  • In this video i look at a short clip of Dave Grohl on The Howard Stern Show and how he says that
to this day, it is still hard for him to listen to Nirvana. I also touch on Dave's band Foo Fighters and talk about how Dave's kids now ask him about his 'old band' Nirvana and questions they had on Kurt Cobain.

For dave grohl, so many things must be able to stimulate his memories of those times, not just songs from nirvana.
Being who he is, he must never be able to get away away from it in alot of ways.
When a person is like kurt cobain, you only really get on with people your comfortable with, thats a thing for empaths. You have to be comfortable with them, otherwise you are on the defensive with most people. People intentionally and unintentionally have different moods, and interact with people differently. When your empath, it comes across your really shy. When more so, its about the way you are a mirror to most people, meaning, that how others emotions and feelings and attitudes to you, bring about a mirroring effect in you towards them.
Thats why empaths can come across as shy, when in reality, its mainly down to the need they have to feel comfortable with others, and most people naturally just make you feel uncomfortable.
Being on stage as nirvana singer, and being empath, its not surprising that kurt could do it, as the crowd would of been buzzing for him, and that alone would of made him feel comfortable enough to do it.
I would suggest most people in public have no idea of knowing how it feels to be empathic, and be on stage, and just feel the buzz of having the crowds emotions for you.
So people misunderstand kurt being shy. I would say being an empath, he naturally did not feel comfortable around people. But on stage, with people watching him, and loving him, and getting excited by him being there, it would of given him a buzz, he could not get elsewhere.
So being shy would not be the right word, and its not really a contradiction him being a rock star, and being shy. For me, he was a real empath, and that means he interacts with people differently then most people, and most people do not appreciate the difference between being shy, and being an empath, and how interacting with people is different for empaths, over most people.
Thats also why kurt and nirvana liked playing small venues, as people were closer to the band, and fans would of been more closer and personal to the band, and kurt, rather then playing big stadiums, that he openly said he did not really like.
Most people are not really empathic, so they do not appreciate how empaths need to feel comfortable around people, and how most people you meet in life, naturally for what ever reason make you uncomfortable.
    Just adding this.
Thanks for your vids on nirvana, nice to see these vids.
Just pointing out why it was not a contradiction for kurt to come across as shy, and to be a rock star on stage. He was really an empath, and most people do not appreciate how real empaths are, and why they will often come across as really shy.

@@wathafukc Kurt was depressed and addict with suicide history in his family. I understand people don't want to admit he could take his life but that's just what happened. He talked and sang about it many times too. Courtney is unstable and causing drama but I don't think she would do it. People just want to blame her because it's easier than blaming Kurt. The fact that he had high dose in his system sounds suspicious, but I read it many times that he was taking too much even for a heavy addict. He was always going further and even his "drug friends" were surprised at how much he was taking. His body built more tolerance but it was just a question of time for him to take it too far. It's just tragic. There is no conspiracy

Kurt Cobain's death was the first time that a celebrity I never met death affected me. People like Kurt Cobain and Tom Petty are few and far between. I remember reading an interview with Nirvana where Kurt said he had enough songs written for about 10 extra albums. He refused to release all those songs even though most people would have enjoyed them. The reason was he didn't feel they lived up to his idea of a song worth charging for.

I listened to that interview the other day. It was really cool. Howard has a way of making you more interested in someone than you thought you would be. The long form interviews, combined with his interviewing style and lack of censorship, are conducive to putting the subjects at ease. Plus they're not given pre-scripted questions and asked to share preselected anecdotes, a la late night tv formats. Musically, the audio is incredibly produced, due to Howards state of the art performance studios in both the NYC and LA Sirius HQ’s.
I'm not saying that I had no prior interest or appreciation for the foo’s, as I've enjoyed quite a few of their hits throughout the years and they've been good guests on prior Stern Show appearances. But after this new interview, I actually went on iTunes to check out the new release on a long ride home from work.

I don’t have to turn the song off if i hear it on the radio or in a bar or something, but I NEVER listen to the Nirvana albums at home, the way i used to. Anyone else feel the same way? I live in Australia, I vividly remember the stretch of road that I was driving down , with 2 friends when we first heard Smells like teen spirit. It was a life changer, radically different than anything that was around at the time. We discovered that Nirvana were booked to play a liitle bar in Sydney and we all bought tickets 6 months in advance. By the time they arrived in Sydney Nevermind had broken, and they were playing huge venues, but we got to see them in a bar with maybe 100 other people.

There must be a metric shit ton of legal implications so he just doesn’t want to talk about it. It would be cool if he could get to a point where he can reflect back with gratitude and positivity. And perhaps even jam a Nirvana tune every now and again. Of course Dave will never have a real need to. His body of work speaks for itself. But it would be cool if could embrace his past and find the beauty in an otherwise tragic situation. There was some. And it was awesome. Regardless. Dave is a true American badass.

I can definitely understand that. I was only a fan and I still have a hard time listening to Nirvana. Once and a while I'll listen to an album or hear a track on the radio, but I don't really fully enjoy it.
Kurt's lyrics may seem confusing at first glance, but once you understand his style it's pretty clear what he's talking about and most of his songs are about the struggles of addiction and dealing with emotional issues and relationships. So it's tough listening to a song like Scentless Apprentice, for example, which Kurt said was just about a book he liked, but obviously he's identifying with the character's phobia of people and he's basically saying "get away from me and I'll kill myself before you can hurt me". That's tough to listen to when you know how things ended up for him.
The music is still amazing. I can play every note of every song and covered them live many times... but I just have a hard time listening just for pleasure and to rock out.

I don't think Kurt was so much shy as he was anxious about constant and reflexive judgements from hardened people. He didn't make 'art' he taught an entire population to not be afraid of sentiment towards women, gays, minorities, and the *not minorities. Only an active genius can really do that. The real tragedy is those that will never get to experience his accepting sentiment in real time, and the bigger hole he left that a person can be recognised as brilliant, and missed because of their person and not some persona.

I am reminded of The Hunger Games of how the tv show host is expected to rip into the painful details of the Tributes and Victors to lay it all out for the audience to get to feel actual human emotions and drives for connection and compassion rather than things like vanity and hedonism. Humanity sure as hell loves to pick at wounds fresh or scarred up. " To see if I still feel " ( (Trent Reznor ). It's screwed up that we don't understand grief to ask such stupid questions like " Is it too painful??" and then to expect everyone to just get over their losses all the time. There is such a thing as "leaning into the pain" a little too much and a little too long. Grief is an emotion that evolves and changes. It doesn't really go away or die in time. Grief is something that has no hope of ever being resolved. All the therapy or new age stuff, yoga, meditation etc in the world can never resolve feelings of loss for a person. Never completely.
