This song won the Oscar in 1981 for Best Original Song from a movie. The original Arthur movie is SO much better than the remake -- it's very funny! If you like 80s movies you should check it out! Get Better, Christopher Cross!
There is literally no comparing the original to the remake. The remake is so bad that it is one of those things that should not be talked about. Think the Bewitched movie or the movie that came after the 3rd Indiana Jones movie.
This song is a retailer's best friend. Smooth, and played over the sound system, it encourages shoppers to linger at least until the song is over, possibly buying more.
Gawd I LOVE this song!!! This is my favorite of his. Not only is it incredibly romantic, but you feel like you're in the middle of NYC when you're listening!! Has such a lonely vibe, but he's talking about finding your center -- finding love -- in the midst of the loneliness of this populous city. It's just like L.A. or Vegas -- so many people, yet so lonely. This song describes that PERFECTLY!!! I wasn;t a huge fan of the movie "Arthur" but they couldn't have chosen a better theme song.

Christopher Cross hit the charts with a one-two punch. Five Grammy's for his first album, the single, " Sailing " earned 3 Grammy's in 1981 and charted # 1. Arthur's Theme also hit # 1 and won the Best Original Song Oscar in 1981. Cross was the first artist to have Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist. As well, his " Ride like the Wind " came from the first album.

When I saw Chris in Newport with my friend, he thought Chris was a keyboard player. Chris proceeded to play the sax solo on guitar because they dident have a sax player that night. Our faces melted! He stopped when we yelled his name and took a picture with us. It was the best live preformance Ive ever seen.

Congratulations on the shout out from Christopher Cross. When he first started his Cross Talk site, way back in the 90s, he shouted out at me. Cool guy.
And the Academy Award for Best Song in a Motion Picture goes to "Arthur's Theme" music and lyrics by Burt Bachrach, Carole Bayer Sager, Peter Allen, and Christopher Cross. There is another great live video of Christopher singing this song with the leading man of the film 'Arthur' Dudley Moore playing the piano. Dudley was a classically trained pianist, so he plays the song beautifully and Christopher sings it amazingly well live.
I love coming back and revisit these reactions. Christopher was on a plane coming into JFK in New York and had writers block but when the plane had to circle for a delay at night he was watching a flight attendant and the words "Between the moon and New York City) and upon exit he told the attendant "you inspired me to write a song and you will know it when you hear it"... Amazing. I wonder if she ever figured out this was the song.
Been checking out your channel here and there for about a month. This vid made me smile so much. The fact that you still posted it after you figured it out and put yourself out there like that....well, it made me hit the "subscribe" button. Thanks for making my day!
🎵 "When you get caught between the moon and New York City" from the chorus, was taken from an unreleased song co-writers Peter Allen and Carole Bayer Sager had previously written together. Allen came up with the line while his plane was in a holding pattern during a night arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport! 🎵
That's Classic! Watch the movie "Arthur" from 1981 starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli. It's a funny comedy with a good story about love and Arthur having to make a choice in the predicament he finds himself in.

I did read about him catching this Covid thing and how it took a toll on him & his health, but man how cool of him to reach out to you like that just to let you know that it made him smile...really really cool of 'ole Chris to do that.Hope that he's feelin' much better right now.
Jamal please try Al Stewart, Year of the Cat. Every time it's suggested it gets a ton of likes. Theres a reason it has 66 million views in You Tube!
One of my all time favorites - the lyrics are something else.
You gotta add "Time Passages" as well. :-)
Time Passages isn't shabby either.
Yesssssssss!!!!
Hell yeah! Great suggestion 👍
Once in a life you find her...oh my god the atmosphere in this song, just heart wrenching
This is just too darn funny. Nice to have a chuckle with ya!
Congratulations on the shout out from Christopher Cross. When he first started his Cross Talk site, way back in the 90s, he shouted out at me. Cool guy.
Awesome! Love that Chris Cross gave you a shout-out! If you haven't seen the movie Arthur with Dudley Moore it's really good!
You must have really hated that moose.
This song reminds me of being a kid and flying back home to Texas from Florida. They were showing Arthur on the airplane and that song takes me back!
Thanks for reminding me that I'm old. You young people sure know how to. Lol
Don't feel bad, there's a bunch of us who can relate.
Dude pleaseeeeeeee two songs!
1. Kansas- Carry on my Wayward Son
2. Styx- Renegade
YOU HAVE TO DO REACTIONS TO THESE TWO!!!
Yes! Been requesting these too. Jamel would love them!!
It's possible those artists are blockers. So he may not be able to do them. Or he has heard them so he can't react, but only review.
3 Years Apart I’ve seen other reaction channels do it and none of them have been blocked.
And, Styx ~ "Lorelei", "Sweet Madam Blue"
Kansas ~ "Hold On", "He Knew"
Nick yessss
Written by Christopher Cross, Burt Bacharach , Carole Bayer Sager and Peter Allen all legends of music!
Mr. Cross is a 5 time Grammy award winning & 1 time Academy award winning legend.
According to an Interview with Cross, the line came from an unfinished song by Carol Sager and Peter Allen.
@@rebapuck5061 I guess we will never really know
Well, Chris Cross knows. Correction, Carole Bayer
@@rebapuck5061 Like I said, I heard this from a Chris Cross interview.
I feel like I'm living in NYC in the eighties again.😭
When it was back on the rise. Hope you weren't there in the mid-70s...
@@StarryStarryNocturne 1980 - 1987
Been checking out your channel here and there for about a month.
This vid made me smile so much. The fact that you still posted it after you figured it out and put yourself out there like that....well, it made me hit the "subscribe" button.
Thanks for making my day!
The mix up of the two Arthurs... 😂🤣
Such a great song. Christopher's voice is incredible, I've always loved hearing it!
WOW! I'm actually 2nd here? WOW!
I've been waiting for this review. Can't wait to see your response.
Get well brother Chris!
The sax. The sound of the late 70's early 80's
This is one of those songs that stays playing in your head long after it is done.
That's Classic! Watch the movie "Arthur" from 1981 starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli. It's a funny comedy with a good story about love and Arthur having to make a choice in the predicament he finds himself in.
This is hilarious, I bet Dudley Moore is up in heaven laughing his arse off
Christopher Cross’s music is so iconic and genius. and this is from somebody who’s only just begun to take proper notice. LOVE IT, and by the way, great reviews. Keep up the good work.
Arthur is the movie I've seen the most at a movie theatre, saw it 20+ times. One of my favourite movies of all time.
ROFLMBO!!!! Bruh...Not Arthur the Aardvark! Arthur the MOVIE starring Dudley Moore!
But this song...One day, when I visit New York City for the first time, it will be with my lady during a full moon...and this song will be playing!
Lmao Man I only seen Russell Brand author and I wasn’t paying that much attention to it to be honest
Whit! Arthur an aardvark???
@@KatieRoss72 LOL! I know! Yes, the cartoon Arthur is supposed to be an aardvark.
Hahahahaha Thank you. I needed that chuckle. 🤗
@@jamelakajamal It's all good! Again, you should have a television show. I can see you interviewing these artists. You're the best in the business.
I love the fact that you shared this with us despite your mistake - if we can't laugh at ourselves we're in trouble! (aaaaand you threw in a Ric Flair "Wooo!")
Jamal I had a best friend years ago that I was in the Martial Arts with. Back in 1982 he asked me to learn this as I was starting out my career as a musician. I haven't played it in years but can still remember the notes in my head. You brought back to HS days with this reaction.
Christopher Cross has so many great songs! 💓💓
