A year later! Just had the crew at Glaser put in a B-Bender / Nashville wiring. Just wanted to add that with the pot out in second position you get all three pickups. Joe and crew are fantastic to work with and they are fast!
I can’t wait till October. I’m flying to Nashville from the UK, and I’m getting Joe to put a bender on one of my Teles, and wire the pick ups Nashville style. 👍😀
I built a three-pickup Warmoth/Fender Telecaster recently and the wiring circuit I used is superb. I used a 4-pole "superswitch" so I get position 1 - bridge only, 2 - bridge and middle, 3 - bridge and neck, 4 - middle and neck and 5 - neck only. So I get the Stratocaster inbetween sounds on 2 and 4 and the usual Telecaster selections on 1, 3 and 5 and there's no useless middle pickup only setting. It's made the guitar incredibly versatile and I'm going to rewire some of my Strats the same way.
I just had a bender installed by Joe's shop and including shipping, both ways, I was only without it for 10 days and that included the Memorial Day holiday. Pretty darn quick turnaround. His shop sure does great work.
Nice. You may officially be the best advertisement for the Glaser Benders. The price and technical aspects make it a great option. Also, Brad Paisley, Steve Wariner, Ricky Skaggs, in addition to yourself" that's compelling!
Great episode! Love the versatility of the blend knob and a b-bender. Making me very anxious for my Brent Mason telecaster. Still waiting for it to arrive. It’s been 10 months now and counting! But well worth the wait.
Great lesson and demo Zac. My Tele’s there now having the B/G bender installed, medium throw. Was unsure of which (B/G?) would be most useful to me. Convertible put the issue to rest and l’m excited to experiment between each when it arrives back here next week. Also, thanks for the video of you over at Joe’s place having a bender installed. I was sort of worried when I saw the big drill bits boring down through the body, and hearing Joe talk about how he avoids wood-chipping during the process. But hey … it’s Joe Glaser, the master and ultimate inventor / innovator!! You guys sold me and I shipped my guitar the next day 😂.
I put 51 nocasters in mine keep the fender noiseless middle pickup. It has a swamp ash body made and finished by Guitar Mill in Murfreesboro TN and the neck is a 12 inch radius made in Mexico/Fender
The magnificent bends in "Chestnut Mare" sell the bender for me. I'm a fan of the Strat's middle pickup and the Tele's bridge pickup, so with his setup, I can have both... hmm. Damn' you, got a lot of gas now. :) Always a pleasure to hear from you, Zac.
Thanks Zac! cool axe,,I recently got a partscaster wired a la Broadcaster with the blend and its a very cool feature.. Interstingly the guitar winds up having two really useful "in between" positions..don't know if this is how original works or not but one position seems like it is running straight neck pickup in parallel w/ tone cap for less muddy sound. Other reduces hum of blend(?). Glaser setup seems like something to ponder for next tele(one is too many, 100 ain't enough)
What's Nashville wiring? Hmmm. Might redo my wiring to "50s era" soon. I'll tell you what. My solid ash, blonde with black pickguard T sounds incredible now that I've installed the Fender 62 Custom Tele neck and Fender American Vintage 52 Tele bridge pickups. Much much closer to what I hear when others play their Teles. So I'm quite satisfied. I put a 4 way switch in, also. So I've got the series option now, which I really like a lot, it turns out.
Mine is a std 3 way switch. With a third blend knob. Switch in the middle and blend up is all three pickups. I like all 3 for slide. I like Bridge and just a little middle pickup because it introduces noise canceling and like you say it takes the high end!
Sounds great Zac. I had one of those Music City Juniors a couple of years back. Great design, but if I'm honest, it was a guitar made very much to a price point, lots of cheaper components used in the construction -- I had two screw heads for the bridge break off when I was removing the bridge to change it from a B to G Bender. Didn't keep the guitar as a result of those issues. I also had a Tom Anderson Tele with a Parsons White, but that was quite a bulky unit and made the guitar very heavy. I would love to try one of these updated Glaser Bender systems someday. Thanks for the video as always!
I modded my tele with the 3 duncans and it's sweet. I also did Joe G's advice too with the middle as a single. Man it is a hot Pup and when engaged it sure is a boost in sound. Anyone have one set up and can share your favorite Pup heights. I'm kinda new at that, and am not sure of exactly the method behind how to listen correctly. Single coils and a mini Humb. Are there different recommendations on heights? Low E high E? I will keep tinkering and still need to train my ear on it. And I love Zac's videos. Keep em' coming!
