Playing hide and seek with any creditor is a guaranteed way to punch a gaping hole in your credit. The hospital wants to be paid and they will work with you to make it possible. Do what Vivian suggests. Additionally I suggest be honest about the monthly repayment amount you can afford. Otherwise you’ll have problem fulfilling your monthly payments.
Dr. Offices over charge as a buffer because insurance underpays. Ps if you don't have any chronic issues it's usually cheaper to self pay especially if you see a Dr maybe once a year.
Girl! Thank you. I didn't know it affected credit score. I have one in collections but it's an error on their part because my insurance pays 100%. Been dealing with it for about a year.

@Victoria Green You're welcome! I use to work for a major health insurance company. I would get a calls now and again from members/patients asking for an EOB (Explanation of Benefits) b/c a hospital or doctor's office made an error and was trying to charge the patient. Most would get settled quickly as they truly were errors. However there were some instances that needed more assistance. I'm sending you good vibes so that this gets resolved quickly and hope your AG's Healthcare Division can help.
Rich people don't negotiate medical bills and fewer even look at their bills. They can afford health insurance. They pay the difference when the insurance company sends them the explanation of benefits which settles out their deductible and co-insurance. Poor people negotiate bills because they don't have personal insurance policies or a job with a company that does.
After 5 years those negative medical bills can be dropped off your report. Push hard for charity care. The Attorney General in WA State sued 1 of the mega conglomerates because they were refusing to offer charity care.
I’m from Canada 🇨🇦, so one time I had a black out and seizure and got taken to the hospital. I had to stay the night in the hospital, my total bill was $100 , which was for the ambulance. If this was in the States how expensive would it have been ?
The fact that the bill can be dramatically reduce because you're paying in full just make it more blatant that the prices of the bills are made up with RNG
Thank you for the advice you give. How do one handle a car? that's about to go into collections. Can making small payments. Help stay in a little good grace? With the loan company.
Also (medical student here) if it's not an emergency, express to your doctor that cost is an issue when discussing treatment options. They may be able to recommend/prescribe less expensive meds, skip a few labs/diagnostics that may not be actually necessary but are recommended under the CYA policy (cover your ass), etc. Doctors do not actually want you to go into debt to take care of yourself. That's healthcare admin. Healthcare admin sucks.
This. My son got appendicitis when we didn't have insurance. We told the doctor at urgent care that we didn't have insurance, and he called the hospital and let them know. They arranged for us to check in at the front desk (after hours patients generally have to go through the ER which adds expense). They did the surgery within a few hours, so we wouldn't be paying for him to sit in a hospital room until the next day which shortened our stay. I think they skipped some pre-imaging too.
Or y’all could just wait 7 years until they fall off your credit report. Because most of those programs hospitals have don’t help as much as you say they do.
hey RICHBFF...can you tell me how opening up an account with Marcus is better than any other savings besides the apy? Erika said money in a savings account only decreases in value over time so how is Marcus different?

Do what Vivian suggests. Additionally I suggest be honest about the monthly repayment amount you can afford. Otherwise you’ll have problem fulfilling your monthly payments.
Great info, thanks
They took medical bills in collections off of credit! So unless they reverse that law there is no downside to not paying them if you cannot.
I was always told medical bills don't affect your credit score 👀
That is correct
Do we call the hospital itself or our insurance provider?
Victoria Green, if there was an error on the hospital's side and they are not correcting it, try calling your Attorney General's Healthcare Division. They may be able to help you. Good luck
@@Loris360 Ohmygosh thank you!!! I've called the director of the hospital, left messages, spoke to her once but don't think she was planning on doing anything about it. Thank you. I'll do this.
@@Loris360 AHH! You rock so much!!!
Medical debt does not affect your credit. It will be on your credit report but can't be a factor & doesnt affect your score.
I have done this before! It works!
It’s all about knowledge
I owe about 250,000$ to a hospital that my insurance didn’t cover, I’m NEVER going to be able to pay that so I just said screw it🤷🏼♀️
WHEW😳 I owed about 100k at the end of last year from chemo but I’ve been slowly negotiating each bill away, I’ve got about 52k left
Omg
.
This came in just in time
I’m going to need to hear more about that finger. I hope it healed up ok!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Medicare for all !!
What about dental? Any tips for playing ball where they tend to be private practices??
I thought medical bills/medical debt didn’t go against your credit score
After 5 years those negative medical bills can be dropped off your report. Push hard for charity care. The Attorney General in WA State sued 1 of the mega conglomerates because they were refusing to offer charity care.
I’m from Canada 🇨🇦, so one time I had a black out and seizure and got taken to the hospital. I had to stay the night in the hospital, my total bill was $100 , which was for the ambulance. If this was in the States how expensive would it have been ?
The fact that the bill can be dramatically reduce because you're paying in full just make it more blatant that the prices of the bills are made up with RNG
They don’t cut you any deals, like everywhere else, they let you pay installments
Thank you for the advice you give. How do one handle a car? that's about to go into collections. Can making small payments. Help stay in a little good grace? With the loan company.
Can we learn more on dental bills , and why are they costing more than seeing m.d.
🏆♥️🏆♥️🏆Vivian 🏆♥️🏆♥️🏆
Vivian, does this work when we have employer paid insurance and when all discounts already come applied in the bill?
Nope. Your portion doesn't get another discount.
does this apply to a bill sent to collections? asking for a friend 👀
Just get insurance.
Sweet!
I will do this next time! I also want to know if they charge you for a box of something (like gauze, or whatever) I will want what they didn't use!!
Oooor, move to Europe :D healthcare is free here
Also (medical student here) if it's not an emergency, express to your doctor that cost is an issue when discussing treatment options.
Awesome
If it’s deductible or coinsurance they cannot negotiate. And most forgiveness programs are income based.
None of this worked for me, only the payment plans 😭
Does this work for dental too?
Or y’all could just wait 7 years until they fall off your credit report. Because most of those programs hospitals have don’t help as much as you say they do.
No need to negotiate get all the best service you can and just don’t pay them and wait 7 years and your credit is good again.
❤
This isn't the case for outpatient centers
What is you have insurance?
“errors”
Why would one have medical bills if you have heath insurance?
hey RICHBFF...can you tell me how opening up an account with Marcus is better than any other savings besides the apy? Erika said money in a savings account only decreases in value over time so how is Marcus different?
Wouldn't email be better for a paper trail?
Someone mentioned something similar to me but it was too late, I already paid. Hospital care in the USA is such a cartel. Makes the Mexican cartels looks like friendly neighbours.
It cost millions to run a hospital.
What about co pays. Can they also be negotiated?
I FOUND THAT MY DENTIST TRIED TO CHARGE ME MORE THAN THE OINTRACT THAT THE Y HAVE WITH MY INSURANCE!! CHECK THAT TOO!!!
But wouldnt tjat put you in a blacklist.. like if they know u cannot afford.. they might lower your fees but the next time they might not attend to you
Life Hack: just don't pay it
If your credit score is ruined, and a bill collector calls who you have no relationship with or a company has sold their debt what is the point of paying debt sold to a third party? Is that money not better used for investing?
Or 5, let that shit go to collections and fall off in 7 years.
medical bills, collection or not, do not impact your credit score.
