You are right about that Johnny..... :-) Appreciate the nice comment. Thanks so very much for taking time to write in and to watch the video. May you have a very good day my friend.
Nothing like new equipment. Holes in the grapple and stashed in between a Moley magnet. Holy Moley! The maiden trip for it launched on uneven ballast but not off to a rocky start (sic) An expensive but worthwhile investment for both the equipment company and their customers. I can just picture the "not so great old days" of getting out the motorcar two trailers and maybe six track crew members to accomplish the same task.
Thanks for writing in Paul. Gonna have another video out this summer with us riding down track in this new truck and an interview with Lucky, so hope you will enjoy that one also. Very much appreciate your checking out the video my good man.
Great video Dave. Lucky sure knows how to use his equipment. I know from past experience how hard it is to find the right balance point on long materials. Have a great day my friend.
Thank you Bill, really glad you are enjoying them. Hope I can get to see ya! I will be working memorial day, so look for me somewhere on track. We had a horrible month in April and most of May, now they are running trains on a very regular basis and we all here hope that continues. Send me your email and I will get in touch with you if you'd like so you will know train schedule on Monday.
Great video! I’ve seen high rail vehicles before but this is the first time I’ve ever seen on actually go on the rails abs the wheels below it lower onto the track. Have a great day!!
Thank you very much Johnathan. I've had many requests over the past year to have a video of how a truck gets set on track and was glad to be able to make this one for you guys. Even more special was it was the first time, now that is a once in a lifetime opportunity to do that! So appreciate your tuning in and checking out the channel tonight my friend.
Great video and tutorial of the new Grapple Truck! That guy working on it is pretty slick and its obvious it's not his 1st rodeo lol! Always great to see a new video from you Dave to see what's new at the Cumberland Mine Railroad! Thanks again for all you do to put out great videos for us to enjoy! Another excellent video! I've seen the Hi Rail trucks mount and dismount the rail many, many times on the Elkhart camera but seeing the controls up close and personally like that is completely new to me. It's always amazing to see how smoothly someone who works with a truck like that so frequently is on the controls. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much DietSeth for you very nice comment. Good operator. I live real close to a CSX main line and see when they drop train loads of continuous rail . Then ties n plates spikes ballast . Then track crew comes through n puts it together . Cool stuff.
love your videos and the passion you have for railroading. im in my 30s and i just changed to this line of work. did 10 years in the military and had to do a change in my life hope i enjoy it just as much you seem to ! keep them video coming. have you ever thought of investing in a body mount for your camera and will be able to work with both hands
Really glad you are enjoying the videos. We do appreciate your watching and for writing in. I wish for you the best in your RR career. Take lot's of pictures! and video if you are allowed. Write everything down. I started a diary of what all I do everyday, important events and such that happen on the RR about 8 or so years ago. I kick myself now for not doing it since the very beginning. So many things happened way back that I don't have written down and now the dates are lost to my memory.

@@ccrx6700 18 years old, as one could tell it's just broke in, but at least it's not broken. Alot of the Railroads in the 70's & 80's wound up with those Grumman inspection trucks with their big box cabs. Rode hard, electrical nightmares, froze your butt off in the winter. Alot of short lines had these trucks for years as MOW Equipment well into 2000. Still to this day, you can find these old girls tucked away at a few tourist Railroad Museums. I hope you get a new one soon, but I think that the Railroad will get newer engines before your wish would be granted. Come to the show in August my friend. Brian would like to see ya and together we can build that switch. Stay safe. Have a good night 😴.

There was another railroad video I watched where the guy gave smart advice to putting these trucks on the rails. Always the back first so you still have steering putting the other end on.
Excellent Joshua, really pleased to hear your enjoyed that. I've had a lot of requests to show that in the past. Yep and back end always goes on first. Certainly do appreciate your writing in with the nice comment and for taking in the show today my friend.

Oh it sure is nice. Frontier has tons of work and this is the 3rd new grapple truck they have bought in the past year. They can't keep up with the amount of RR contracting work that is out there, and that's a good thing for them. Thanks so much for tuning in to the channel tonight and taking in the show my friend.
You said that the mine owns 150 feet either side of the track. That is plenty of space to add a second track and an access road along the tracks I know you said it would be a million dollars a mile, but I really think putting it in an connecting the track to CSX with a new yard would increase the number of trains you could pull each day. With more trains you can sell to other power plants. Having 2 sidings where you could bring 4 trains and couple them into 160 car long trains for CSX to come and pull with 5 or 6 locomotives and drop off the empties, you could constantly be bringing new loaded trains and bringing back empties 24 hours a day.
An interchange would be awesome, but then we would also fall under FRA inspections. Also what you don't know is that several years ago they spent a ton of money to build a barge unloading facility at LaBelle where they are able to load CSX trains from. So with that now in place there will be no future rail interchange here. One factor in that was the inability for certain land owners willingness to sell a right of way to the mine. Our mine wanted to belt coal over to Waynesburg at our sister mine emerald where they do have a siding off NS trackage. But several land owners would not sell so that idea fell thru also, that is why LaBelle came into existence.
Everything on the RR is high priced Tom.But Frontier has so much work it's incredible. This is the 3rd new grapple truck they have bought in the past year and they will soon pay for themselves. Do so appreciate your checking out the video my friend.

Remote control looks very handy. Does it work in both directions? I worked with robotic systems, the OSHA safety protocols are miles of red tape, usually written in blood. Imagine it is the same in the rails.
Yes it is bi directional Keith. And, most safety rules on the RR were at one time written in blood sadly. Very much appreciate your checking out the home movie today my friend.

What a treat seeing that truck put on the rails for the first time. Not much chance of seeing that very often. Like jon watt I am wondering how you align the rails precisely to weld them, when they are on the track bed ties they take great care to check for that as you showed in your welding video. Also I see the truck has no licence plate is that an ooops or is there some regulation for these vehicles
Glad you enjoyed today's home video cedarcam. They line the rails with the A frames just like they did in the welding video, only it takes a lot more messing around to get it just right if it's being done off track. I did not notice no plate! Next time Lucky comes in I will ask him about that. Appreciate your checking us out today my friend.

Gonna have another video out this

18 years old, as one could tell it's just broke in, but at least it's not broken.

What can one say? Very impressive!
Thank you John for the nice compliment. Really glad you tuned in to the channel today my friend.
You said that the mine owns 150 feet either side of the track. That is plenty of space to add a second track and an access road along the tracks
I know you said it would be a million dollars a mile, but I really think putting it in an connecting the track to CSX with a new yard would increase the number of trains you could pull each day.
An interchange would be awesome, but then we would also fall
under FRA inspections. Also what you don't know is that several
years ago they spent a ton of money to build a barge unloading
facility at LaBelle where they are able to load CSX trains from.
So with that now in place there will be no future rail interchange
here. One factor in that was the inability for certain land owners
willingness to sell a right of way to the mine. Our mine wanted
to belt coal over to Waynesburg at our sister mine emerald where
they do have a siding off NS trackage. But several land owners
would not sell so that idea fell thru also, that is why LaBelle came
into existence.
