  • UPDATE I recommend this skid plate! I was quick to judge as I am used to heavier material. I have since used this product on a few off road rally events and it stands up just fine 👍👍
    KTM did good.. light weight , stylish and it protects just fine 👍👍

      Hell matey! Cheers. It does seem that way. I am passionate about my bike and is my main hobby. So if others can join in and take something from it then that makes it extra special to me I think. I am new to public youtube posting and have always been a consumer of others videos. It is a nice change to give something back.
      And a little shock turn of events..... I am getting my old faithful Triumph tiger 800XC back off my friend. Am looking forward to having that back and next to the new big brother!
      Cheers again!

    The reason the bolt is missing is because this kit is for replacing the skid plate on an Adventure R. It already has the bolt on the bike to start with hence it's not included in the kit. Official specs are M8 T40 X 30mm. Yes mine was missing too...

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Рік тому +1

      Hello mate. Yeah does make sense for sure. However if it is sold as an "accessory" under the power parts configurator for the 1290 SAS the it should come with everything. Or at least state additional parts needed when ordering this for the SAS. No big deal ( I have load of old bolts around the workshop to use instead)
      Cheers again!

    Hey Ricardo, that bolt that is supposed to be for the rear bracket. It is still missing from the kit. I thought they missed it in the packaging, but I think it is intentionally missing. so I had to order that bolt/screw out of the SAR parts fiche. It's kind of annoying not to include that bolt in the kit.

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Рік тому +1

      Correct it’s a R plate . The bike already has the bolt. You need order separately if used on S 👍

    Your videos are becoming my go to bible.... :) I have no intention of taking my bike any further off gravel than I need to!! so upgrading the bash plate to the adventure R in my opinion is a great option and still looks nice and not to heavy and chunky..

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  3 роки тому

      Hello Paul! Thanks for the comment mate :) . I completely agree about the bash plate. It will be fine for probably 90% of what folkes ae going to throw at it. It does look amazing to be fair and suits the bike (as it should be given it was designed for it). My main gripe is £250 for something that felt far inferior to my triumph bash plate. I shouldnt be able to flex the thing in my opinion. It should be solid. I will at some point green lane mine (being careful of the cast rims) so no doubt wll bottom the plate out on some raised roots or gullys. I know this wont cut the mustard as they say. (unfortunately I am no Chris Birch and wheelie over stuff haha)

      Hey up mate! Yes I a too to be honest. Although I am hearing from Rob Greaves comment he did a rally on his 1290SAR and stood up to some pretty good beating. Few dents though but kept bike safe. So does the trick (Albeit not a solid as other bash plates for that price that I have owned before). Its probably still enough for most SAS riders to be fair. And yes I gotta say looks wide its a big thumbs up! :)

    Hi Ric! Did you already find a suitable aftermarket skid plate? "Motorradical A080330 - Bash Plate" could be an idea but it seems not to be shipped outside of South Africa. What a pity- I like this black powdered style. Seems we are to wait for other solutions. Congratulations on your intersting and always very helpfull channel! Season's greetings, Michael

      Hello Micha! Thanks for the message. Hope your well too.
      I haven’t looked at another skid plate yet as I have kind of grown to like the oem plate. And seems to do the job. I’m no planning on sliding over logs haha so this will be fine for stones flicked up.
      Also I am aware SW Motech should be releasing something in early January so I hear. Maybe wait and see what it’s like. Along with their upper bars.
      As for liking black colour instead of sliver. I am collecting my pannier mounts tomorrow as I have had them powder coated Matt black. I’ll stick a vid up soon on how they look. Not expensive at all but should look more in style with the bike. 👍
      Cheers and merry Christmas 🎅

    Hi Ricardo - whilst I agree with you that the 'R' version is a little flimsy they do stand up well to abuse - I did a road book rally on my R a few weeks ago and it fended off all manner of rocks and knocks on the gravel roads and technical sections which are far more than any owner of the 'S' version will put their bikes through. I upgraded the very similar one on my 790R to the plastic AXP one which in my view is better than any aluminium one as it is both lighter but more importantly slides over any rocks etc. The AXP one does come with some pretty substantial brackets to spread the load far better than the original though.

