Comment on the guy doing these videos. Well Done. You are well prepared. You explain things well. I have used Workflowy since? maybe 2010? But these updates have got me coming back strong to daily use. And these videos are helping me greatly.
I have been a long time Workflowy Pro user/subscriber and I am grateful for all the recent developments and features. This video on backlinks and mirrors is a game changer. Looking forward to implementing this into my workflowy system.
Something I've found very cool with the backlink implementation in WF is that you can actually move the backlink bullets. This means that I can for instance create backlinks for todo items inside my daily journal, and it can pop up inside a todo section in my workflow/kanban board, and let me freely drag them around there.
@@MichaelAye Let's say you have a bullet called "Test". Now, in another bullet somewhere else you create a backlink "some text [[Test]]" When you now go the the "Test" bullet, there will be a reference inside it to where you wrote "some text [[Test]]", and this reference is movable. It's a bullet on its own. With this in mind, you can reference your todo-list or kanban board or whatever, from anywhere, and you'll have automatically created a reference bullet there that you can move through the board and then complete. Was that clearer? It's a bit hard to explain in words maybe...
Thanks! With backlinks Workflowy more resembles a wiki. Full wiki functionality like creating new links/nodes while working in a workflowy node would be a dream come true. As it stands, things are still excellent!
This is a great summary. I wonder how you would consider Backlinks vs Tags. I've been using tags to organize subjects, but now I'm thinking about switching over to backlinks, and use tags only for operations I want to perform, like #todo
Excelente explicación, especialmente para quienes - como el suscrito - utilizamos Workflowy para gestión de proyectos y tareas, como también para minutas e informes en que las referencias se hacen más fuertes con los backlinks
13:59 Is incorrect. "They both go back to becoming regular _mirrors_ ". He meant nodes, not mirrors IINM. Great video and examples by the way. Both mirrors and backlinks are super useful.
#gamechanger -- I knew about mirrors, but didn't know backlinks. Holy crap this will change the way I use workflowy! Especially the idea of the CRM. #thank you #prouser
Praise: workflowy has come a long way since I last used it circa 2017; good job. Criticism: no need to reinvent the wheel, linguistically speaking. CS has long had a name already in use for what you're calling *mirroring*; its *transclusion*. If you called it what it's already been called instead of muddying the domain's "ubiquitous language" (or, I guess, technically, forking a new ubiquitous language just for workflowy) with a new term for the same idea, users would be better able to search the underlying notion of the feature and understand, from existing resources about transclusion, how it could me leveraged.
I think mirrors is a good term to use because it is easy to understand for most folks. Transclusion is also helpful fo r others with more knowledge and experience.
I only partially agree. I'm pretty sure that part of naming it "mirrors" is to make it much more accessible to the "common folks". Mirrors are a much more intuitive and descriptive term and immediately gives an association with something that people are already familiar with to make it easy to remember. "Transclusion" on the other hand is more technical/academical. The whole concept of WF is "simplicity", and I like that they're taking that design idea and applying it even to the language they use to make things as accessible as possible.
Love the features. Wouldn't it make sense to have the backlink part be a bullet, instead of a section below the bullets? If the backlink section would be an automatically generated bullet, you can treat it as a bullet. For example to move it to the top of a list for easy access when the list is very long. The user can choose. Thanks
The only feature that Workflowy lacks is the reference to unlinked bullets... a kind of automatic search and in the same interface, like RoamResearch...
Can we please have backlinks for "@" as well? This will be so cool. Currently, I sue @ for all names (people, places, companies, etc). If I could get backlinks for @ as well, this will enhance my current academic process.
I think there are plans to implement search nodes, which would accomplish a similar thing! In the meantime, you can actually link a tag, if you’d like. So you could have a node for Sam called @Sam, then when you use that tag later, use [[@Sam]] rather than just the tag. It can get a little confusing working with tags that are also links, but it might work for your system
Following up on somebody else's comment I wonder whether by default you could create tags as links. So every time I create a tag it is a link too. Maybe it's kind of an edge case, I don't know.
Hi! Just came across Workflowy! It is an awesome app and I wanted to go for pro. But my primary device is an ipad pro and the app does seem patchy unlike the web version( shortcuts dont work etc). Just wanted to ask when the next update is scheduled for so that i can take the decision
Hi S S, if there's a particular issue or issues you're having with Workflowy on the iPad, you can report it to our team at help@workflowy.com so we can better understand and fix it.
@@workflowy Thanks. I mailed to the given address about my concerns on 05 apr but I have not yet received any response except an auto generated email. This is surprising as I have subscribed for the Pro version and your website says that emails from pro users are looked into on priority basis.
Hi Dmitry, there are currently no additional ways to filter backlink items. If you would like to request a specific way to filter these, we have a forum where you can explain what you're looking for. workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200179635-Feature-Requests
Hi Andreas, the feature has not been removed. Please reach out to help@workflowy.com so our support team can troubleshoot the activation process with you!
Currently, you can mirror and backlink to different items that have the exact same name. So you could use something else like the location of those to keep those items straight. Like Address book > John Adams vs Close friends > John Adams. That way you know which one you're trying to link to or mirror.

sounds intriguing but i can't follow what you mean exactly. Can you make a screencast maybe? Or explain in other words?

@@Ermude10 yes, having seen that list of back-references in the video, i now know what you meant, thanks! And cool indeed!
This was a very helpful insight.
There are many tools around, but they try to do too much and just get overwhelming.
WF has the perfect balance.

transclusion would confuse most users
mirror is an intuitive term

@@alejandroleiva50 interesting. I will give it a shot
Interesting. I was thinking around the same thing. Back links seem a cleaner way than just @ tags. But if they go together that would be awesome.

So a backlink is just a hyperlink to another bullet
Whereas a mirror copies a bullet and anything typed in one is shared in another
Correct.
What about filters of backlinks which will be more easier to find a relevant information?

Ngl, I just klicked to give a like.
Wouldn't backlinks need to have unique constraints as to distinguish items, such as separating John Adams from John Q. Adams.
