And yes, for me AC is worth it taking the risk losing assets. He's one of the best perimeter defenders of the league but they can also wait for free agency 2025, when he'll be a free agent.
Rui was useless when needed. Worst of all was the lack of effort. I like Rui but he can def be upgraded. At least Dlo is aggressive

D'lo as the guard slows the game. He just doesn't push the ball. it gives the defense to set up. I want a guard who aggressive and fast who could shake the defense up.
This team is potent, they need a true center and coach.
I'm going to go against the majority here. Most people seem to want to get rid of DLo over Rui. Neither one did well against Denver overall but at least Russell got hot a few times. He was also by far our third best player and best 3 point shooter in the regular season. We might not have even reached the play-in without him. When we had Westbrook, the goal was to get rid of him in favour of a better playmaker and 3 point shooter, and DLO accomplishes both goals. We needed Vando and Reddish for more wing defense against Denver, and they were both injured which isn't DLo's fault. Of course I'd take Donovan Mitchell over DLo, but it's DLo over Rui with the right pieces on the team.
D’lo dropping 0 points on 0-6 threes sold me on letting dlo go or trading him. He’s a SCORING guard. To drop 0 is a sin.

The point being at least a hot DLo gives us a real chance to win any game. Rui didn't give us much in any game. Also, the game DLo got zero points, I believe he still had the best plus minus on the team. So, it shows that he knows he needs to try harder on defense.

Rui missed several point blank layups, didn't go help on Murray on the final play in Game 5 with Tauren literally pushing him in the back & left Porter Jr wide open more times than I could count. DLO with the ball in his hands absolutely makes our team better and he needs the ball to get into rhythm.
Not to mention if the goal is to get a second real big for Denver, with lebron and AD also on the court, where is Rui supposed to go? As is, still probably better to let lebron take the 4 on D and get a better defensive 3 (and use healthy Vando there). It's nothing against Rui as a player, but he has always been the odd one out for this team. Just doesn't fit.
Very good explanation! I wanted Coach to benched Rui! He stood in the corner like I'm here throw me tje ball. He wasn't active at all. Max Christie deserves more trust as a potential 3 & D player. He should be our 2 off the bench consistently.

Hachimura scored 30 points in the game against Wolves, with LeBron absent and AD leaving the game midway through. Don't judge based on Nuggets game alone. I think it's a cheap deal even as a set with Vando.
We need a center so AD can play Power Forward, Vando has to come back healthy and we need a 3 and D point guard
If JaVale McGee can still play at a high enough level, I’d consider bringing him back for the vet minimum if he’s willing.
The Lakers keep both DLO and Rui and just hope Vando comes back healthy so Rui can go back to being a Super 6th man.

not even close I'm definitely keeping Rui. Rui should be LeBrons back up he shouldn't be starting next to him. they're both too slow defensively and should both be paired with a more athletic forward on defense like Vanderbilt.
Max Christie, Cam Reddish, Dinwidee and Vanderbilt are great defensive players. I hope they will continue to stay. DLo is the only legit shooter, he's the Steph Curry of Lakers. The addition of two big men is needed too like Valanciunas and McGee. This is just my opinion.

Yes, Gabe Vincent is a great defender too, I forgot to include him. All of them are also good shooters except for Vanderbilt. But Vanderbilt's 1:29 tight defense makes him so great that Lakers can't lose him. He can guard Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Jordan Poole, and others. Lakers only need two legit center like Valanciunas, McGee and/or Sabonis. That's just my opinion. Thanks.

dude, he held murray to 31.4% pct from the field (16-51 in the series). against all other players (except AD, which murray shot 50% against) murray scored 19-49 (38.7%) combined. so no, he didn't get cooked. and he played more consistent offense than d-lo and rui
check the stats - except 3pts and 0.6 assists a game - reaves did EVERYTHING better than d-lo (offense and defense) in fewer minutes in the playoffs
For a 2-Way defensive guard, probably Dejounte Murray or AC. Paul George also came to mind, but that's odee lol. However, Despite a few considerable similarities aside from being defensive liabilities, I think I'd be more comfortable trading or waiving D'Lo, solely bc he's had a slighly more consistent track record of either minimal or below average performances during the postseason, especially during big time games. Moreover, The LAL should trade Spencer, a draft pick or 2, a couple of the rookies, D'lo, Jaxson Hayes for 2 solid role players, and a 3rd-4th star

He’s a worse defender but he’s a far better playmaker. He’s a top 6 playmaker in the league(Luka, Jokic, Hali, LBJ, CP3, Trae)

I think both should stay. It’s difficult to have a good defensive PG given that most PGs have high usage rates. Vando was suppose to bring the defensive mind and players like C Wood stepped up the best they could.

If the Lakers decide to keep Dlo and reaves in the backcourt, then I would probably trade Rui for a physical center. CWood should be backup 4 and either Hayes or sign JaVale for backup 5. If you’re starting AD at the 5 then Vando should be the starting 3.

If the lakers move on from anybody it should be Rui and Austin…DLo impacted winning a lot more than either…AR can be traded for Alex Caruso str8 up…Austin had more negative plus minus games than positive and plus his defensive rating on the season was 117.9 while DLo was 118.1 that’s almost identical

Putting Rui on Yokic I think bothered him a lot, but he figured both out and played better! Rui can be a better team defender, than an assignment defender! He should focus on being more solid with the basics, like blocking out tracking down the flight of a ball coming off the rim, work on his footwork, he haven’t scratched his surface yet!!
If Rui didn’t have an absolute stinker of a series I’d say he can stay no doubt. That being said I’d still keep him, he showed defensive effort and if his rebounding can come in finally he’ll be a good consistent contributor
Did you watch him in the playoffs? He fell asleep on Porter Jr several times, and doesn't even average 4 rebounds a game in 11 games vs Denver. He's a one way player & the reality is if he's not scoring, he doesn't do anything else well.

