I love how you answered each and every one of my questions on diy paint finishes for furniture pieces. I am looking forward to visiting some more of your informative and creative videos on your channel.🙋♀️♡
This was super helpful for a newbie! Most videos I’ve watched focused on chalk paint, but I’ve been leaning towards latex. I think I’m ready to tackle my first project!
@@RenovatedFaith Thank you sooo much!!! Just the information I was looking for. You made it so easy for me. I was so confused with all the chalk paint and milk paint info. Thanks for sharing.
Pro classic is a water-based oil paint. These paints harden like an oil with the convenience of water clean-up. I use Benjamin Moore's ADVANCE. I used to be a sign painter and always used oil based paints for longevity. Paint leveling is essential. Water-based Oils are the way to go.
I have been wondering the differences for a while now. Thank you so much for your video and all your research! You are super cute! I will be watching more of your videos soon!
Girl, I totally get it. I'll be redoing my own cabinets and of course over-analyzing the process! I'll be sure to put my findings in a detailed post so others don't have to over-analyze like I do. :)
I LOVE love love Sherwin Williams paint and the ProClassic is one of my faves! I like most of their paints to be honest, though, some more than others. Anyway, I agree with you on the ProClassic. It’s great stuff in my humble opinion! As for chalk paint, I haven’t used it in such a long time. I didn’t have good luck with it several years ago and so I haven’t even try it again. I used Annie Sloan and the other brand I can’t recall but I felt neither of them went on smoothly enough for my liking. Then again, that was back when I hadn’t painted near as much as I have now. I would possibly like it better these days since I’m a little more experienced. Still not a professional;) I have been sincerely considering taking a chance on it again. Is Annie Sloan your favorite chalk paint? I just find myself always buying a latex flat, matte or satin paint and I simply haven’t wanted to spend gobs of money on chalk paint again in case I still don’t like it. I’m trying to decide right now on what I want to use for this antique dresser that was my grandmothers. I don’t want to mess it up so I don’t think I’ll risk using the chalk on it. Ugh. Decisions decisions. Lol Thanks for the video.
I'm not a huge fan of chalk paint for some of the reasons in post below so I usually just go with flat or satin latex. Thanks so much for your great input! renovatedfaith.com/why-i-dont-use-chalk-paint-on-furniture-my-better-alternative/
Thank you soooooo much!!! I've been watching video after video trying to figure out what I want to use on some furniture and cabinets and this was the most helpful video I've found. Are there any special brushes you use with the ProClassic? Also, would you recommend some sort of top coat with the Proclassic for cabinets?
Hey! I'm about to do a post on painting cabinets in my large kitchen (I wish it wasn't large bc I don't love cooking). I plan on painting on sanding, painting on Zinsser Cover Stain Primer, sanding lightly, then doing a couple coats (or however many are needed) of ProClassic. You couldn't need a topcoat as ProClassic is super durable. Also, this post shows you my favorite brushes: renovatedfaith.com/vintage-vanity-makeover/ Let me know if you have any questions! Also, your comment made my day! - Karin
I’ve been researching like a crazy person about various kinds of paint and I’m beyond confused about latex, acrylic and chalk paint. Then there’s acrylic latex
Can you please explain latex vs. Acrylic vs. Acrylic latex...I am so confused lol I need one of those shirts, I definitely over think everything and then confuse myself
This is such a great question. So hopefully I don't muddy the water but lots of people use these terms inter-changeably. All three terms 90% of the time refer to the water-based latex paint you find at home improvement stores. When some people say acrylic when it comes to crafts, they mean those little bottles. But most latex paint can also be called "acrylic latex" even when different components are used for the acrylic ingredients.
What do u think about always using a kilz primer? What brush brand and roller do u like for furniture painting? I am going to try your sherwin williams with the top coat stuff.
Hi, this was very helpful. I'm about to repaint my dinning table and chairs and not sure where to start. The furniture is laminate. Should I light sand it first? Prime. Then use laminate I'm thinking. Any advice on redoing laminate would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Terrye! You can absolutely paint laminate furniture. In this post, I share all my best tips. Let me know if you have any questions: renovatedfaith.com/how-to-paint-ikea-furniture/
Hi Karen, I'm new to your channel and your blog. I want to tackle a small armoire cabinet for our guest bedroom. Being my first furniture renovation, chalk paint seemed like the easiest option. However, after considering the information you have shared, I will try the SW Pro Classic Latex paint. I have read many reviews on the SW website regarding the Pro Classic paint and people have had issues with running/slumping on vertical surfaces. Have you had this issue? Thank you for your insight!
I've seen the same reviews and talked to my paint guy. He said he hasn't seen any of those options but supposedly it doesn't touch up as well. Still my top choice though!
Hey Keila, All the details are in the post and you get the paint at Sherwin Williams. It will show you more information about the cost there. Thanks for your comment!
@@jessicalangstang2633 I would go with the Sherwin Williams Pure White or Behr Marquee Pure White at Home Depot. Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks Jessia.
If I paint something with milk paint can I paint over it with latex paint? Trying to decide what to do on a stone fire place and we were thinking of starting with milk paint, but if we don’t like it we’d want to go with latex. Is this possible? Thanks!!
You guys must show the texture up close, as close as possible, grab that camera and move it over your painted pieces please, 3rd video and I can't tell what to expect from the milk texture without opening the can and painting it myself.
Practice, prior to your presentation! Utilize a poster board (off camera) with bullet points to stay on track. You were all over the board ( pardon the pun)! I didn’t get much out of the 12 & 1/2 minuets. Remember to breathe, you seem anxious and quite flustered. GOOD LUCK next time! 🤗
BS17 I was only trying to help her become more comfortable when creating future UA-cam presentations. I apologize for giving her a few professional pointers to improve her performance on upcoming presentations. I wished her luck, ending with positive encouragement. I guess we have something in common, providing our opinion. Unlike you I wanted to help this lovely lady, you just want to stick your nose into others business. How does it feel to get scorned? 🤨
Thank you! I was leaning more towards latex simply because of the high color range compared to chalk. The lower price sure as hell helps to.
Absolutely!

Amy howard also has a chalky clear sealer.

so does the Sherwin Williams Pro Classic have less of a chance to yellow over time?
It will not yellow over time like some paints do. Thanks Corinne!
I am looking for the safest paint for my baby’s crib. Which do you suggest?
I suggest Behr Premium Plus Satin Interior paint because it has O VOC's!
Does the Sherwin Williams proclassic come in sheens? Flat, matte, gloss, etc or is it strictly one type of sheen?
You can select the sheen.
Hey Colleen, I like satin sheen personally.
Where do you buy the pro paint and what’s the price??
I don't remember off the top of my head but all the specifics are at this link here: renovatedfaith.com/milk-paint-vs-chalk-paint/

Did you paint your China Cabinet and if so what brand & what color is it?
I did paint my china cabinet! It is in Pure White from Behr and also the inside is Sonata Blue which is also a Behr color at Home Depot.
Thank you for responding back. You did a beautiful job on it 💙💪
Karin Peters It’s very pretty!
What do you paint that cupboard in the back that white colour
That is actually Behr Pure White and the inside is Behr Sonata. Thanks Jessica!
Thankyou so much... Can you suggest me what paint is best for a bed frame. I want a white colour bed.

I couldn't agree more. Thank you Dawn!

Yes, it shouldn't be a problem to go over milk paint with latex paint on a stone fireplace.