The new Glaser bender sounds as smooth as it seems to work. You mentioned the possible adjustments, but I didn’t catch which levels of adjustment the “Bdaycaster’s” bender had… That’s the most interesting 3 p/u Tele I’ve ever heard. Clever controls! Good episode!
Thanks, Zac, You really do have the most informative and interesting podcast around. You and Five Watt World are my favorite UA-cam channels and I'm so appreciative for the intelligence and passion you bring to the table. This Glaser bender system along with adding a middle pickup sure makes the Tele a more versatile instrument. I have a Nashville Deluxe Tele on order but it comes with the noiseless pickups. I've always had mixed feelings about the noiseless pickups but it's nice to have something quieter when you have bad power in a Street Fair or some dive bar. I haven't decided if I'm going to replace the pickups yet. I'm a primarily a singer/rhythm guitarist, not a lead player, so I'm not quite as picky about tiny nuances of tone. But tone still matters obviously. You have any feelings about the latest Fender noiseless pickups in general?
I have a Nashville with Jimmy Vaughan pickups that has a classic tele sound…but def need my noisegate for any high gain. The noiseless ones in my latest tele definitely lose a bit of that tele bite, but is quiet and smooth sounding. You’ll love it no matter what!
Thanks Zac this vid cost me a pretty penny. My new Brent Mason is on the way. Well it showed and like you said Brent wanted a guitar that covered many sounds and it does that well. Thanks Zac for making a video that sold me on the guitar. The Glazer B bender works great. CW
Another great video, Zac! I’ve got to check out that blend circuit for the middle pickup. On my bender Tele, I have a regular 5-way switch with a push-pull switch on the tone control to add the neck pickup to the bridge. Works for me, but that blender sounds real intriguing! Side note: I had EMGs in that Tele for a while, with volume/tone controls plus the EMG mid-boost pot, and three knobs on a Tele control plate don’t work for me. They’re too close together.
My Nashville Tele had the 5 way switch, but I could not get bridge & neck together, which is one of my fav Tele sounds. Replaced the 5 way with a standard 3 way and added the 3rd knob for middle pickup volume. Works great.
I use a 5-way switch together with push/push switch pots for various switchable functions - one of which is adding the middle pickup to whatever else is currently selected on the 5-way. So, to get bridge and neck together, the 5-way is set to bridge and the neck is brought in with the push/push pot switch. The appearance of the guitar is not changed at all. A switch is less fiddly than a blend pot and a push/push is infinitely quicker than a push/pull pot.
I checked out Rutters for their switch tips but didn't see anything better than what I found at Forney Customs. Right here in the US, they make black anodized aluminum OEM-style tips as well as a number of other colors and designs. They have a set screw, also, and cost about half of what the Rutters tips cost. Plus you can get a stock appearing tip from Forney. I don't recall seeing that at Rutters.
Curious, doesn't the 3 knob blend setup allow for all three pickups on, then blends in the middle pickup? Also believe Brent is all noiseless pickups? I have done the three pickups but have not yet changed the controls/setup yet. It is on an American Standard Ash body and maple neck guitar. Great but still go for my 52 AVRI Hot Rod Tele because I love the mini humbucker sound. The vintage sounds a bit different than the Standard.
Here is a thought you should pass on to Joe: make that blend control a push-pull which activates the neck pup. Same mechanics still apply, only this time you would get the neck and bridge position together when the push-pull is activated and the blender ability to add/blend in the middle for an additional 'all three' pups together option. This would still keep the overall functionality cleaned up without too many 'selections' with too many switches, yet still add to over tone selection. I think that might be a pretty cool idea....
Hey Zac. I notice that A LOT of Teles have wear on the fretboard on the very last slab of wood, past fret 21, on the very edge of the board. I know people aren't fretting strings there since there's no fret so what causes all the wear after the last fret? All I can come up with is that the saddles have to be set very very low. So low that the strings scrape that edge of the fretboard closest to the neck pickup when fretted. If not that, then what causes it? Because I see it allllllll the time and I wonder how it happens each and every time I see it 😄👌
I don't like anything printed on pickups either, but I use Meguire's Scratch-X to get rid of it. It has much finer abrasives and won't leave the pickups looking all scratched up.

