12:20 the main thing with more links(6 bar...) is to be able to tune kinematic parameters more individual (think of an direct driven single pivot the anti squat, anti rise, leverage curve, and wheels path are all interfering with each other. By adding complexity(often in form of linkages you can adjust those parameters independently from each other(to a certain degree) for example go to a linkgae drive single pivot and you get to modify youre leverage curve. then you can go to a horstlink/split pivot or floating brake and you can tune youre anti rise............ thats how it goes )
Absolutely, but if you’re going to hide the shock inside the frame, then you’re going to be constrained in what you can achieve a lot more than you would otherwise.
That sure is a Bold design choice Scott and form over function might work for those who drop their bike off at the LBS to have a new tire, grips and rear brake pads installed, but for the rest of us it's a great big hell NO.
Pivot is just not seeing the advantages of a steep seattube angle. Kinematically, you sure can slacken the headtube if you commit to the seattube angle. Will say though, that the day before the new Switchblade release, I saw a dark blue Pivot simply crushing Pivot's local uphill leg/lung crusher trail in Phoenix. To each their own.
The new ransom is nearly 2kg heavier? what a surprise, modern bikes are getting porky, and stop making excuses for it, there's no way a tube and a tool adds nearly 2kg to the bike, at best half a kg, and just because other manufacturers are doing it doesn't make it ok, I mean its only half a kg lighter than the focus ebike, how on earth does that make any sense?
It’s a good point, and yes a tube and tool doesn’t account for the difference. The reason bikes have been getting heavier is mostly down to strength and durability. Arguably the only sub-13kg Enduro bikes were too light for smashing out alpine laps over multiple seasons.
@@MBRmagazine Sure durability will suffer if you go too light, but around the 14kg mark isn't too light, I used to have a 2017 trek slash 9.8 that I brought used, it weighed bang on 14kg with pedals, no durability problems, and I currently own a 2019 norco fluid fs1 that I've got down to 13.75kg with pedals, no durability problems despite it being a short travel bike and frequently riding double blacks at bike parks in NZ for almost 4 years now, plus there's no way an enduro or trail bike should weigh almost the same as an ebike.
The Scott weighs a similar amount to several other current Enduro bikes we’ve tested. A Nukeproof Giga weighs 15.4kg, a Forbidden Dreadnought is 15.99kg, the Atherton AM. 170 is 16.4kg so it’s not just the Ransom.
@@MBRmagazine I know, many manufacturers are doing it, but that doesn't make it ok, my brothers 2021 trek slash 7 weighs almost the same as a gen 6 trek slash 9.8, which is literally twice the price, all the more reason not to upgrade.
Previous Generation ran bushings instead of bearings. The frame weighs less than virtually every trail bike on the market. It was like a 5.5 pound frame with a 205x65mm DPX2. Nothing compares or even competes.

Yes very nice dudes. Another great review.
The Scott will be my Bike Park Wales uplift bike
Nice one gents! I always enjoy your discussions about new tech. The linkage course sounds interesting. Please share info on where to find the course.
Thanks! Will try and find out for you 👍
@@MBRmagazine Thank you!
Never been to coed y brenin.. Better make a trip ASAP.. Headset routing on bikes is a massive no for me. Love these vids tho.. Top work guys 👍🏻👍🏻
How do I get the Scott ransom

That new Ransom is just overcomplicated. Just simple checks and maintenance is going to be a pain.
Headset cable routing 👎
Good luck bike industry.

100k visitors and they cant make it work?
Yeah, seems odd.
Ahh more carbon crap and it saves nothing in weight by the look of it 😢