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  3 роки тому

      Hi Rob! Great to hear from you and the feedback on the skid plate! I agree with you most S owners will just use it on the road to be honest. And a few will venture on to gravel or dust tracks which this will definitley on the face of it be great for. However I am surprised to hear your experience and real life test on the Rally showing that indeed it stood up to some heavy beating. I am only basing it on my experience and how well built the Triumph bash plates were on previous bikes. I could literall land on rocks and exposed roots/ruts etc and come back with only scratches. Or on a few occassions have to replace the rubber shock absorver bungs that sat between it and the bike. I could not flaex that thing even in a vice with a hammer.
      Also thanks for the infor on the APX skid plate - So far I dont think there will be a 2021 1290 version any time soon from what I see? Unless you know more?
      Cheera again for that!

    Thanks for sharing. I don't know what other video I saw, but I think I was already aware that the pan was a bit flimsy.. infact I think was one of your vids where you commented on how light the box was with the skid plate in it..
    Random note.. I am in two minds about the SAS and SAR. I will be 99% on road.. therefore SAS is the choice.. but DAMN that SAR colour scheme is soo nice that I wish it had the cruise control with it... :(
    Decisions decisions..

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  3 роки тому +2

      Hey up Matt! great to hear back from you! Yeah mate that other video was mine too. I couldnt believe how light the box was with the skid plate haha!! And the proof was found in the pudding as they say. It looks really nice and probably more than adequate for 90% of what going to be thrown at it to be fair. My issue is I feel robbed of £250 for something I can call a bacofoil tray. My Tiger one was solid as a rock.. i expected the same or better.
      As for the SAR v SAS decision. I am with you on that! I love that SAR colour scheme! I even have already considered a custome job on my bike at some point. Not to the SAR scheme but I love the white as part of the colour co-ordination. Anyway shall see. But yeah too many sacrifices having the SAR unless its just a 100% off road machine toy. Plus you pay more for the bike with less on it (and the stuff missing you will use trust me!).
      As you say decisions lol... not a bad place to be though to be fair :)

      Re-bonjour mon ami ! Ravi de te l'entendre dire! oui, la plaque de protection est fantastique et sera bonne contre les pierres et la lumière hors route. Il n'est pas trop lourd et facile à réparer. Bien que je pense trop d'argent pour sa force. Je m'attendais à une assiette plus solide. Mais oui il y a une longue attente partout pas seulement en France. J'attends encore quelques petites choses d'avril ! haha. Merci encore pour vos retours ! apprécié.

    G’day Ric , thanks for your video . For the tyres on your bike or the S model. More than suitable, any other hard riding buy the R . Everyone complains about weight , then adds more weight to their bikes . look at GS bikes. The s for me is all round comfortable touring bike . People get confused by the word adventure . Hard core adventure bikes don’t have electronic suspension. You just need things that just work . Anyway enjoying my new s and have my 950se for hard off-road riding. Cheers Jack

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  3 роки тому

      Hey there Jack! good to hear from you mate. I hear you fully and agree in most parts. I am used to the old "this is a road bike" and "This is a off-road bike" disussion as I owned two 800XC/XCA which have the long travel suspension, taller, spoked rims, bash plates etc all as standard. And the 800 "Roadies" were aimed more so at road given their standard equipment (but didnt stop them doing it but came at either a cost or more effort and risk). So completely agree there is a road bias on the 1290 SAS.
      Maybe its just me being more open minded than some or more care free with risk of damage. I am mostly a 1 bike guy (Although WOW I am gettin my old 110,000 miler XC back off my mate shortly). I like to get as much use out of my toy in all aspects. So will green lane my 1290 at some point. I will ride within my limits and pay the price when I fall outside of these lol.... But I say "adventure" is in your spirit and mind set. If I could only afford a CB500 I would still stick knobbys on and go for a bit of fun in the dirt.
      The SAR loses out on too much for me and also far too tall. The SAS is just about on the limit height wise. But comes with a lot of extra settings I will use. I have no problem with weight. This bike weighs not much diff to the 800XC and I know how much you suffer hauling that up and around gnarly terrain.
      KTM Sell spoked rims for the SAS which I might get. As they know these will also be hitting the dirt (just not Chris Birch stylie and traversing fallen trees). But defintely I agree the SAS is not a hardcore adventure bike. Suspension/Radar and Rim are its differing crucial components. The SAS will do it but your kinda rolling the dice as to whether you end up paying £$£$£ to get stuff fixed. Just means keep away from the nasty Tech stuff I think!
      Cheers again! A
      Ric

    I was looking at one but I think I'll wait for an aftermarket one. I agree it's not like the Tiger 800xc one. I had the same as you. I just finished fitting my panniers. They are pretty good. Feel pretty sturdy. Rack was a bit fiddly. But got there in the end. I cut those plastic shrowd things to blank off the holes same as you. Quite handy they were pre marked on the inside so took a grinder to them. Pretty happy with the set up ready to go now 😎