Magnificent work - How does it work if you want to adjust the neck action and take it off to adjust the truss rod. Does having the Glaser Bender and adjust knob in the neck plate make things tricky? Love your channel Zac!
No. The bender actuator mechanism won't fall out or get damaged if or when you loosen the plate to remove the neck or adjust the truss rod. Zac mentioned his during his review of the BM guitar last year.
Hey Zac, do you use any kind of lubricant where the bender finger engages with the string? If so which type? I was thinking a tiny drop of the liquid graphite type might be good.
This Bender is the same on Brent Mason Fender Telecaster? I have one and the unique mod i do to her was raise up the middle and bridge pups...this thing have a GREAT punch clean tone with a Boss Cs-3 in the line.... before the mini humbucker overpower the other pups but now...i love it... In the past i have the Valley Arts Brent Mason model...in the future was cool you doing a comparative... Valley Arts vs Fender Brent! And one more thing, be careful with a 2007 Squier vintage modified Telecaster HSS...BE careful...this Tele with a Hot ceramic in the bridge position uh UH Thanks for the video and salutes from Spain Zak!
hi. really enjoyed the tour of this swiss army knife guitar. so no tone control at all or is the blend knob a traditional tone control except in the #1 position. ?
@@AskZac I’m thinking that gizmo is the perfect solution to my skinny sponge-caster... (Paulownia guitar fetish “second” body that none of the holes were in the right place😳 -that’s already had it’s own version of the “pocket knife” treatment on the neck.)
Hey, Zac! What do you think about stainless steel frets? I have a Thinline Tele that really needs a refret, and I'm hoping to have it done soon. I know I want vintage tall frets like 6105's, but I'm wondering about the tonality of the fret material. Thanks for any insight!
Ask Zac, Hi Zac, welcome to New Zealand mate, No Covid, No Snakes, No Crocs. We are so far away from the other side of the world, that I'm afraid it would cost a fortune to send a Tele over from here then Back, plus pay Mr. Glaser's time to make one of these beauts. It would most probably the same price to buy one from him already made up. Whats your thoughts on that ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Gib
I'm a bit late to the party here but I'm wondering if there's any issues with intonation on the string opposite of the bent string. Like how close to in tune is the G string when set up for B-bending and vice versa?
How do you not stab the side of your left hand with the bender arm when you go for the higher frets? I played a BM sig Tele the other day and I couldn't work around the bender arm. Can it be adjusted to be out of the way of my hand?
@@AskZac I got to try it out on a Brent Mason sig tele the other day and I loved it. So... I contacted Mr. Glaser yesterday and I'm bringing my 51 Nocaster relic to him for his bender install in two weeks. Thanks for the vids about his bender system and for answering my question!
I have a headless version of a strat that has an individual toggle switch for each pickup. I can do bridge/ neck to emulate a tele, and I can also do all three on. Combined with a humbucker with a push/pull selector at the bridge position, the possibilities are quite extensive. As for Leo? He’d say “Cool!!”😎
Hey have you heard of the “bender by bjorn”? it’s a Swedish bender system that seems a lot simpler than a lot of other ones, I would love to see you check it out! (Especially since I’m a swede myself haha)
That's a lame solution. Messing with knobs, push-pots and such. Add a 3-way Switchcraft for the middle pickup between the other knobs in addition to the trad Tele switch. The settings of the added middle pickup switch are: Solo, Add and Mute. Works slick and looks cool.
so it took about 15 famous names to put together this experience guitar?! I wish I could understand what a string bender actually is! It mechanically bends ONE of your strings for you? It costs 700 dollars? It sounds just like your bending a string? There's something I'm still missing ...I've watched half a dozen videos...on string benders...not one has yet explained...what it is...really...I'll try Wikipedia?!!

Soooo…does the blender knob function as a tone knob for the neck and middle or are they just cranked all the time?
The blender only functions when the bridge is selected
Hey, Zac! What do you think about stainless steel frets? I have a Thinline Tele that really needs a refret, and I'm hoping to have it done soon. I know I want vintage tall frets like 6105's, but I'm wondering about the tonality of the fret material. Thanks for any insight!
