    You would have been A LOT better off buying something like a WR250R, DRZ400, KLX300, etc. Rider modes and switchable abs are not the reasons you were struggling off road. You were struggling because you're on a big/heavy bike as a new rider. You'd have WAY more fun on a smaller and lighter bike. Good luck with the KTM but I suspect it will be for sale in the future (or in the shop since it's a KTM 😂).

    • @JasonRidesmoto
      @JasonRidesmoto  День тому +1

      Yes I mentioned in the video it was a heavy big bike and that I was a newer rider! The KTM is lighter and carries its weight down low and also has the added features of rider modes! I will have a Dual Sport someday! All the dirt rides are 2 hours or more away from me... The KTM will be my daily driver that can also help me get into trouble off road!

    You know you're an old school biker when the fewer modes, sensors and electronics on the machine are a positive not a negative. Never needed or wanted abs and still don't. Give me good, simple engineering every time and you can keep your tft's and sensors thanks. As for all that plastic that they shroud modern 'adventure' bikes in...makes some of them look like a partially squished praying mantis. Give me a good simple medium sized roadster with maybe upgraded shocks and a set of trail tyres and I'll go places that a lot of the larger 'adventure' bikes couldn't even think about handling. Good luck with the new machine; hope you have many happy miles and adventures.

      Thanks God someone thinks like me. I have a gen 1 V Strom. I love it and it takes me everywhere. I love watching videos of off road riding courses - you see all these fossils on their GS's or big KTMs, all tricked up with everything - ABS, traction, 16 modes of suspension, engine mapping etc etc. Yet you watch them ride and they mostly couldn't ride a stick up a dog's arse. There's nowhere they will go on their tricked up electric bike where I won't be right behind them, or most likely in front of them, on my old V Strom. I posted something like this somewhere else and a guy came back and said I'm way wrong - get all the tricks on the bike and it will ride itself. What a zipperhead. If he thinks all those extras makes a better rider he's delusional. No electronic crap and you become the master - your skills improve .

      @@tomdennis1474 100 percent; couldn't agree more. My last serious off roader was a Maico 490. It had a 'f£ck you' bitch of a two stroke bolted into some steel with a few add on bits to help you to try and stay with the bike. It even had some things that they called brakes which to be fair, did slow you down a bit if you worked them hard enough. Best bike ever. I've done all my biking in South Africa and the last thing you need when you are miles away from anything is a complicated electronic gubbins. That's the sort of thing that gets you in trouble when it throws a fit over a drop of water or dust. With my Maico and a basic tool kit, I'd at least have a good chance to get it running again. My motto; 'Keep it simple stupid!' All the best bud.

    As an owner of the 450MT (450 Ibex in USA) you're completely right. The 800 wasn't really tailored for technical trails and heavy offroad use. CFMOTO has rolled out the 800MTX recently, which is more a direct competitor to KTM's 790ADV lineup, with the dropping tank fuel-thingeys.
    As a cost-effective alternative, and if you don't want to wait for the 800MTX, maybe opt for the KOVE 800XPro or Rally, it's much more of an Offroad animal, but I can't say anything about how good they are in the long run. Or maybe you may want to downside as well, I own the 450MT and it's fantastic!

      KTM 790/890 Adventure is 470ish pounds. RE is not much lighter. It's how the KTM carries its weight with the side pod fuel tanks, if doesn't feel like a heavy bike. Easier to pick up and the Rally Mode Traction control is on another level. Very hard to have this bike get out of control. I'll let you know how the BDRX Big Bend goes next month. With the current situation that KTM are in right now, I’m amazed anyone would buy into their brand. Parts are scarce as it is, but if they go out of business altogether, there’ll be no official spare parts available. And if you’re unlucky enough to have a 790 with the camshaft issue, they might not be around to service a warranty claim.

    Congrats on the 790! I've been riding since 1994, other than two years with a few rides on a KLR650, all of my riding has been on small dual sport bikes: Two DR350s, a DRZ-400S, and two KTMs mixed in while I've owned the DR-Z. I owned the KLR during the time I owned the DR-Z too.
    I got sucked in to the Adventure bike thing again in late 2021 and bought a T7 in early 2022.

  • @JagLite
    @JagLite 6 годин тому

    Good balanced video. Most of the big adv bikes are way too top heavy. The BMW GS horizontal twins and the KTM 790/890 are the exceptions. The GS because the motor cg is lower and the KTM because the fuel tanks are lower. When I first saw the KTM 790 with the low saddle tanks up front where we need the weight I thought it would be a game changer and that soon every mfg would follow them but so far none of the other bikes have it.
    The low tanks add foot protection and engine protection as well as getting the weight lower. Yes, the tanks need seriously strong protection from falling on rocks, but so does the engine on our bikes. A strong slide plate and side case protection is required for off pavement riding so why not design the tanks to be part of the protection? The KTM 790/890 are still too heavy and expensive for me but the saddle tank design should trickle down to the smaller, lighter, and less expensive bikes... eventually.

    "Ride me hard please".... rides the bike through a puddle haha jokes aside; you're a beginner off-road rider, anything over a 500cc is going to be too heavy or have too much low end torque for you. Why so many new ADV riders make this mistake is beyond me, there is far too much ego in the motorcycle enthusiast world labelling below 700cc bikes as "small". Nothing can be further from the truth. Get a 450MT or a Himalayan 450 since you obviously have to do long commutes to get to the trails. You'll be right at home, those are great beginner bikes that are even a solid option for experienced riders who want something more nimble. They can handle long highway rides and they will be much more forgiving once you're off the road. Once you're ready, get a Kove 450 or a Kove 800X.

      @@JasonRidesmoto Lack of comfort even on dual sport bikes is exaggerated. It's not all that bad as long as you don't wear super aggressive knobbies.
      I own 800x and it's a solid mile muncher, I don't own a car and ride it daily, so that has to mean something. The throttle is a bit rough, but from 2024 they have ride-by-wire, that was addressed. No fancy electronics compared to 790, but I don't see much point in anything beyond ABS. Still quite fun and easy both on and off-road.

      The T7 also has the same problem he complains in the video. It's very, very top heavy!!! Definitely not a bike for someone beginning offroad ride.
