Ian Gillan had so much versatility in his vocal performances . He was never able to explorer it professionally and he and his fans were cheated. Those were the days when record companies had creative control over the artists. Music In My Head is a superior example. It sounds like a hit soundtrack from a movie , an excellent example of his singing POP ability . He had the vocal ability to go where ever he wanted . This album reminds me of another former Rock lead singer who went on to have a very distinctive solo career after the drummer passed away and the band couldn't continue. Ian's performance at the Royal Albert Hall in Deep Purples Concerto is another AMAZING performance , as well as his singing with Luciano Pavarotti . He was probably the most versatile Rock singer ever . Long Sing you Ian Gillan .
Dear Kevin. I appreciated very much your message. I have been a huge fan of Ian, for many many years now. I agree, he never knew exactly what to do with his fantastic voice and the worst of all, he lost part of it because of his bad behaviour, since the end of the 70's. In my opinion, he never took care of his voice, he never worked on it and he pushed too hard on it. Yes he his a hero, a true rocker. But beeing a rocker doesn't mean you don't have to work on your voice, to be careful on it. Ray Fenwick, who worked with him during those post deep purple years sessions, told "he'd make a great rock'n'roll singer, going down the Tom Jones route". I agree. Those recordings prove it. You talked about this other great singer (who must not be named). I'll admit that this singer was also a great rocker, but he still have more or less the same voice today. He took care of his voice. Ian can't sing anymore like he used to. Not to mention the high notes of Child in Time. In these 1974 recordings, his voice is simply perfect. Not far from what he did during the early seventies with deep purple and also Jesus Christ Superstar. Maybe it was his vocal route? I can't imagine where he'd be if he had ridden this route further. Of course, what he did during the 80's with Gillan (the band) is fantastic. Totaly underrated. Maybe the best post deep purple solo band. I love all the albums. Still my favourites. But he ruined his fantastic voice beacause of his bad behaviour during those years. He pushed too hard on it (the Sabbath year is so black for his voice!!!), Often drunk, always smoking. But that's his life. And he is still there. Still alive. Still singing. Still my hero. I have an infinite respect for him (even with what I wrote). But I'm sure that if he had had a better understanding of his vocal potential, he could be concidered as one of the greatest singer of all time, as people say about this other famous singer....

Sorry. I do not have the lyrics of this song. You know, I'm French. It is not easy for me. But I have the impression that in the end of this verse, he says: the former life is higher. On the CD "Cherkazoo", only the second and third verses are handwritten. I did not find anything on the internet.
I think I'll go to Mars, it may suit me if the form of life is higher.
@@CB-xr1eg Damn, I knew I was hearing Mars but I kept thinking of "suit" as a noun and nothing was making sense. Thanks so much Clive, you saved part of my sanity!
When he could not perform Child in time on the stage, his peak had gone then. Made in Japan is still my old favourite.
And let's ask all the singers to sing Child In Time and whoever can't perform this song perfectly, we'll throw rotten tomatoes and kick him off the stage. 😆
@@ninoorjon But first they have to do a 2 hour DP set, sometimes twice a day for , oh 3 or 4 years and then lets see how they pull it off. No one screamed like Ian! And in 50 years, I've only found one guy that did CiT decently - ( quite well actually ). But he also didn't do the first part of my comment :-) so......maybe he had one good performance, and I saw it ?? If I can find it here, I'll try to post.
I think vocally and texture wise Ian Gillan is better after Made In Japan.
Especially in 1974-1983.
Is his voice slightly speeded up here or tweeked?
It seems to be Cherkazoo Album isn't it ??
In fact it's the second part of Cherkazoo
Yes! The songs were officialy published for the first time there. Cherkazoo is one of the 5 albums that any fan of Ian Gillan must take with him on a desert island.
@@Fifipurple You are absolutly right 😊
see what IAN meant, about the frustrations with purple.... ....definitely another string to his bow....he should have persevered with this and knocked out the finish album....
missing link between purple and his clear air turbulence jazz period....
difficult to believe that is ian gillan
something wrong with the pitch. Too high too fast.
Yes that's true. I hope you will forgive me. When I first uploaded this compilation, UA-cam rejected it for copyright abuse. I read somewhere that if I switch up the speed a litle bit, the youtube computer won't recognize the music. So I did it. UA-cam rejected the music again. I sent a message to youtube and the last version came back. But it was the fast version...
😳Какой-то недоCherkazoo...
👍енивей😊
Vraiment Ian Gillan ? :(
Oui pourquoi ?
@@colonelparcoeur Pour Kwa?
Vous en doutez?
Clear air turbulence
What's wrong with the playing speed?. It's playing to fast. Doesn't sound right.
When I first posted this video, UA-cam refused it for copyright issues. I read on a forum that the video had to be speeded up very slightly. So I changed the speed and posted the video again. Despite everything, it was still refused. So I sent a complaint and it was no longer refused. But I didn't re-post the original version. Sorry...
@@Fifipurple OK, I understand now. Thanks!. 👍🏻
@@Fifipurple THANK YOU< THANK YOU! The 1st song I'm thinking it's sped up. Now I understand. I'll go slow it down myself. This is a true TREASURE Fifipurple! A true gift. THANKS A MILLION!!!!
