot. Look up him playing center when injuries took both CFs. High fly to straight center. Except it was 20 feet to left and 30 feet behind him just in front of warning track.

Tim W I blame Dusty Baker. If Alou makes that out there is less pressure on Gonzalez. Baker's problem was that he didn't go out there to settle them down after the Alou incident. The whole team was flipping out and cursing. If he goes out and stops the moment a bit things could be different. Instead he let them remain high strung. Gonzalez makes the error and the rest...is history.
Probably because it's Bartman's fault. There were like 9 bad things that happened, but NONE OF THEM HAPPENED UNTIL AFTER BARTMAN. Bartman changed the entire momentum, mood and atmosphere in the park. He changed both teams' attitudes completely with that play - energizing the Marlins, rattling the Cubs.