Ham kept pulling Rui out at 6 mins at the start of every game---right when he started hitting threes and scoring well. Rui definitely needs to leanr how to assist and work on better defense but I think that his scoring will continue to improve along with other aspects of his game.
They both are not failure it's Darwin ham fault for not giving the other players on the team a simple roles because everyone else is not offensive or defensive so he should had cam Gabe, Max defense role and Jason Hayes in the the lineup so Ad will be at the 4 against small ball lineup in feel that he can't execution simple strategy or make adjustments in the 2nd half of games

He really needs to work on a floater and hook shots at the rim rather than those off balance fades he takes. Then work on footwork and positioning on D. I think getting a solid PG that's decent on D that can deal with LeBron facilitating a lot is what the Lakers need. Doesn't need to be a star either. I'd like one that can get into the paint and get to the line as well.

When he ran the point when DLO was out he had 26, so maybe they can give him a go as a starting point and have someone else or even keep Gabe as a back up Point for the bench. I would take DLo over Rui if I had to choose between the two. Rui often get destroyed guarding anybody. It bad to be a big guy and not reliable on defense. DLo is awful as well on defense but he is better than Rui. Rui is a statue mix with a turtle on the basketball court. Finish by saying please get rid of Reaves, Prince, and Gabe. Not going to say Spencer because Lakers never gave him a chance to play his game.

I don't think this is actually true, I think they actually need to choose between D'Lo and LeBron. It may seem weird, but LeBron is as much a defensive liability as either of them during the course of the season. It's hard to cover up a majorly weak defensive player like D'Lo, and a senior citizen who leads the league in pointing at his man dunking at the same time. ESPECIALLY when Austin Reaves is your best POA Defender. It's even more apparent when you consider a big part of D'Lo's problems in the post-season is that he's reduced to a catch and shoot player, basically eliminating his playmaking that's a huge part of his game, because when it actually matters, the ball is always in LeBron's hands on any team he's ever been a part of. If You don't believe me, look at game 1 vs the Nuggets, and the game in Boston -LeBron and AD. Bother games D'Lo didn't have his shot, and put it up 20 times. The Lakers won the one without LeBron in it, and lost the one with him.
What the Lakers need is for Austin Reaves to be the 2nd worst perimeter defender on the court while making sure AD remains the only bad shooter on the court. AD being the only bad shooter on the court is what unlocked their offense this year, if they can maintain that AND move Reaves into a more sustainable defensive role, good things will happen. I'd pick LeBron over D'Lo for sure, in a vaccum, but we don't live in a vaccum.
If we throw away what little remains of our future for some bum like Trae Young, whose just D'Lo cranked to the extreme. I'm going to be pissed, especially if we waste a 1st round pick on a nepo baby just to appease some aging narcissist.
I don't think Lakers need to decide on one thing and that's some way parting ways with LeBron. Nobody will ever maximize their game playing with him. If the point guard is playing good he'll find a way to take over the point guard duties. It's sickening for me to watch him bringing the ball down the court when he have capable point guards to do that. He need to work to get open but no picks no block out no noting.
Even though Rui didn't do good against the Nuggets, he has followed through on more occassions and situations compared to DLO who has shriveled against the Nuggets two playoffs series in a row. Rui is a much more reliable player.

Key reasons why our team was not a good defense, was because of personnel. DLo is awful on defense. Austin has spots where he is a good defender. Rui was borderline unplayable at times and constantly got beat off the dribble by faster players (solid post defender but a poor perimeter defender). Lebron is 40 and he already admitted his defense was spotty. AD is a defensive masterpiece.
That there is your reason. Your backcourt wasn’t good enough. One of your superstars is old as dirt. The other superstar is basically making up for everyone else’s mistakes. Oh and Rui is bad on the perimeter.

Rui and Dlo and AR all overated children who end up pissing their pants vs the nuggets. To small to play defense, not enough talent to score. Why keep em?
How do you put AR in this mix? AR averaged 20.6 in the last 3 games and didn't he take and make a bunch of clutch shots in game 5? Yeah, AR played kind of timid in the first 2 game but from game 3, he started to play more like himself. DLo played well the 2nd game but he's too up and down and doesn't engage with his teammates, that's why I don't like him. And how can you say AR and DLo don't score? DLo does score but tends to do more when his 3 ball is falling. AR is different and will go in the paint and to the line to get points.

@@VA_QUALITY I don't know what you're watching because he's not slow. He's actually pretty crafty and quick and is able to break defender's ankles and get space for his shots. He certainly isn't scared and he's not all that weak and can get stronger. I didn't see any flops from him either. You're underrating his will and ability to step up in the clutch.

Why would you want to trade Reaves? Reaves has solid handling, takes and makes big shots in the clutch, and plays well with both Bron and AD. It's hard to find players that play well with Bron. Plus Reaves has a great attitude about critiquing and imporving his own game and to me shows a will to win that a lot of the other role players don't show. Plus he's 25 and he didn't miss a game last season.