I say go for it. Some claim they are brighter, but I like how long they last.
If it was my guitar, the blend control would add neck to the bridge
Ask Zac, Hi Zac, welcome to New Zealand mate, No Covid, No Snakes, No Crocs. We are so far away from the other side of the world, that I'm afraid it would cost a fortune to send a Tele over from here then Back, plus pay Mr. Glaser's time to make one of these beauts. It would most probably the same price to buy one from him already made up. Whats your thoughts on that ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Gib
Maybe check out a Brent Mason model. One is already on that. Or you could buy a body in the states and have it sent to Joe.
Beefy V. Thanks Redd.
I'm a bit late to the party here but I'm wondering if there's any issues with intonation on the string opposite of the bent string. Like how close to in tune is the G string when set up for B-bending and vice versa?
No issues. Used one for 20 plus years
Suggestion -- Put a guitar on that shirt to identify the sickness LOL
Agreed
does the blend knob do anything on the other positions besides the bridge?
no
I have a Fender Tele that came with the b-Bender pre-Installed. Could I have my b-bender converted to a G-Bender?
By Glaser?
Well, the bender is a Fender. I’m just talking about in general.
Great show & tell. I have to get a Glaser bender in one of my Telecasters!
How do you not stab the side of your left hand with the bender arm when you go for the higher frets? I played a BM sig Tele the other day and I couldn't work around the bender arm. Can it be adjusted to be out of the way of my hand?
It does not move out of the way. I have used one for 25+ years. Never had an issue, yet I guess I changed my technique.
I had a question about your guitar strap it says lucky on it Do you sell those
No. It was a gift. No idea where it came from. Doing a search seems to indicate they only do camera straps now.
Such a cool guitar. I really would like one, but would be fairly intimidated by all the bells and whistles.
Where could a guy find this exact wiring diagram at?
They only sell the prewired assembly
@@AskZac so with that is there any time on the front and middle pickups?
Might mod my tele with that style blend control. Thanks Zach!
Hey Zac doesn’t brad paisley use a Charlie mcvey bender in all his teles?? Because I watched a rig rundown that chad weaver did.
He has both McVay and Glaser benders
What brands are the pickups?
Ellis and Seymour Duncan
I find that the middle pickup on mine is really under powered compared to the neck and bridge pickups
I agree with Leo , 3 way switch for me. Don't care for positions 2 and 4.
How's that compares to the Hipshop10300?
Never played one
Does the $650 includes the middle pickup?
No, that is for the bender.
i got a brent mason tele and i break a lot of b strings, is there a cure etc ?cheers
Where do they break?
@@AskZac on the b bender saddle ,leves about 5mm of string and the ball etc.
maybe some machine oil etc ? , ps love your you tube shows!
@@AskZac on top of the b saddle etc
Hey have you heard of the “bender by bjorn”? it’s a Swedish bender system that seems a lot simpler than a lot of other ones, I would love to see you check it out! (Especially since I’m a swede myself haha)
Install one, and your tired tele is BJORN again...😂🤣
I will have to check that out
Installed an " F Bender " on my Tele ....gives you that " failed" sound ...😟
No neck+bridge position?
Never mind.... shoulda waited til the end. 😂😂😂
That's a lame solution. Messing with knobs, push-pots and such. Add a 3-way Switchcraft for the middle pickup between the other knobs in addition to the trad Tele switch. The settings of the added middle pickup switch are: Solo, Add and Mute. Works slick and looks cool.
@@richsackett3423 You would miss the glory of the blend.
@@AskZac My playing is not worthy of such glory.
so it took about 15 famous names to put together this experience guitar?!
Wouldn't that take away the ability to do feaux wah tone knob swells?
It would
Bummer, surprising enough I use that function quite a bit ripping off 1950s lap steel and early pedal steel licks.
That's $650 to install right?
yes
'You could switch it...NOT on the fly.'. Zach, you make awfully hard not to like you! My man! 😘👍
Damn. I built my own G & B bender into my guitars and probably spent more than $650 on tools, time and parts haha
Can’t put a price on fun though! Haha
At the end when you are at the bench....is that your MAGA hat in the corner?
No. It says "Make Gibson Great Again" It was a joke during the time Henry J was being forced out as Gibson's CEO.
@@AskZac Cool!! I will look for one, I would love to get one!