I am pleased with them anyway. And yup coutting the shrouds is the way to go regardless of how they appear on the KTM website (No shrouds). Sounds like your now happy as Larry and ready to rock !! haha. BUT I am definitely going to wait a while and see what comes out regarding skid plates! And make a barbeque outta this one I think. lol

    Bonjour,

      Thanks mate yeah was well overdue due to delivery issues like everyone :( Anyway all ok now. But agree I would go for a harder one personally but I gotta give it 10 out of 10 for styling and looks. Also to be fair a fellow guys on here said he did a rally one and stood up well with some pretty gnarly rock landings. Only a dent or two but held up well. So for most this will be fine. I am just used to the tiger and theirs was solid.
      Take care

      To be fair its actually not bad at all after having used on the two day rally. i did come away with couple small dents in it but has definitely done its job and is not heavy in the slightest. Its very very light and suits the styling of the bike.

      Yeah I found out that this is a part for an R so because of this it’s classed as replaced part. The R already has the bolt (reusable). If you own an S then you will need to order the bolt separately… a right PIA 😡

    Hi Ric. I just received mine and the same bolt is missing. Did you received the missing bolt from KTM? Considering how long it takes KTM to deliver any parts, can you tell me what is the size of the bolt so I can try to source it from somewhere else? Thanks

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  2 роки тому +2

      Hiya Stefan! No I never received any missing bolt. It’s not the first I’ve heard of it too. Not sure why it’s not in the pack.
      Anyway I didn’t go and buy one from KTM. I just used a spare bolt from my barkbusters unused spacers packet. It is an M8x45mm and seems to work just fine in securing it (I assume we talk about same bolt near the rear shock?)

    Mmmmmmm ... Para que cambiar cubre Carter en una moto asfáltica ?

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  3 роки тому

      Hola mi amigo. Gracias por tu comentario. Estoy completamente de acuerdo hasta cierto punto. Sin embargo, no es del todo una bicicleta de asfalto. Las únicas partes principales que afectan la durabilidad todoterreno que difieren entre el SAS y el SAR son la suspensión de largo recorrido y las llantas Spoked desde un aspecto puramente físico. Obviamente resulta en una mejor distancia al suelo. Sacar el SAS fuera de la carretera solo significa que corre más riesgo de costos financieros si las cosas salen mal, y posiblemente más desafiante en el terreno más difícil. Tengo el carril verde en el Reino Unido, por lo que usaré mi SAS fuera de la carretera. Pero no hago lo suficiente para justificar la compra del SAR.
      También creo que al comprarme el SAR perdería muchas de las funciones tecnológicas que usaría mucho.
      JAJA, y para ser honesto, puedes llevar cualquier bicicleta todoterreno como una Harley si eres lo suficientemente bueno. :)
      ¡Gracias otra vez por el comentario! pregunta muy válida!
      Salud
      Ric

      Hello mate! yes by about 6 inches. The bend of the exhuast pipe is still exposed so dont think you can just drag yourself over a log on this one lol... To be fair the skid plate would probably be crushed :/ Its not the best quality. Its basically a slightly longer prettier version of the plastic one. Any respecting SAR owner will be ripping this straight off their bike for a robust one I think.

      Hello Rafal thanks for the comment mate! And confirming your on the same line of thought. To be fair visually I think it looks great and suits the bike without adding too much weight. But definitely I was a little surprised what I received given the price. More than adequate for most riders particularly SAS owners wanting to add a skid plate. But I think KTM know a lot of hardcore riders is going to change it on their SAR at some point. 👍

      Hmm va bene. Dovrebbero funzionare in quanto sono esattamente gli stessi. Tuttavia devo dire che ho dovuto sbattere le scatole nel telaio con un po' di forza per farle scattare. Ma devi assicurarti che i ganci siano nella posizione aperta corretta prima di sbatterli. Devo dire che una volta ho quasi lasciato cadere anche una scatola. Quando non era acceso correttamente. Assicurati sempre che la chiave sia bloccata prima di rilasciare la scatola per sicurezza.
      Quando giri la chiave per chiudere. Dovresti sentirlo sicuro. Quindi prova a tirare fuori la scatola. Saprai quindi se solido e sicuro.
      Inoltre devo applicare una discreta pressione alla chiave verso l'interno quando si gira la chiave per bloccarla
