After the last video, I was hooked and wanted to have a new style Glaser B-Bender installed in one of my guitars. The Bill Crook-built Paisley seemed like the appropriate candidate, so I set up a time for an install, and Joe agreed to the entire process being filmed. Besides me removing the strings, and Joe removing the neck, this is the entire installation process from beginning to end. I hope through watching this you can see what would be involved in having one installed in your guitar, but more than that, I hope you can see both the brilliance of Glaser's design and how ingenious his installation procedure is. The reason for the new bender mechanism being so streamlined was that Joe had to develop a bender mechanism and installation procedures that could be used by large guitar manufacturers. This is the same mechanism that is installed by Fender USA into the Brent Mason Signature model, and by Fender's Custom Shop into some of their high-end models.
Joe also shows how he strings vintage-style tuners and locks the plain strings for greater tuning stability.

Saturday morning with a fresh cup of coffee watching Joe Glaser install his new B-Bender in a Telecaster is about as good as it gets. Learned a lot from just listening to his thought process and watching him work. Joe might be a guitar repairman by trade but he has a problem solving engineering mind. Thanks for sharing another outstanding video!

I love that he mentioned the end mill in a collet thing. I worked as a machinist for years. It made me nervous to see that until he mentioned it was not correct and I realized he did indeed know how to use that thing.
I call that doing the wrong thing the right way.
I use to hang out at Joe’s old shop in the early to mid 80s and help out winding Mandocaster pickups. He is a class act.

Yup. Being that I lived out on the west side of town his shop back then was real convenient to say the least.
Normally I would cry at the site of a guitar being drilled into so cavalierly but when you’re talking about Joe it’s like watching the worlds most accomplished surgeon and you know everything is going to be amazing when he’s finished ❤
I’m a 32 year finish carpenter, and am amazed by Joe’s abilities as a craftsman and innovator. I called his shop one time and he actually answered the phone , and had a 20 min discussion...
I loved that! Great episode. Joe seems to be a pretty humble guy. That b-bender is a great design. It was great watching it being assembled in its entirety.

A pretty neat video! You can really see the thought Joe Glaser has put into this. The tools have been designed to improve the efficiency and to eliminate potential errors from what is quite precise process. I’d really like to get one of these. Not only do they work great, the impact to the guitar is about as minimal as it could be.
What a master. Letting us see behind the curtain was awesome. The guy who is responsible for some of my favorite sounds. I can only aspire to one day get good enough to make the investment to add a binder to one of my guitars. I am still at the stage I wouldn’t want to add something else to distract me from my journey of learning to pick

Beautiful guitars. I have a 1996 American Standard strat I bought new and have played a lot for someone who doesn’t play out. And it doesn’t show a lick of wear, kind of like plastic. I really prefer a guitar that shows it’s been used. Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge!!!
I have watched this several times and still love it . I made my living repairing guitars, but his shop equipment is fantastic. A milling machine , 3d printer and hejust knows how to use it.
The only easy way to get a Glaser Bender Tele in Germany is to buy a Fender Brent Mason. So I bought one. Ask Zac is a great youtube channel and I'm not even a country fan.

@@timklausnitz The Bender is working excellent. I'm trying to figure out how to use it in Blues. The pickups are good and the combinations are interesting. But I will switch some tradional Tele pickups.

Very clever device. I agree with him this is not something to be done in the average garage. There's too much chance of ruining a prized guitar. Joe has put a lot of thought and work into this design and deserves the fruit of his labor. Thanks for sharing.

I’m a 65 year old woodworker, and I wouldn’t think of attempting this surgery even with all the jigs (without Joe’s guidance)! Not a trivial procedure!!!
That was awesome! I love the fact that there is so little wood removed compared to the old Parsons/White string benders. You really showed every aspect of how he does it, and how well thought out his process is. Glaser looks like a really stand-up guy.

This is a whirlwind of emotions for me. I had one installed about a year ago, and it’s really cool to see the process. I love the thing. Still, Imagining my Tele under that drill press makes me feel uneasy. 😂
Or with that 20” bolt tunneling through! I feel like wood can be so unpredictable when doing things like that. Can’t imagine doing that to someone else’s guitar
How much of a pain is it to change the B string ?
@@brandongoodman1017, not a hassle at all. It’s actually easier to change than the other five. There’s a video on the Glaser bender channel where he shows you how to do it. You kinda put a little kink/hook in the end of the b string, and just feed it through.
I have a crook custom just like that, it will have a bender soon. Oddly enough I also have that exact strap from the 90's! You have good taste Zac!

Watched your vid on the B/G convertible bender and because of that I just sent Joe my tele yesterday...I spoke with him on the phone and the guys funny as hell.... I mentioned your vid as my source in an email to Joe and this was what he said about you in his reply: "He's great...really helping spread accurate info".

That "cutting back through the valley" trick at 45:21 is something I have done for years, and it is the best thing ever. Never have string slip on unwound strings ever again.

This was great Zac, thanks for taking us along. I work in a machine shop with both mills and lathes this was cool to see!
We can thank Schaller for tuners that stay in place and don't unwind from string tension. The original M6 tuners had a special "locking mechanism" inside that meant they stayed where you left them and wouldn't move. That mechanism was the worm gear & sprocket design that's basically become the industry standard for everyone from the cheapest tuners to the most expensive. They all use the Schaller gear design inside so the tuners don't slip.
That's likely why he said that without question, almost any tuner will work fine. They will. If a new tuner slips or even an old tuner that's been in use for a while, the first place to look is for wear or damage to the gear mechanism. 👌

50:56 is very true. I lost the e clip on one of my Dunlop strap lock very long ago and finally have gotten to replace it after when I started getting into motorcycle building lol

I have an older Parsons/White B-bender on one of my Teles. It's been installed for over 35 years at least. It has an early serial number according to Gene Parsons. I love it and I'm considering sending my pine Tele to Joe for one of his B-benders.

Nice vid, thanks. Interesting to see the fitting process & Joe comes across as a decent guy; he's obviously had many years to iron out the bugs & has a tidy well organised set-up there. If only my workshop was like that!😀
Watching again because I'm preparing to have a Glaser installed. I have to use the ground wire under the bridge because the screws in my pickup don't thread into the plate, they're just clearance holes, and my other teles have chopped bridges with humbuckers. I would however omit the wire if I was using a Duncan Like I had for a while.

I played Tele’s for the majority of my 31 years as a half-assed guitar player but had sold my last Tele in 2018 with the intention of quitting. (Divorce makes men do stupid things.) I ended up replacing it with something completely foreign to me, a PRS Custom 24 SE Roasted Maple. Long story short, watching this video and seeing all those Tele’s has got me thinking.
